Chapter 7: registration
Orin stood in the Hunter Fortress training ground, drenched in sweat. His breathing was controlled, his body steady despite hours of intense training. The past month had transformed him. His physique had grown larger, his muscles more refined, and his entire frame felt harder—denser. His sharp silver-gray eyes reflected the massive digital screen in front of him, displaying his latest progress.
The fortress training grounds were massive, filled with all sorts of high-tech equipment designed to push hunters to their limits. Orin had spent countless hours here, pushing himself beyond what should have been possible for someone without an energy core.
The screen displayed his updated stats:

Orin clenched his fists, feeling the power in his grip. He had finally reached Level 2. A month of relentless training had paid off, but it had also come with greater challenges. His training plan had intensified, his exercises had become harder, and yet, his growth hadn't slowed down.
Over the past few weeks, he had also gained a deeper understanding of his body. He discovered that his muscle density was far beyond normal human levels, making him much heavier than he appeared. His skin had become tough almost like metal—but that wasn't the most interesting part.
He learned that he had full control over his body's resilience. If he allowed himself to, he could weaken his defenses and make himself more vulnerable. He could even stop his regeneration if needed.
After finishing his training, he left the facility and returned to his living quarters. His small apartment was simple—just a bed, a table, and a basic kitchen. After a quick shower, he threw on a black t-shirt and sweatpants before preparing his usual meal. The smell of cooked beast meat filled the room, rich with protein and nutrients needed for his enhanced body.
As he ate, a thought struck him. He picked up a sharp kitchen knife and pressed it against his hand. The blade barely left a scratch. He applied more pressure, but his skin was like solid steel. He frowned, focused his mind, and then tried again. This time, the blade made a clean cut. Blood seeped out, but the wound did not heal.
"Seren," he said, testing his new ability. "Compared to other hunters at my level, what are my strengths and weaknesses?"
The AI responded instantly. "hunter level is a conclusion of several factors, but your energy manipulation is at Level 0. Usually Against hunters of the same level, victory will depend on how you manage your strengths and weaknesses. But in your case, reaching level 2 relying solely on physical strength means that you have absolute advantage in close combat."

Orin stared at the screen. Heavy weapons? He thought about it for a moment but ultimately shook his head. They would only slow him down. His combat style relied on speed and precision. Fighting with his bare hands was still the best option.
Before he could think further, the doorbell rang.
He opened the door to see a familiar figure—his landlord. The short, round man wore his usual formal attire, but his expression was one of mild shock.
"You've changed a lot," the landlord muttered. His gaze drifted to Orin's arms. His skin seemed to gleam faintly under the light, as if made of metal.
Orin had instinctively activated his full physical defense before opening the door. Without replying, he stepped aside, but the landlord simply waved a hand.
"No need to go inside," the man said. "I just came to let you know we have available Earthling houses if you're interested."
Orin nodded. "Thanks, but I'll be moving out in two days."
The landlord didn't seem surprised. He simply offered a few recommendations and left.
Once the door closed, Orin exhaled. It was finally time."Seren," he said, "I need a storage belt."
A holographic display appeared, showcasing different storage items—belts, rings, backpacks. He inspected each option carefully before choosing a 50m storage belt for 10,000 units. It wasn't the best, but it was enough for now.
He stored the remaining 20kg of beast meat, along with some clothes and essentials. With one last look at his small apartment, he stepped out.
The Monster Hunter Union's examination tower stood at the center of the city, its massive structure piercing the skyline.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of it, forming long lines beneath massive banners. Each banner represented a different combat category, and young men and women stood beneath them, waiting for their turn.
Orin approached the area, scanning the options. A man in a black uniform with a scar over his left eye stepped forward.
"Welcome," the man said in a deep voice. "I'm Vlad, a guide for new applicants. If you have any questions, ask me."
Orin didn't hesitate. "I have fighting skills. Where do I sign up?"
Vlad nodded toward the red banner line. "That's your category. Wait your turn. Skipping the line or causing trouble will get you disqualified."
Orin joined the line. It moved slowly, but after two hours, he finally reached the front.
A woman with sharp blue eyes and dark hair sat behind the registration desk. Without much expression, she slid a risk acknowledgment form across the table.
"Sign here."
Orin scanned the document quickly. It detailed the risks of the examination, which included serious injury and even death. He didn't hesitate—he signed it.
The woman took the form, nodded, and handed him a small card.
"This is your registration pass. Go inside."
Orin walked into the massive tower. The inside was just as impressive as the exterior, with dozens of halls leading to different examination rooms. Each door had a banner indicating the type of test held inside.
He spotted the red banner hanging above a particular door.
Stepping forward, he paused for a moment."This is it. The first step toward my dream".
Without hesitation, he opened the door and stepped inside.
