Chapter 2: First Training session.
I wipe the sleep out of my eyes as my alarm went off on my phone.
'I stayed up way to late flying last night.'
I swung my feet around and touched the ground as dad walked in, in his suit. "Puts some pants on, and let's get into the sky, my boy."
I stood up and waved my hand up my body and clothes appeared.
Noland: "That's fancy."
I yawned: "Yeah. I practiced a bit last night... you ready?" - "You look like you need coffee first."
I almost fell over just standing. "Maybe."
.
Far in the sky.
Noland: "It's kinda like how you walk, and you don't think about balancing anymore, but when you were a baby. You did. You're a baby flyer right now. You have to focus on staying upright, focused on going the direction you want to go. Do you got it?"
I started to randomly float. "Uh? Kinda. But." - "You don't. Okay... follow me."
He took off and after a few tries I managed to follow.
Noland: "You can wear yourself out flying. Moving fast is like tensing a muscle. You're better off if you relax that muscle from time to time, use the momentum you are building to carry you forward."
'Okay. So do a burst of speed like sprinting and let the momentum take me.'
I did a quick burst of speed and tried to relax but slightly failed.
Dad caught up and continued. "You are not going to want to fall so you're gonna have trouble relaxing. It's like peeing your pants on purpose."
"What? Peeing my pants?" - "Yeah, peeing your pants on purpose. you know, you spend your whole life trying not to pee your pants, so letting it go, peeing your pants on purpose, it's next to impossible."
"I have so many questions. And they start with, how do you know that? Have you tried?" - "You are way better at flying then you should be. Late-night practice? Is that why you are so tired?" - "Maybe I'm a natural, and I love how you tried to change the subject. Well, I'm not letting you."
He chuckled. "Land over there."
We started to descend and as I still haven't got the landing part down, I couldn't stop.
I got close to the ground and spun to point my hands and feet to the ground and shot out a huge amount of energy and it mostly broke my landing.
I stumbled out of the crator I made and dad chuckled. "I guess that counts as a landing."
I knocked some dirt off my clothes. "I'm actually getting used to that." - "That's not a good thing... Okay. Try go hit me."
A huge smile formed. "Really?" - "You seem to happy about this." - "This is for you and mom always being gross around me." - "Well okay then. Show me what you got."
I threw a few jabs.
Noland: "Use your whole body." I threw one more and he flew behind me. "You can punch with your arm, but if you punch with your shoulders, your hips, and your legs It'll be much more powerful. I'll take a while to get the hang of it."
"I've been watching videos, but apparently it hasn't done much help." - "No. I can see it. It's helped. But you see with us, we can Really move ourselves through physical space. That's how we fly. So we don't have to pivot on our feet and push off the ground. We can literally push off anything. We can create our own leverage."
I hovered. 'Okay. You can do it.' I flew up to him and threw two more that he dodged.
Noland: "Good. But try it like this."
This words triggered something inside me and I threw up a sheild that he easily shattered then he struck me in the chest.
I stayed in the sky but I was slightly gasping for air.
Noland: "Good reflex's. But if that's going to hold up to any kind of real hit you'll need to strengthen it."
I finally caught my breath and glared at him. "What was that for!" - "Mark. If you really want to do, what I do, you'll have to be prepared for anything." - "But on the first..." I paused as that voice in my head that always seems to know what to do told me to calm down and continue with the training as it'll be worth it.
I centered myself. I lowered to the ground and dad followed.
I closed my eyes and concentrated. Blue tendrils shot out of the ground, wrapping around him. With him confused I gathered all my strength and punched him in the chest."
He moved up slightly and broke the restraints. "Not bad. I didn't feel it. But you took me by surprise. Not bad." - "No more cheap shots old man."
He smiled. "Old man? Okay. You asked for it." The smile vanished and he went for a punch that I was waiting for so I flew backwards out of the way. I might of lost control of my flying for a moment, but I still dodged.
Noland: "Maybe you can do what I do."
.
I walked into the house to see mom on the couch, and I am beyond dirty with a little blood mixed in.
Debbie: "What the hell happened. Why are you so.. is that blood?"
She ran to me and started to check me out.
I pushed her slightly away and with a wave of my hand my clothes are clean and my cuts are gone.
I can effect even living things, but only on a small scale currently.
Debbie: "That's new."
Noland: "It's apparently part of the power set he has that I don't."
I started to walk up the stairs. "Maybe a human-Hybrid is the superior species."
Mom chuckled. "Go take a shower." - "Okay. I'll tell you about the training later."
I looked over at dad expecting a comment on my superior species comment, but he was just standing there with his fist clinched. 'Weird.'
