Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Chance Encounter

The hospital staff gathered cheerfully around a table.

Besides Chai Chen, only Ye Yan had been to Jiua before.

The first time Fu Xingzhou took her here, it was to the presidential suite on the top floor.

To this day, she still remembered his dominating and assertive demeanor, like a starving man who had long awaited his meal, devouring it ravenously and ruthlessly.

His physique, appearance, and skills were undoubtedly the best, but for Ye Yan, they felt like severe punishments.

She endured the discomfort in her stomach and the pain in her body, repeatedly surrendering to his capricious love-making, completely sinking into his insatiable desires.

That day felt exceptionally long, with heavy rain outside and springtime beauty indoors.

He held her from behind and kissed her, like the most intimate of lovers.

After that wild night, whenever Fu Xingzhou took her to a hotel, she firmly refused, even though it angered and displeased him.

Before long, Fu Xingzhou bought the current duplex where one could see the nearby Ruins of St. Paul and the white Dongwangyang Lighthouse from the window.

It was also very close to the hospital, just a fifteen-minute drive.

But when he was not around, Ye Yan still lived in her own small apartment, bought with her mortgage.

In the duplex, she was only his tool for release, and she preferred the freedom of her own space.

"Miss Ye, please watch your step."

The sudden voice pulled Ye Yan back to her thoughts; it was the manager here speaking to her.

Fu Xingzhou had taken her here to dine a few times, and the lobby manager had recognized her as soon as she walked in.

Fu Xingzhou had brought countless women here for meals, and it was tough for the manager to remember all these faces.

Ye Yan said nothing, pretending not to recognize him.

They were a large crowd, and nobody noticed anything amiss.

"Dr. Chai, can we order anything?" Ye Liangping from the radiology department lifted the menu, his eyes hopeful behind his black-rimmed glasses.

Chai Chen poured himself a glass of water, "The director said to order whatever."

There was a cheer, and Ye Liangping ordered shark fin with three shreds, the price of one dish amounting to his monthly food allowance.

The menu was passed around among everyone and finally reached Ye Yan.

"Dr. Ye, why don't you pick something?" Xie Yang nudged her with the menu, "The director said we can order anything."

Ye Yan flipped through the menu quickly, "Just bread and curry chicken."

Everyone chuckled and teased, "Is Dr. Ye trying to save money for the Qin Family by choosing the cheapest?"

Ye Yan merely smiled in response, while Chai Chen quietly observed her from the corner of his eye.

She was dressed in a khaki loose sweater over a white blouse today, which made her skin appear even whiter and more fragile.

She seldom smiled, and even her smiles were as mild as a gentle breeze, cool like a lotus.

The dishes started arriving in the private room one after another.

There was a rule in the hospital that unless on leave, drinking alcohol was not allowed; although everyone was drinking soft drinks, the atmosphere remained joyful.

During the meal, Meng Tian sent several voice messages.

Ye Yan initially wanted to convert them to text, but, triggered by something, she burst out in the Cantonese dialect of Ao City, making it sound like an alien language to the system.

The system reported that it could not continue.

Ye Yan picked up her phone and went to the hallway, finding a relatively quiet corner.

As she passed one of the private rooms, a waiter was serving dishes.

In the spacious room sat only three people, one of them facing the door; the dim lights seemed to favor his noble features.

He was leisurely reclining in his seat, his long-fingered left hand swirling a glass of red wine, while his right hand held a half-burnt cigarette.

He slightly lowered his head, adopting a listening posture.

Sitting next to him was a woman in a cheongsam, not exceptionally beautiful but carrying herself with the refined air of ancient noblewomen.

Ye Yan recognized Nangong Yan; she was a well-known female painter from Ao City, especially adept at traditional Chinese painting. Her works were highly favored in high society, and one of her paintings sold for the astounding price of five million.

It seemed the smoke had choked Nangong Yan, and the man beside her immediately extinguished his cigarette.

When he lifted his head, his gaze collided with that of someone outside the door.

His dark eyes were deep, his expression a playful non-smile.

Ye Yan quickly averted her gaze, feigning nonchalance as she continued to look down at her phone.

Upon reaching a quiet place, Ye Yan finally made out what Meng Tian was saying.

Pei Ye had gotten engaged to the daughter of the vice president and even sent Meng Tian a "kind" invitation. On the phone, Meng Tian cursed Pei Ye's ancestors for eighteen generations before deciding to attend the engagement party.

Ye Yan advised her not to act rashly out of spite, but she knew Meng Tian's temper; it wasn't likely to settle without a dramatic scene.

"Beautiful lady, hello," a sleazy voice came from behind Ye Yan just after she had replied to a message.

Xiong Wenbai had been watching her for a long time, his eyes unabashedly revealing his inner desires.

"Can we have a drink together?" Xiong Wenbai offered, but his tone brooked no refusal.

Ye Yan glanced nearby, noticing two bodyguards watching intently from a distance; they were likely his.

"Sorry, that's not convenient." Without another look at Xiong Wenbai, she put away her phone and headed to her private room. "Miss, don't rush—my name is Xiong Wenbai, let's be friends." Xiong Wenbai stepped in front of her, blocking her path.

His corpulent body filled the corridor, resembling a roadblock.

Xiong Wenbai had seen countless women, but never one as aloof, beautiful, and tasteful as her.

There were many beautiful women, but it was their unique aura that truly bewitched him.

"Let's be friends—I won't shortchange you. Whatever jewelry, handbags you want, just pick. Whatever you like, I'll gift it to you," Xiong Wenbai knew what would capture a woman's heart—a single handbag could cure all a woman's woes.

Ye Yan didn't want to waste words with him and tried to leave.

Xiong Wenbai's expression darkened, his voice turning icy: "Bitch, don't be ungrateful. Mr. Xiong is gracing you with his presence. You better recognize your place."

The two nearby bodyguards moved closer, fixating on her threateningly.

At that moment, the door of a nearby private room suddenly opened, and four or five people stepped out.

One of them noticed Xiong Wenbai and greeted him: "President Xiong is here too."

Seizing the moment Xiong Wenbai conversed with the man, Ye Yan quickly retreated to her own private room. Chai Chen was about to leave to look for her but said nothing when he saw her return, "Come on, everyone, let's toast to Dr. Ye."

Today's meal was indeed thanks to Ye Yan.

In the luxurious room, a bodyguard entered and whispered a few words into Fu Xingzhou's ear.

Sitting next to him, Nangong Yan saw his face darken noticeably, even emitting a chillingly sinister air.

Across from Nangong Yan, Sister Fang, her agent, seeing her about to speak, quickly shook her head and gave her a warning look.

Those familiar with Fu Xingzhou knew his temper was unpredictable and hard to please.

One second he could be charmingly warm, the next he could be sending you to meet King Yan.

So, at times like this, the wisest choice was to stay silent, or better yet, act blind.

Fu Xingzhou set down his wine glass, stood up with his tall frame, and despite the chilling aura, his face carried a perfectly polite demeanor, "Excuse me, I need to go toast someone."

Sister Fang, startled, wondered if some high-profile figure had arrived in Jiua, necessitating a toast from someone as esteemed as Fu Xingzhou.

"Do you need me to accompany you?" Nangong couldn't hold back.

As the words fell, Fu Xingzhou suddenly gave her a cool glance, devoid of emotion, yet enough to silence Nangong like a sudden frost.
