MMORPG: War God, You are Invincible Again

Chapter 248: Night Entry into the Royal Capital

These five weary Tower Masters finally had a good night's sleep tonight. After confirming that their health was not in great danger, Lu Hong left the guest room with relief.

Under the moonlight, the shadow of the official stretched long, as if afraid Lu Hong couldn't see it.

Walking up to the official, Lu Hong patted his shoulder, "Why haven't you rested yet?"

"Senior, it's my fault, but... but I hope you can give me a chance."

"If I didn't want to give you a chance, I would have killed you already." Originally, Lu Hong had planned to kill the official right away since he had abducted the seven Tower Masters. However, considering the five people rescued from the mine would be defenseless after his departure, he abandoned that idea.

"Thank you, Senior, thank you." With a clear response, the official finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Lu Hong gestured for him to follow.

Thus, the two of them strolled around the vast mansion.

After walking for a while, Lu Hong slowly spoke up, "You should know where I'm heading next."

"Yes, you're going to the capital to rescue your companions."

"So..."

The official immediately continued, "I will take care of your five companions with all my heart and ensure they suffer no further grievances."

"If you really take good care of them, I might consider doing you a favor." Lu Hong was still quite concerned about his comrades and consequently, offered a greater bargaining chip.

The official was somewhat tempted but still gritted his teeth, "Senior, I'm already very grateful that you spared my life, I dare not ask for more."

Lu Hong glanced at the official; not even a Second Transition expert was in this town, his Third Transition Early Stage power was too conspicuous here. Who would believe there wasn't some backstory?

"Tell me about your experiences."

Under Lu Hong's request, the official had no choice but to reply, "To report to Senior, I was originally one of the seven saints of the kingdom, a direct disciple of the Sword Saint, highly regarded for my Sword Dao talents. Thus, I was particularly valued by my master. Under his careful guidance, I quickly advanced through the Second Transition, becoming the foremost among the younger generation."

Listening to the official's story, Lu Hong believed it somewhat, as the official's posture when performing Fatal Strike was too standard, indicating some talent in his professional path.

"I thought I would ascend uninterrupted, inheriting my master's legacy and becoming the next Sword Saint. However, during the celebration dinner for my breakthrough into the Third Transition, I was unwittingly drugged. When I awoke, the youngest beloved daughter of the current emperor was lying in my arms, and the royal guards kicked down the door at that moment, arresting me."

Such a cliché plot, Lu Hong couldn't help asking, "Did you try to defend yourself?"

The official shook his head with a wry smile, "There was no way to defend myself."

"Why?"

"Because the location they searched was a secret chamber in my room. I genuinely didn't know about this chamber, but who would believe me? Even my master couldn't defend me."

"So you were exiled?"

"Yes, my master sacrificed his reputation to save me, but I was still expelled from the kingdom and banished to this remote town."

"Do you know who your enemy is?"

The official shook his head, "I don't know."

"Then I can't help you."

"Senior, your kindness alone is enough."

"I really want to know, was the idea to offer beauties as tribute yours or your master's idea?"

The official paused for a moment before responding, "It was my master's idea. Because of my situation, my master was removed from the Sword Saint ranking. Now that the Crown Prince is about to ascend the throne, if my master could connect with the Crown Prince, he might have a chance to return to the Sword Saint position."

"Then I ask you, was the residence you had in the capital bought by yourself?"

"It was given to me by my master..."

At this, the official froze, "Senior... do you mean my master framed me?"

"To let you offer beauties as tribute shows your master's character is not upright; the most suspicious person should be your master."

"It doesn't make sense. Why would my master frame me? He even lost his position as a Sword Saint. This arrangement has no benefits for him!"

"It's normal that you can't guess the dealings of those in power. After all, this is just my speculation, and as an outsider, I don't have much information."

Regardless, the official fell silent, perhaps slowly grasping some hints.

Patting the official's shoulder, "It's getting late, go back and rest, and remember what you promised."

The next morning, Lu Hong set off on his journey to the capital.

Though it was a fragment of the shattered Divine Grace plane, it was still quite large. Lu Hong took seven days of continuous travel to finally reach the outskirts of the capital.

Due to the imminent ascension of the Crown Prince, the capital was unusually strict in questioning, investigating the identity of almost everyone entering the city.

Lu Hong hadn't anticipated this, so he had to wait until nightfall to find a gap during the patrol change to sneak into the inner city.

Upon entering the capital, Lu Hong followed the map given by the official to find the dwelling of the Sword Saint.

The mansion that the Sword Saint lived in after being removed from his position had turned into a dilapidated house in the old city district.

He knocked lightly on the door.

"Who is it?"

"Is it the Sword Saint? Please open the door."

There was silence inside for a moment, then the door opened, and a middle-aged man, seeing Lu Hong's unfamiliar face, frowned slightly, "Who might you be?"

"Won't you invite me in?"

The Sword Saint then stepped aside, "Please come in."

After brewing a pot of tea for Lu Hong, the Sword Saint finally asked, "You visit late at night, may I know the reason?"
