Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Word to the Leader
Yoriichi Tsugikuni was momentarily stunned.
The Demon Slayer Corps—his former home.
But because he failed to kill Muzan, and because his own brother had turned into a demon, he was eventually banished from the organization.
From then on, he embarked on his solitary journey to hunt demons.
Tamayo, aware of Yoriichi's exile, explained,
"The Ubuyashiki Clan and I have some history. The poisons I developed have been a great help to the Demon Slayer Corps. Some weaker demons can be killed outright with Wisteria Poison, significantly reducing the casualties among Demon Slayers."
She paused before continuing,
"The Ubuyashiki Clan also provides me with research equipment. Those devices are currently in the Demon Slayer Corps' possession. Occasionally, when they capture powerful demons, I conduct studies on them."
The Ubuyashiki Clan provided funding, manpower, and resources.
In return, Tamayo continued her research.
No matter the era, nothing can be accomplished without money.
And Tamayo's research required a lot of it.
Her relationship with the Demon Slayer Corps was a collaboration.
Now that Yoriichi was determined to kill Muzan, Tamayo wouldn't miss this chance.
She planned to bring her best research equipment—after all, this was Muzan's actual blood.
By analyzing it, she might finally create a cure to turn demons back into humans.
Besides, who knew if Muzan's blood would decay or vanish over time?
Tamayo had already made all the necessary preliminary preparations.
This was the meticulous attitude every researcher should have.
Yoriichi's gaze grew unreadable, as if old memories were resurfacing.
"Alright. When do we leave?"
Seeing his agreement, Tamayo immediately began making arrangements.
She walked over to a window and pushed it open.
A black crow soared through the sky.
This was the messenger crow assigned to every Demon Slayer.
"Caw! Caw!"
The crow descended gracefully, perching on Tamayo's windowsill.
Yoriichi recognized it instantly.
The Demon Slayer Corps' crows were used for delivering missions and messages.
Tamayo gently stroked the bird's feathers.
"Deliver this message to the Master: I will be bringing the first Breath Style swordsman to meet him, along with critical intelligence on Muzan..."
"Caw! Caw!"
The crow nodded, spread its wings, and soared into the sky—heading straight toward the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni had not returned to the Demon Slayer Corps for nearly 60 years.
He knew that his brother had killed the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, nearly wiping out the entire organization.
Although Yoriichi never spoke about it, he had long shouldered all the blame.
After barely surviving total annihilation, the Ubuyashiki Clan had rebuilt the Demon Slayer Corps—but this time, they hid themselves even more carefully.
Their headquarters was now surrounded by wisteria flowers, making it nearly impossible for ordinary demons to enter.
Even Tamayo herself had to give advance notice before visiting.
"Yoriichi-san, if you're not in a hurry, you can stay here for a few days. I believe the Master will reply soon," Tamayo said gently.
Hearing this, Yoriichi was reminded of his time living in the Kamado family's home.
"Thank you."
Tamayo then turned to Ren Asakura.
"This gentleman is also welcome to stay here."
Ren narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Then… can I go out and explore for a bit?"
Yoriichi's heart suddenly tightened.
But Ren waved his hand casually.
"Relax, Yoriichi-san. You trust me, right? I'm not the type to cause trouble. Besides, I'm not some murder-obsessed lunatic."
Lu Mingfei, who had been quietly watching, curled his lips and muttered,
"I don't believe that."
Ren smiled.
"Lu Mingfei, it seems like you still haven't suffered enough. Do you need me to help with that?"
Lu Mingfei suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
"I was wrong! How could someone as sunny, cheerful, righteous, noble, charming, and universally adored as our group leader possibly do anything bad?"
This wasn't cowardice—this was adaptability.
Lu Mingfei prided himself on being a man who knew when to bend and when to stand tall.
Ren chuckled and didn't bother arguing with the smooth-talking Mingfei.
In truth, once you got to know him, you'd realize Lu Mingfei was just a kid who lacked love and affection.
That was why he constantly played the fool, never showing his cool or capable side.
It was as if pretending to be weak was a way to protect himself.
Meanwhile, Tamayo watched Ren with a puzzled expression.
This seemingly ordinary young man was talking to thin air.
Did he have some kind of mental illness?
As someone with medical knowledge, Tamayo knew that some people were born with neurological disorders that made them see things that weren't real and occasionally act delusional.
This condition was commonly referred to as hysteria.
As a group member, Yoriichi Tsugikuni naturally saw the other members' projections, so he didn't think there was anything strange about Ren Asakura.
But Tamayo wasn't a member.
Since Ren was Yoriichi's friend, she didn't want to be too blunt about it. Instead, she said gently,
"Ren Asakura-san, you might be overworked. If your mind is too tense, you need to rest."
Ren looked confused at first, but after a moment, he realized what was happening and chuckled.
"Ah… I see. Sorry for making you worry. Don't worry, my mind is fine—but you're right, I could use some rest."
Tamayo remained silent for a few seconds before choosing not to say anything more.
---
Time always slips away when you least notice.
The bright sun bathed the earth in golden light.
It was springtime—flowers bloomed, and the air was filled with warmth.
Since Tamayo was a demon, she couldn't be exposed to sunlight. Naturally, she spent her days sleeping indoors.
Meanwhile, on the steps outside her home, two people sat under the sun.
A freshly brewed pot of tea sat beside them.
Yoriichi took a small sip, quietly watching the hustling townspeople.
Sometimes, just pausing to observe was enough to see that—even in a world as dangerous as this—people never truly stopped moving forward.
"This place is a rare haven of peace," Yoriichi said softly.
Ren Asakura nodded.
"In an era where villages constantly engage in violent conflicts, a peaceful town like this is truly hard to come by."
Basking in the sunlight, drinking warm tea—sometimes, happiness was really that simple.
And contrast made happiness even sweeter.
For example…
Just a few meters away, Lu Mingfei was trembling, drenched in sweat, struggling to hold a horse stance.
He looked like he was about to cry.
He shouldn't have listened to the group leader's nonsense and agreed to come here.
That's right—Lu Mingfei had also arrived in the Demon Slayer world.
Since Shilan High School was on break in his world, and playing StarCraft had lost its thrill thanks to the group's cheats, he figured—why not?
So Ren Asakura convinced him to travel here, promising Yoriichi would teach him swordsmanship and breathing techniques.
At first, Lu Mingfei hesitated.
But the power of Sun Breathing was just too tempting to ignore.
So, he crossed over.
And now… he was trapped in Ren Asakura's grasp.
There was no escaping.
He never expected the group leader to hold such a grudge.
True to his word, Yoriichi generously taught him everything he knew about Sun Breathing.
But there was a problem—Lu Mingfei had zero talent.
His fundamentals were beyond awful.
The truth was—this unlucky otaku's physical condition was worse than the average person.
So instead of breathing training, his regimen was changed to basic physical conditioning.
And just for fun, Ren Asakura decided to add a little something extra.
He increased gravity by 1.5 times.
