Chapter 385: The Bait Film
The following day, while Paige kept incessantly studying the scientific basis of magic with the wizard, Wolfram, Dante was hanging out in the mansion's backyard.
Sophia had prepared several snacks for a picnic, which prompted the two harpion twins to join in their fun.
Megan, Zac, Victoria, Saris, Vesnia, and even Lindsey and Curtis were peacefully eating snacks and basking in the sun when Camille interrupted their little meeting.
When the handler arrived at the backyard, she was accompanied by Varamor and Isidor, who stood beside her like a pair of guards.
"Hey, everyone. Today is the day the movie comes out," Camille said as she arrived.
Dante turned his head to look at the handler, and when he spotted Varamor standing beside her, he raised an eyebrow with confusion.
"Hey, Varamor… What are you doing?" Dante asked, but he didn't mean it in a threatening tone. Instead, he was genuinely curious.
Varamor wasn't a demon who would follow anyone weaker than him, but Dante had noticed the Dragon King of Hell acted submissively towards Camille ever since he introduced her to him.
"I'm protecting the Winter Princess. I will put my life on the line for her safety," Varamor replied with utter confidence, which only made the warlock more confused.
"The 'Winter Princess?' What the hell are you talking about?" Dante continued, elaborating and saying he didn't have a problem with Varamor protecting Camille, but he still wanted to know what he meant.
Even Camille seemed a little confused at her guard's words, clarifying that she wasn't a princess. Nonetheless, Varamor didn't back down from his position.
'What does he see that I can't?' Dante wondered, reminiscing about the time he met Varamor himself.
Back then, Dante had been traveling through the circles of hell for a long time, searching for his beloved, Beatrice.
At one point, he found himself in an area that resembled the peak of an icy mountain, and the only way for him to get to the next circle of hell was to fly over a massive, fiery pit where the flames of hell burned for eternity.
Varamor, who lived in the mountain at that time, instantly attacked Dante as soon as he entered his territory.
Their fight lasted for a little more than twelve hours, and after Dante was victorious, Varamor decided to support him in his quest, giving him a ride in his dragon form across the fiery pit.
The only reason Varamor supported Dante was due to his strength. The warlock proved he was much stronger than the Dragon King of Hell, and in Varamor's eyes, he was obliged to help him.
Still, it was for that same reason that Varamor's current actions seemed so confusing to Dante, knowing that he wouldn't have sworn loyalty to anyone who couldn't defeat him.
When Camille brushed the matter aside to talk about Tanya's movie, Dante kept silently thinking about Varamor's strange attitude.
"The critics watched it first, and they have been giving their reviews… Look at this," Camille said, showing the critics' comments on her phone.
["8/10 - Too much action and no story!"]
["8.5/10 - It's a fun movie, but it's dangerous to misinform people by telling them this is a documentary."]
["8/10 - The CGI is amazing, it certainly looks real!"]
["7.5/10 - The movie is good, but it's a little too soon to make a film about such a recent tragedy. Especially a sci-fi movie like this…"]
["6/10 - The action choreography was good, but the special effects looked like garbage. The main character flying around looked too fake, and it destroyed my immersion."]
"What the heck!? Everyone thinks it's fake!" Zac exclaimed as he read the reviews.
Camille was already expecting a similar reaction from the public. There was a mix of controversy and skepticism surrounding the movie, which only made it more popular around the world.
There were people criticizing Tanya since, in their eyes, she had turned a serious event into a fantasy movie and promoted it as a documentary.
Others admired Tanya for creating such a film without caring about the public's opinion. Still, in the end, most people online came to the agreement that it was simply a movie, not real-life events.
"Be alert if you go outside. People might recognize some of you from the movie…" Camille explained.
"If that happens, pretend you are a real actor," she continued.
Zac, who was still reading the comments online, raised his hand with a question. "I get that the movie is making a lot of money, but was that the objective?" he asked.
The Jade Dragons were already extremely wealthy. There weren't many things that they couldn't afford, so going out of their way to publish a movie that portrayed some of their secrets didn't seem like a good idea.
However, Camille elaborated and said that it wasn't all about the money. It was about luring other mages into the spotlight.
"We already know about this 'Nekxis' organization, but we don't know any of their intentions towards us… I'm hoping Tanya's movie will make them show themselves to us again," Camille explained.
"Ermm, but like, do we REALLY want them to show themselves?" Zac questioned the handler.
"If everything we were told about them is true, then yes. Ideally, it would be better if we could become allies, but we need to know what kind of people they are…" Camille elaborated.
Their first impression of Nekxis wasn't too good, considering they tried attacking Dante and Camille. However, that was also their own way of showing that Nekxis didn't care who they attacked.
Any other criminal organization would have reconsidered giving the order to shoot at Camille, knowing the value that the handler holds. The fact that they didn't hesitate proved to her that Nekxis were on a different level.
When Camille said that Trinity had been on high alert, checking all the online comments to look for anything suspicious, Dante gazed at the handler with curiosity.
"Actually, I wanted to ask Miss Trinity to help me with something as well…" Dante commented.
Knowing that the warlock barely asked for things, Camille was glad to have him speak with Trinity. Still, she wanted to know what was on his mind.
"I want to look for someone…" Dante replied, leaving a moment of suspense hanging in the air.
