Chapter 41: Pt. 7 [Entangled Night 1]: 40: Danger Is Knocking
"Are they all in?"
"Yes, boss. The container is full, and our men are waiting for your command."
"Great. Burn them with acid."
"Yes, Boss."
"Boss, are you sure? There is some innocent blood among them."
"Innocent? None of them is when they tried killing my sister…unless…you want to join them?"
"I'm sorry, Boss. I'm not going to question you again."
"Good, because if not, I hate to kill my men with my own hands. Clean this mess, and afterward, dispose of it. Make sure no one dares to step on us again, or else...you don't want to know what I can do."
"Yes, boss."
All men in black suits surrounding the container began doing what they were told to and filled the container with acid. Inside the container, all captive people started squirming and screaming in agony as the acid poured heavily on their heads. Their agony was music in the mysterious, ruthless man's ears as he watched amusingly as the container turned into a sea of blood.
"My dear sister, it's getting close," the mysterious man whispered sinisterly. "Be ready."

When darkness filled her sight, she began relying on her senses. By feeling the flow of the water against her feet, she followed where it was leading. Without direction or light, she found herself surrounded by nature: broken logs, wet mosses, cold mist, and cheeping crickets. However, a foul scent stung her nostrils, making her stomach flip. She was disgusted, trembling, and her knees gave in. She fell on her feet where the water started materializing into blood, making her gasp. Everything went clearer. She was surrounded by bloody nature.
"Where am I?" Frightened, Skylar's shaky voice wondered, standing in a bloody sea.
Trapped inside the bloody canvas, a white tree isolated from everything around her. Feeling a sense of salvation, she rushed to the untainted white tree. However, by approaching it, she found herself falling back into darkness and a coffin where she kissed a reflection of herself, awakening a monster.
"GO AWAY!!!" Skylar screamed at the top of her lungs, squirming as she tried to get away from the monster, but it kept following her; every turn she made, the monster was there, making her beg. "Please, please, wake me up."
Sadly, she couldn't. Skylar ran in a circle inside her dream, avoiding the monster who looked like her. She was terrified, like a child hoping to be saved from drowning, which made her remember something she had forgotten.
"What the fuck am I doing? This is not me. I'm more capable than running away." Slowing down, Skylar noticed something, making her mind play everything she went through like a fast-forward flashing movie. She remembered being a top elite soldier, a leader, a killer, and now, a boss, making her more determined to break free from her dream state. "I've seen more frightening and gruesome things before, and this…this is nothing."
With burning determination, Skylar was no longer going in circles; something changed in her. She became more lethal and dangerous, matching the monster that pursued her. She confronted it as if confronting the dark aspect of herself. The beast resembled her perfectly, apart from the glowing red eyes—her savage side. However, when locking eyes with a beast, something within her began to unravel. She felt her skin slowly being stripped away, her body trembled, and the heat spread as her blood rushed through her veins, causing her heart to race.
"Who are you? Speak, or I'll end you." Skylar spat with determination and firmness, hiding the fear and puzzlement in her mind, and faced her monster reflection.
"You can't end me, as I am you."
"What are you talking about?" Puzzled, Skylar wondered in confusion.
"We're both faces of the same coin."
"I don't understand…" Skylar softly stuttered, but she knew what it meant. She was not ready or unsure of what she would become once she admitted it.
"I know you understand it already, but in due time, it will be clear. Just remember one thing: love your husband."
Skylar remained speechless, unable to move, as she pondered the sudden reoccurrence of a dream that seemed linked to her meeting with a myth and an added mystery, leaving her unsure if it was still a dream or reality. However, when she caught sight of her monstrous reflection, she froze at the sensation of cold lips pressing against hers. Initially, she resisted and reacted violently, but the kiss began to radiate warmth, causing her body to respond. She was melting, and the thought of Vincencio kissing her woke her up.
"H-hubby…" Skylar stuttered, panting between their kiss, making Vincenzo pull away, looking worried.
"I'm glad you're awake," Vincencio panted, his shoulders slumping down in relief.
"What happened?" she wondered, forgetting the dream she just had since Vincencio's swollen face welcomed her. She immediately examined his face, more worried than about what happened to her. "Why is your face red? Did somebody slap you?"
Amused, Vincencio pulled his wife into his arms before kissing her temple dearly. However, Skylar was worried and insisted on knowing what Vincencio was thinking.
"Hubby, tell me. I'll break them apart." Skylar demanded protectively, making him chuckle.
"Then can you break yourself?" Vincencio teasingly responded, making her confused.
"What do you mean? I did that?" Frowning, she asked, not believing she could turn his face like a tomato.
"Yes, you did. First, you were having a nightmare and kept shouting, making me rush from the kitchen." He answered before proceeding. "Second, you went violent when I tried to wake you. You either slapped or punched me; I was even getting ready for a kick. Luckily, it didn't come. Then I kissed you to wake you up. Seriously, it was not easy since you slapped me again until I felt your body give in."
"Oh my! I'm sorry, hubby." With a gentle caress, Skylar apologized sincerely and rained his face with affectionate kisses.
"It's fine as long as you're here, awake and loving me." He smiled with assurance and kissed her hands before wondering, "But do you want to share what you are about?"
"It's not bad, but it's disgusting and confusing." She sighed, trying to recall her dream, making her shiver in disgust and wonder.
"Disgusting? Confusing? How?" He curiously wondered as he wiped her sweat and a slight tear on her face.
"Blood. Everything filled with blood, and I fell on the coffin kissing myself, then later, I'm being chased by myself." She replied with crooked brows before sighing, "I don't get it."
"You love yourself too much," Vincencio teased nonchalantly, making Skylar frown.
"HUBBY!" Skylar frowned and slapped his arms, making him giggle. "It's not funny."
"What? You said you kissed yourself and were chased by yourself." He defended teasingly, which had a point. Skylar glared.
"Very funny," she said dismissively, making him giggle, and he pulled her into his arms, securing her.
"Okay, fine, kidding aside, maybe it has something to do with your past life or maybe it's about your secret that you can't share with me yet." With sincerity, Vincencio gently guessed, making Skylar consider them.
"You think so?" she asked for assurance.
"And if we put it that way, I could tell it's heavy since you're dreaming them now." He answered with a nod before thinking carefully. "Also, by thinking the bloody scenery…wifey, did you kill somebody?"
"What made you think that?" Skylar asked coldly, narrowing her eyes curiously.
"Well, blood and coffin." He shrugged his shoulders before teasingly reacting in surprise. "Oh my!"
"W-what?" She panicked, thinking he might realize who she truly was, making Vincencio look at her deeply. However, seeing how Vincencio smirked, Skylar knew what he would say next.
"I married a killer." He teased, making her frown but smile.
"If you only knew the truth, you wouldn't joke about it," Skylar thought, but there was a tug in her chest, a worry, making her ask. "Silly. But Hubby, if you married a killer, what are you going to do? Would you call the police?"
"Hm, if I'm a sane person, I would say yes, but since I'm not, so, it's a no." Without hesitation, Vincencio answered firmly, flashing his charming smile at her. Skylar arched her brow, making him state his reason. "I'd rather be your police and lock you up in here."
"That sounds interesting," she thought before amusingly guessing. "Like a house arrest?"
"Correction, it's a hubby arrest." With a wink, he teasingly responded, catching Skylar off guard. She hadn't thought of having an adorable husband with stupid quirks, but she couldn't care less—she loves him to the fullest.
"Why are you still adorable when you're being stupid?" Skylar teased, cupping his face gently.
"You just love my weird morning antics." Vincencio confidently winked, making Skylar shake her head while smiling.
"Indeed I do," she agreed and captured his lips for a passionate kiss before pulling away. "And speaking of morning, what's for breakfast?"
"SHIT! MY FRIED RICE!" Vincencio snapped and ran out of the bedroom, making Skylar laugh wholeheartedly.
"Cute," Skylar mumbled sweetly before lying down when the door opened again.
"Wifey, don't go back to sleep. Med reminded me about your meeting today." Vincencio peeked cutely through the door, giving her reminders before running to the kitchen.
"Oh, God. Why did you bless me with a husband like him when my hands were filled with blood?" Skylar sighed in defeat, praying in wonder before getting up to freshen up herself.

The couple's life within the company still moved the same. Vincencio remained focused on his department, while Skylar walked like a storm in her company, dealing with each department's project updates. Although it was a demanding task, it was part of her role as CEO, and she was known for workaholic tendencies until it was time for her meeting with Fredric Rusco in her office.
"I'm sorry if I made you wait." Skylar politely apologized as soon as she entered.
"I didn't wait that long, Skylar. I know how it feels," Fredric said with an understanding smile.
"Alright, what brings you here, Mr. Rusco?" She asked as she sat comfortably across the couch.
"Fredric. Call me Fredric…" He insisted and added, "…and I'm here to check on the project's update, which your husband already did."
"So?" she wondered, making Fredric stare at her for a few seconds before sighing and making Skylar ask. "Is there any problem with the project or something else?"
"Oh, there's nothing wrong with the project, but I came here for something personal..." Fredric said, trailing off, trying to figure out the right word to say. "… I don't know how to say this, but it's about my wife."
"Ah, Vincencio mentioned it to me before." Skylar finally understood what he was trying to say and guessed it. "Is it about the surprise you're planning?"
"Yeah, I hope you can help me too." His face lightened, hoping that Skylar would help him too.
"Sure, how can I help?" she wondered genuinely.

The couple resolved the private request, which lasted nearly three hours before their shifts finished, and then headed home together. On the ride, Skylar instantly felt the desire to be a clingy wife, wrapping her arms around Vincencio and snuggling at the crook of his neck, familiarizing herself with his natural, refreshing aftershave scent. It was shocking because it was an uncommon gesture from Skylar, which Vincencio wanted to savor, but his phone played the song Nightmare by Ravenscode. Someone was calling him, and he sighed.
"You can answer that," Skylar softly said, but Vincencio shook his head until the call stopped.
"Neh, I don't want to be disturbed when you're being clingy like this." Vincencio kissed her temple.
Skylar didn't pry any further and arrived home. As Vincencio continued with his daily routine at home, Skylar took care of several men's chores, such as collecting firewood for the fireplace, replacing the light at the back door, and checking plumbing after Vincencio noticed a clog in the sink. When she was done, she cleaned up, and a notification popped up.
Text Message:
Beta Din: Delta has sent the coordinates of the next target and says it's around the port, spying something for someone.
"Hm, that's new. Marlo won't dare spy on something or someone unless someone with authority does. Or if not a powerful one, a mafia perhaps." Skylar muttered with slyness flickering in her eyes, interested in what might unfold behind the darkness. "Maybe he is on the move again."

Alpha Lar: Danger is knocking. I'll check it soon. Just send me the detailed coordinates and all the details.
Beta Din: Affirmative.
They were enjoying each other's company while having a movie marathon. However, in the middle of the second part of The Hunger Games, Skylar notices Vincencio's sudden restlessness.
"Hubby, spill it." Skylar firmly told him, making him sigh.
