Moonblood: A Hale Reborn

Chapter 10: Chapter Nine: Building Something Real

🤝 Trust, Finally

The air between them felt different. Not weightless, but not suffocating either. Something had shifted after their long-overdue talk—like cracks that had begun to heal, even if the scars were still visible.

Nova sat on her bed, back propped against the wall, knees drawn up. They sat side by side on Nova's bed, knees brushing, neither one looking directly at the other, but neither pulling away either.

"Okay," Nova said suddenly. "No more pushing you away. But you get one warning, I'm still learning how not to be a disaster."

Hope glanced up, smiling. "You're not a disaster."

Nova smirked. "I'm a walking, talking, hormone-loaded, snark-filled apocalypse, but thanks for the optimism."

Hope closed the notebook and nudged Nova's knee lightly with her own, her voice low but certain. "We figure it out. Together."

Nova looked at her, something soft in her eyes. "Together sounds... nice."

📚 Soulbond 101

"So..." Nova started, biting her lip, "this whole soulbond thing. What exactly does it mean?"

Hope perked up, grabbing her notebook again. "It's still vague, but here's what I know."

She flipped to a page covered in messy scribbles and highlighted passages. "It's a magical bond blessed by nature. Deeper than anything physical or emotional. Two souls linked, not just romantically, but spiritually. It's rare and usually unbreakable."

Nova blinked, a hint of a smirk curling her lips. "Unbreakable? That sounds like a lot—and very permanent. You sure it's not just a magical case of super clinginess?"

"It is," Hope agreed, her voice calm, though her lips quirked with a smirk. "But it's not a prison. It's a connection. Some cultures see it as sacred—like the universe chose two people who belong together. Honestly, kind of romantic in a cosmic, no-escape-from-me way."

Nova looked away, suddenly shy. "So, no pressure or anything."

Hope reached over and gently touched her hand. "There's pressure if we let there be. But for me... it just feels right."

Nova fell silent, then asked quietly, "So what happens if we reject it?"

Hope's voice dropped. "We feel the absence. Like something missing. Like part of you is gone. From what I've found so far, and it's not much, there's no way to reject the bond. It's blessed by nature. If one of us tries to leave, we start to feel it physically. First a pull, then sickness. And if we keep fighting it... it can kill us."

Nova swallowed. "So if I walk away—"

Hope said, her voice lower now, her jaw tightening as her possessiveness bled through. "That's not happening. I'm not letting you go. Not now. Not ever. I refuse to lose you again. Nature itself wouldn't let us walk away—and I sure as hell won't give it the chance."

Nova muttered something under her breath, cheeks pink. "You're terrifying."

Hope grinned, smug. "And yet here you are, still in my bed."

Nova rolled her eyes and huffed, her voice dry with sass. "We're actually in my bed, thank you very much. Try not to look too pleased about it, Mikaelson."

Hope shot her a cocky grin, her tone laced with teasing. "Then I guess I'm just waiting for you to kick me out, Hale. Not that you've made any move to, considering how comfy I clearly am on your bed."

🍼 Baby Talk

They sat cross-legged on the bed, knees bumping occasionally, talking in low tones that only made the moment feel more intimate.

"So," Nova asked, hesitant, "do you even want this baby?"

Hope didn't hesitate. "Yes. I want this baby." She admitted she was scared too—terrified, even—but nothing had ever felt more right.

Nova nodded slowly, her voice softer now. "Not because you feel obligated?"

Hope leaned in, her gaze unwavering. "Not because I have to. Because I want to. I want the baby, and I want you. I'm not leaving, Nova. Not for this, not ever."

Nova's throat tightened. "Even if I freak out sometimes? Even if I mess up?"

Hope smiled gently. "Especially then."

They paused, letting the silence say what their hearts couldn't quite voice.

Nova sighed, laying her head briefly on Hope's shoulder. "Do you want a girl or boy?"

Hope tilted her head. "I don't care. I just want them to be safe. Loved. Though..." she hesitated, her tone dipping just slightly, "there's a chance they might be born like me. Intersex."

Nova blinked rapidly, then straightened her shoulders and met Hope's gaze. "As long as they're healthy, I don't care. And if they end up like you... then they're lucky, Hope. I wouldn't care. I'd love them just the same."

"What about names?" Hope asked.

Nova gave her a sideways smirk. "You mean you don't already have a list? I figured you'd have names color-coded by gender and magical potential since you found out like, what? A few hours ago?"

Hope laughed, looking smug. "Maybe one or two. You know, just a few magically-charged, soulbond-worthy names that might totally outshine anything you come up with. And before you say anything, yes—I'm that extra." She gave a playful shrug. "What about you?"

Nova shrugged, then whispered, "I always liked the name Talia, after my mom."

Hope smiled wide. "That's beautiful."

"And if it's a boy?" Nova asked.

Hope considered. "I don't know yet. Maybe something strong. Something that means survivor."

Nova grinned. "Guess we've got time to figure it out."

Finally, Hope said it simply but firmly: "No matter what, I'm not going anywhere. Not for the baby. Not just for the bond. But for you, Nova."

Nova glanced up at her, voice quieter now, more hesitant. "Do you really want it the baby, I mean. I just... need to hear you say it again."

Hope reached out, her hand coming to rest protectively over Nova's still-flat stomach. "Yes, Nova. I want this baby. And I want you. Both of you. I'm all in. Even if it's hard, even if we're scared—I'm staying."

Nova didn't reply right away. Her voice came out quiet but clear, vulnerable in a way she rarely allowed herself to be. "I want to keep the baby, Hope. After it's born, I want to keep it."

Hope's hand tightened slightly around Nova's, her thumb brushing along her knuckles. "Good," she whispered, her voice raw with emotion. "Because I want that too. I want this... all of it. With you."

But she leaned into Hope, just enough, and Hope didn't hesitate to hold her.

For the first time, it didn't feel like survival.

It felt like family.

🌙 Soft Closing

Later that night, they curled up in bed—not tangled in passion, but in something gentler. Hope's arm was slung around Nova's waist, her hand resting protectively over Nova's still-flat stomach. Nova's head rested against Hope's chest, listening to the steady beat of her heart.

It was quiet.

Peaceful.

They didn't need to say anything more.

Because for the first time since their worlds collided...

They were building something real—something messy, unexpected, and still uncertain, but rooted in raw truth and shared resolve.

Nova smirked up at Hope with her head still nestled on her chest. "So, any idea how you're gonna explain knocking someone up to your family?"

She paused, the reality suddenly sinking in as she stared at the ceiling, lips parting in realization. "Oh fuck."
