Chapter 39: Pt.6: 38: Their Untold Side
"I did. I told her everything, including how we met and became friends before we began our official relationship. I was over the moon when Skylar accepted and supported me; our relationship was lovely and the happiest moment of my life despite the ups and downs, and we managed to pull through. However, I could not take the worries that began to overwhelm me every time she came home terribly hurt." He sighed heavily and continued, "You see, my ex was exceptional, and I am proud of her. Unfortunately, I made a mistake. I should have expressed my genuine concern thoroughly and requested her to reinstate herself to the camp. Instead, I told her to give up what she loves."
"We both made the same mistakes, and we should learn from them so our next relationship doesn't end up like ours did," Skylar thought sincerely before teasing him. "Yeah, if she was your biggest supporter, you should not tell her that."
"Yeah, I know that. I learned it the hard way." He chuckled softly before continuing with a side story that Skylar hadn't heard before. "So, ever since then, we sometimes argue, and Monica entered the picture when I got drunk and needed a drinking buddy. Coincidentally, she was going through something too, and we ended up sleeping together again."
"You cheated on her," Skylar said, her tone laced with slight annoyance, causing Gregory to chuckle sadly.
Gregory and Monica cheated and betrayed Skylar's trust and love for them. However, she was past all of it. She moved on, and learning this side of the story may help Skylar understand how to play her game when Monica's debt comes due.
"I know, and it's supposed to be just that, but you see, Monica wasn't the type of woman who seeks attention or anyone whenever she breaks. Yes, she could flirt, but I'm the only one who touches her intimately, and due to my frustration and her sadness, we became friends with benefits. We used each other to escape the pain, but it changed when she lightened up again." Gregory continued telling his story with Monica, making Skylar curious.
"Lightened up? There's someone important to her that I didn't know?" she carefully thought before wondering, "What do you mean?"
"There's someone Monica admires a lot at work. I know it by how lively she was whenever she talked about her interaction with that person, and I saw how cute she could be when she was in love. She was like a teenager who didn't care what people might say about her love. I am grateful. There was no sex during those moments until they met, Monica and my ex." He answered and chuckled, remembering how adorable his wife could be, before adding, "They became friends instantly, but I'm Monica's buddy, and I knew when something was off in her."
"Off? Are you telling me she was sad again?" Skylar curiously guessed, but Gregory shook his head.
"Not sad but troubled," Gregory answered, intriguing Skylar before he continued. "She has been bothered by something, which she could not decide whether to seek help or fight it alone. And knowing her, Monica never speaks her mind and feelings. She bottled them up until she could no longer feel anything, and her light started to dim, and it instantly vanished when my ex died."
"That's interesting," Skylar thought.
"She's not a whore, but she was forced to be." He sadly added as his tears fell from his eyes, making Skylar curious.
"What do you mean by that?" She wondered.
"Honestly, I don't know or still don't understand when she asked me something the day we buried my ex." He trailed off, trying to control his aching heart.
"What did she ask, if I may ask?" she carefully asked.
"'Can you see me in my darkness?' That's what she asked me. I don't know what she was referring to, but I answered her yes, but her smile didn't reach her eyes like it used to. I know she was carrying a much heavier burden than I first met her until I heard from her colleagues the reason why she retired from her work." He answered, making his tears fall more, and gulped before continuing, "It happened two years after our marriage, but out of the blue, she retired, and I learned that she was gang-raped and had a miscarriage. I was devastated by the news but I didn't slap her with it. She had been through a lot, and I can't lose hope of bringing back a tiny life in her. Although, I knew it was impossible."
"Meaning?" she carefully asked, patting his back.
"Skylar, how can I bring it back if I'm not the cause of her light?" He asked with a broken voice, making Skylar feel it.
Skylar might be carrying a vengeful soul, but she still knew how to care, and she pitied him—them—but the great pain they engraved in her mind, heart, and body was something she could not easily forgive, particularly Monica. And Gregory wouldn't know what his wife did to her—she had a bigger role in that play, and it will be due soon.
"Don't tell me…" she thought before she curiously guessed. "You're keeping this marriage to watch over her?"
"Sky, I know it's hopeless, but Monica needs somebody even though I couldn't be the person who could bring her light again. However, she needs someone who'll stay with her. I don't care if our marriage falls apart; I don't want to leave her when I know she needs someone to remind her about life." He responded honestly, making Skylar sigh.
"Gregory, you're still the man I fell in love with. You still had the kind heart I loved about you. Sadly, we weren't for each other." Skylar thought, but it's all in the past. Then she commented. "They were right. You're too kind to her."
"I love her after my ex, and I know she does too." He answered sadly before adding with a sad smile, "But what's happening to our marriage? I think it is my karma when I cheated on my ex. I'm facing the consequences now through Monica."
"Well, perhaps, but aren't you going to fight for your marriage and remind her who you are to her?" She carefully wondered, thinking deeply about what pushed Monica to change drastically. "Being gang-raped or having a miscarriage won't push you to harm others badly and ruin their lives or kill them, so what truly pushes you deeper than you already were?"
"It's not that I'm giving up, Skylar; I'm just watching her to give me a reason to fight for her." Gregory smiled hopefully, but Skylar's eyes caught something around the restaurant, making her fume up.
"Give her then because I'm going to break her if she keeps touching what's mine." She spat with venom, which alarmed Gregory.
"What are you talking about?" He got confused.
"I heard her untold side, but it is not an excuse for touching what belongs to me." She thought madly before she responded to Gregory and stormed quickly to where her husband was. "Watch me, and you'll know."

Skylar had a strong, unpleasant taste on her tongue, filling her with annoyance at what she saw. And by the means of everything, she saw Vincencio finish talking with the chef regarding the food; when he turned, he ran into Mrs. Sterling, who seemed to be waiting for him to turn. With reflexes, Vincencio quickly caught her arms, preventing her from falling. Monica intended to be touched by him, and Skylar saw it, making her furious.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there. Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah, thanks, and…you're buff."
"Excuse me?"
"This woman will eat herself sooner than I planned," Skylar thought madly as she heard their exchange as she got close to their area. "Don't worry, Hubby; I'll rescue you from that vermin."
"I said you work out because your arms felt like you've been lifting."
"Oh, I've been carrying my wife."
"Lucky her."
"We're both lucky."
"I can see that, but I can be better. Perhaps in bed."
Vincencio shivered in disgust and was about to refute when he sensed danger approaching, and, like on cue, Skylar appeared in her glorious madness.
"I heard that bitch." Skylar spat, yanking Monica harshly away from her husband. Vincencio stepped aside, letting his wife save him from a flirtatious woman eyeing him lustfully.
"I intend to," Monica challenged, not realizing Gregory was standing behind her.
"I almost believe what Gregory told me about her, but because of this...I changed my mind. I still hate her." Skylar thought madly before threatening Monica as she stood firmly, protectively in front of her husband. "Don't try me, or you won't see another day,"
"Oh, really? Don't threaten me with empty words," Monica challenged, but there was curiosity in her eyes that didn't escape from Skylar.
"I don't threaten with emptiness. I held at the end of my bargain, and you're not an exemption." Skylar spat with venom, stepping forward, but Monica smirked, taking the challenge more.
"Wifey…" Vincencio tried to calm her rage, although he knew it wouldn't work when it came to protecting him.
"Don't wifey me whenever I'm being protective of you," Skylar warned him without looking since her eyes burned on Monica.
Vincencio might be internally amused, but sensing the fire in Skylar, he knew Skylar wasn't easily tamed. With one intense look from his wife, Vincencio was speechless again and let his wife be his overly protectively possessive wife again. Then, there it goes again—their verbal catfight.
"Vincencio, don't let her control you." Monica mocked, aiming indirectly at Skylar. Vincencio was about to speak when Skylar held his chest.
"Hubby, let me grill her," Skylar smirked grimly, and Vincencio didn't interfere, but she saw Gregory behind her, making her mock their marriage. "I pity Gregory for marrying an undeserving woman,"
"Don't involve him here," With a high pitch, Monica refuted defensively. She loved Gregory, but her darkness kept her blinded and drowned; she couldn't stop it. She couldn't.
"You loved him, but you're yearning for someone who won't be coming back for you anymore." Skylar thought she could see everything that Monica had been hiding for years before refuting it possessively. "Then don't touch what doesn't belong to you,"
"I'll get whatever I set my eyes on," Monica spat, not realizing she was hurting someone who loved her unconditionally.
"Is that so…" Skylar grimly challenged, making Monica jolt and watch Skylar step closer to her. "It's funny, but be warned…"
The air suddenly shifted into a very dangerous coldness as soon as Skylar began making steps. It was suffocating coldness, and with each step she created, Monica unexpectedly felt overwhelmed, feeling a familiar vibe from Skylar. It was not only Skylar's grimness that she was familiar with, but the fearlessness, the furiousness, and the rage were hotter than a sun, making Monica's knees weaken. She was not cowering in fear but in familiarity that never failed to melt her when Skylar's gaze burned her soul. She fell defeated on the chair behind her, playing a winning smirk on Skylar's lips before leaning.
"I'm not going to say this twice, but I am warning you, my dear. Dare to touch my husband, and I won't hesitate to be bloody ruthless to you or anyone dear to you. Dare to watch or look at him, and I'll ensure your eyes will be drilled out, ensuring there will be no light in sight. Lastly, daring to get my husband away from me, rest assured, you'll fall into more madness than you already were." Deeper and colder, Skylar spoke her warning, making Monica cower deeply before adding sinisterly, "Trust me, if anyone falls into my list, there's no turning back. Death will soon arrive, my dear; it could start with him. So, choose wisely on crossing me, Mrs. Sterling, before you lose everything keeping you sane."
Upon hearing her warning, Monica's eyes widened and her head spun quickly, only to see how sad and painful Gregory's smile was. She had never encountered that expression before, leaving her speechless as if struck by lightning. At that moment, she realized something she had never thought would affect her so much. She hurts the remaining person who continues standing beside her despite her fall.
"Greg, I…" Monica whispered but could not finish what she was about to say. Yet, Skylar heard vulnerability in them, but when she saw how quickly Monica masked it, she finally clarified something.
"I won't be a fool anymore, but I love what I learned about your darkness. This is going to be our fun game," Skylar cunningly thought before she coldly taunted Monica. "So, what do you say?"
