Chapter 8: Will you take care of me 8
Kane nodded in acknowledgment; Callie had indeed piqued his interest.
As for what he liked about her, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
Maybe it was the allure of the unattainable?
In any case, the woman who had hurt him multiple times left a deep impression on him.
Shane knew Kane hadn't gained any advantage from Callie, which slightly calmed his anger. But knowing that Kane liked Callie made his anger flare up again.
Even more intensely than before!
"What do you like about her?" Shane couldn't see any redeeming qualities in that woman.
What was there to like?
Besides being fickle, what else could she do?
"I don't know either. I just want her," Kane replied without hesitation.
Shane frowned, feeling as if something that belonged to him was being coveted by someone else.
"Stay away from her!"
His tone was a clear warning.
Kane was baffled. What was going on?
He curiously asked, "President Robinson, are you interested in her too?"
Standing behind, Henry also cast his curious gaze towards his boss.
Something about his behavior seemed odd.
What was his deal with Callie?
Shane, with a serious expression, scoffed, "Why would I be interested in a woman like that?"
Kane smirked, "Everyone has different tastes, President Robinson. just because you don't like her doesn't mean I can't. As long as she's not married, I have a chance."
Shane narrowed his eyes and coldly replied, "She is married, so don't even think about it."
With that, he turned and walked towards his car.
"…"
Kane's mouth formed an O shape.
Married?
But it didn't matter. Whether he could win her over depended on how well he played his cards.
As long as he liked her, that was enough. Henry sensed something was off.
It seemed like Shane was quite concerned about Callie.
"President Robinson." He walked over and opened the car door for Shane.
The intense curiosity in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Shane realized that he had gotten overly worked up about Callie.
But he quickly found an excuse for himself.
She was his wife!
So, he wouldn't allow anyone else to covet her!
He might not like her, but he absolutely wouldn't let anyone else touch her!
This was about a man's pride!
He turned to look at Kane, who was s
He turned to look at Kane, who was standing nearby. "Don't even think about her. If something like today happens again, don't blame me for being harsh."
Kane was left speechless.
He felt utterly baffled.
Wasn't Callie the one Shane had given to him?
He licked his lips, thinking that maybe Shane wanted to keep her for himself?
So, he wasn't allowed to get close?
Kane was never one to back down from something he wanted!
He wasn't going to be obedient.
Shane drove away.
Henry left too, leaving Kane standing there.
He blinked, feeling utterly confused!
When he wanted to leave, he realized he had come in Henry's car. Now how was he supposed to get home?
"Henry!" he shouted.
But Henry ignored him and drove off alone!
In the villa.
After Shane left, Callie returned to her room, a red mark on her neck where Shane had grabbed her.
She looked at it in the mirror.
The urge to leave grew stronger by the minute!
If she stayed any longer, he might actually strangle her to death!
Taking a deep breath, she decided to take a shower and go to bed early. Just sending out resumes wasn't enough; she needed to go out and find a job tomorrow.
As she undressed and wet her hair, she realized she hadn't brought her pajamas. But thinking Shane wouldn't come to this room, she relaxed and focused on her shower. Afterward, she wrapped herself in a towel and stepped out.
Drying her hair, she walked to the mirror.
In the reflection, she saw a shadowy figure on the sofa, that cold face...
She spun around quickly and saw Shane.
Panicking, she clutched her chest, "Why are you in my room?"
Shane lounged lazily on the sofa, his gaze brazenly appraising her. "Callie Norris, who are you trying to seduce with all this?"
Thinking about how Kane had said he liked her made Shane fume.
He was convinced she had seduced Kane.
Callie opened her clear eyes, her long lashes fluttering as she tried to maintain her composure. "I never intended to show you anything!" she said calmly.
Shane chuckled, "Then who do you want to show?"
His gaze lingered on Callie, becoming more obvious. The towel barely covered her upper body, revealing her slender neck. Water droplets from her hair trickled down, disappearing into the tantalizing curve of her collarbone, sparking wild imaginations. Her long, slender legs, pale and smooth, made his mouth go dry.
"Is this outfit meant to seduce me?" Shane forced himself to stay composed, crossing his legs in a seemingly elegant manner.
His posture became more relaxed, and his eyes filled with mockery. "Your waist isn't slim enough, your skin isn't fair enough, and your chest isn't big enough. You can't seduce me looking like that."
Callie moved her lips, wanting to shout "You pervert!" but kept her face impassive. "I know you like the Belinda type. I could seduce any man, but I would never seduce you!"
Seduce any man!?
Shane's anger flared. He suddenly stood up, and Callie realized something was wrong. She tried to dodge, but he grabbed her wrist first, gripping it tightly.
Callie felt an intense pain, as if her bones were about to be crushed.
"Let go of me...!"
Before she could finish her sentence, Shane pulled her forcefully, causing her to crash into his solid, burning chest. She screamed in fright and, realizing what had happened, immediately pushed against him. "What are you doing? Let go of me right now!"
Instead of releasing her, Shane tightened his grip around her waist, holding her firmly against him.
His tall frame leaned down, his lips close to her ear. "Who pushes their own husband away, hmm?"
He deliberately dragged out the last syllable, making it sound so suggestive that it made Callie's face flush red.
Callie turned her head, trying to distance herself from him. "We're not really married."
"And what would make it real?" His voice grew softer, yet each word was expressed clearly. "Do you want to be a real couple with me?"
Callie's face turned crimson with anger. He was being completely unreasonable.
He knew exactly what she meant.
Why twist her words on purpose?
Despite feeling overwhelmed by Shane's imposing presence, she maintained a calm facade. "I wouldn't dare. I know my place and would never overstep my boundaries. Rest assured, President Robinson."
Shane was burning with rage!
Why was he so angry?!
The more she tried to distance herself from him, the more furious he became.
"Arrogant fool!" He shoved her away, and as he pushed Callie, the towel wrapped around her body loosened and fell to the floor in an instant.
Callie felt a sudden chill and looked down to see herself completely exposed...
"Ah!"
She frantically tried to cover herself…
Shane's gaze lingered on her curvy figure, his eyes deepening uncontrollably, his pupils trembling slightly. His Adam's apple bobbed up and down as he struggled to maintain his composure. "Do you think you can seduce me like this?"
The truth was, he was already seduced.
His pride wouldn't allow him to have such thoughts about a woman like her.
"I-I-I didn't..." Callie stammered, grabbing a towel to cover herself.
"In front of me, never show your filthy body again." With that, he slammed the door and stormed out.
He strode into the adjacent room, trying to avoid seeing Callie again.
But his mind was filled with the image of Callie's alluring body, replaying the most tantalizing parts like a movie being replaced.
He couldn't control his thoughts.
Frustrated, he tugged at his collar, which wasn't tight at all, yet he felt suffocated.
His restless and agitated mood made him want to lash out. He muttered under his breath, "Damn woman!"
Her ability to seduce was indeed impressive!
What infuriated him the most was that he had fallen into her trap!
He yanked off his tie and unbuttoned his shirt as he walked into the bathroom, hoping the cold water would help him cool down.
This was Shane at his most disheveled, all because of Callie!
Callie barely slept a wink that night because of what had happened too.
Though she had once let herself loose, she was not a frivolous person. Having her body seen by someone made her feel both ashamed and furious.
Yet, she dared not voice her anger.
The person involved was someone she couldn't afford to offend.
The next morning, she came downstairs with dark circles under her eyes, having learned her lesson, she wore long sleeves and pants.
Mrs. Ford had breakfast ready.
"Where is he?" she asked.
"Mr. Robinson left early," Mrs. Ford replied with a smile. "Come down and have breakfast."
Callie felt a wave of relief wash over her. Thank goodness he wasn't around; she could actually enjoy her meal.
After breakfast, she headed out.
For several days, she couldn't find a suitable job.
Shane hadn't come back during those days either.
She enjoyed the peace.
She even let her guard down a bit.
One of the resumes she had sent online got a reply. It was for a dance teacher position.
Her Latin dance skills were at level ten, though she hadn't obtained a teaching certificate. However, this place was willing to give her a chance.
She prepared seriously for the interview.
It had been years since she last danced, but the basic skills she had learned since childhood were still solid. With her slender figure, her dancing was still quite graceful.
The Dance Academy's Principal, Mrs. Lopez, was very approachable. "You can start as an intern," she said. "Your basic skills are quite good. Go get a teaching certificate, and you'll be fine."
"Alright."
During her free time, she had been longing for a job!
She cherished this opportunity.
At this moment, she had to thank Rafael. She didn't like dancing, but Rafael had threatened her that if she didn't learn to dance, she wouldn't be allowed to go to school. So, she had no choice but to learn.
Unexpectedly, it turned out to be useful now.
After working in the dance studio for a few days, she started to grasped it. She still didn't love it, but she didn't hate it as much as she did when she was a child.
The students who came to class were mostly between four and twelve years old. She taught the younger group, with about a dozen students, mostly six or seven-year-old girls.
Spending time with the children made her feel more youthful and cheerful, temporarily forgetting the troubles of life.
After the last class, Principal Lopez walked in with a smile and asked, "Teacher Norris, are you free tonight?"
Callie nodded, "Yes, I am."
She thought Principal Lopez had some work-related matters to discuss, but instead, she asked, "I wanted to ask you, do you have a boyfriend?"
Callie replied, "...No."
She was technically married to Shane in name only, so she didn't have a boyfriend.
Principal Lopez's smile widened, and she affectionately linked arms with Callie, saying, "I have a favor to ask of you."
Principal Lopez was a kind person. During the few days Callie had been at work, she had taken good care of her.
Now, with Principal Lopez being so affectionate, Callie felt a bit uncomfortable.
Gently pulling her arm away, Callie said, "If you need my help with anything, just let me know. If I can do it, I will. If not... I'm sorry."
Principal Lopez hesitated for a moment before saying, "My husband is the owner of Regen Pharm. He has a team that has been working on developing an anti-cancer drug for the past few years. They've invested a lot of money and have made some progress, but now they need more funding. He's looking for investors, but not everyone is willing to invest. Recently, someone showed interest, but they missed their last meeting. My husband thinks the investor might be having second thoughts. The investor is single and quite well-off..."
"Um..." Callie interrupted, "I'm not sure I understand."
What did this have to do with her?
She didn't have money to invest.
As a doctor, she certainly hoped for more pharmaceutical advancements like this. If she had a lot of money, she would help without hesitation. But the reality was, she was just an ordinary person working hard to make ends meet.
She couldn't offer much help.
Principal Lopez got straight to the point, "Here's the thing, my husband wants to find a pretty girl to go with him to meet the investor..."
"Wait a minute..." Callie began to understand the situation.
Was she being asked to entertain guests, secure investments, or make even bigger sacrifices?
"I appreciate you giving me a job, but I'm not an escort, and I don't flatter people. I can't help with this," she firmly declined.
Principal Lopez knew she was asking a lot.
This was indeed a last resort.
She waved her hand in disappointment. "I understand, I'm asking too much."
With a sigh, she continued, "To be honest, my husband isn't struggling to find investors; he just doesn't want to accept investments from foreign conglomerates. That would mean being controlled by others, which is not what he wants."
Callie looked at Principal Lopez. Over time, she had come to see her as a warm-hearted and responsible person.
Whether dealing with students or teachers, she had high standards but also showed empathy and understanding.
She was a perceptive person.
"I used to be a doctor, so I understand what you mean," Callie said, clenching her hands. She knew very well that once foreign conglomerates got involved, the prices of any successful drugs would be controlled by them.
The ones who would suffer would be the poor who couldn't afford the medication.
Even though she was no longer a doctor, her sense of responsibility hadn't diminished.
"I can give it a try?" she offered, despite having no experience with such matters.
She wasn't sure if it would work.
Principal Lopez, in her forties, maintained an elegant figure thanks to her background as a dancer. Her graceful demeanor and the gentle lines on her face represented the time's passage without the harshness of hardship, hinting at a harmonious relationship with her husband.
Callie envied her. Principal Lopez had a happy marriage and a fulfilling career she loved and excelled in.
In contrast, Callie found herself stuck in a job that had nothing to do with her dreams.
And her marriage was a complete mess.
"Really?" Principal Lopez was overjoyed, grasping Callie's hand. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it. I'm not sure if I can be of any help," Callie replied.
Principal Lopez said, "We'll do our best. As long as we can face our own hearts, that's enough."
Despite her nervousness, Callie accepted Principal Lopez's suggestion. She applied light makeup and dressed a bit more provocatively than usual.
On the way, she stopped by a pharmacy.
Just in case.
She couldn't truly sacrifice herself; she wasn't that noble.
Soon, she arrived at an upscale restaurant where she met Principal Lopez's husband, Harrison.
He wasn't yet fifty, but gray hairs were already visible at his temples.
Callie sat down just as the door to the private room was pushed open.
She looked up and saw Henry, followed by a tall figure appearing at the doorway.
The moment Shane's imposing figure stepped into the private room, Callie froze.
Her entire body stiffened.
Harrison stood up and greeted him respectfully, "President Robinson."
Shane's gaze moved lightly over Harrison's face and landed on Callie.
She usually went without makeup. Ever since he had known her, she had never worn any. Her daily attire was always modest and conservative; he had never seen her in a spaghetti strap dress before.
The vibrant red color made her skin look even more radiant and flushed.
Noticing that Callie hadn't moved, Harrison reached out and gave her a slight tug. "Stand up and greet him. This is President Robinson."
However, the moment Harrison's hand touched Callie's arm, Shane's expression darkened. If not for his remaining sense of reason, he might have rushed over and pulled Callie away.
Callie stood up, her form-fitting dress underlining her curves perfectly.
She exuded an unexpected allure.
Shane lightly fluttered his eyelashes, a glint of light quickly disappearing from the depths of his eyes.
Callie felt a wave of nervousness wash over her. She had never expected that the person she was meeting would be Shane. Had she known, she would never have agreed.
She stammered, "P-President Robinson..."
Harrison with a smile, introduced her, "This is Miss Norris."
As soon as he finished speaking, he gestured for Callie to pull out a chair for Shane.
Callie clenched her hands, her palms covered with cold sweat. She couldn't understand why she was so afraid of Shane.
Maybe it was the constant humiliation he subjected her to, or perhaps it was the way he suppressed her, forcing her to tread carefully around him.
In any case, she was on edge.
She had to maintain a facade of not knowing him. Pulling out the chair, she said, "President Robinson."
Shane sat down, and just as Callie was about to leave, he grabbed her hand. It wasn't unusual for a beautiful woman to appear at a business negotiation table, after all.
Typically, those who come seeking favors are prepared for situations like this.
Women like her are naturally meant to be sacrificed.
Yet, she found herself in such a predicament.
His wife, Callie Norris, reduced to selling herself?
Ha.
Shane let out a cold laugh!
His grip on Callie's wrist was so tight, it felt like he might crush her bones, causing her to tremble in pain.
She desperately wanted to break free from Shane's grasp and run away, but doing so would surely draw Harrison's attention. She had no choice but to stay, forcing a smile and trying to flatter him.
Standing behind Shane, Henry glanced at Callie.
He thought to himself, what is this woman thinking?
If she shows her face like this and people find out she's Shane Robinson's wife, what will they think of Shane Robinson?
Would Shane's reputation survive?
Shane lifted his gaze to look at her, his dark eyes carrying a hint of coldness. He quickly shifted his gaze away and asked, knowing full well the answer, "President Jenkins, what do you mean by bringing a woman like this here?"
Harrison chuckled as he noticed Shane's interest in Callie. "She's a dance instructor at my wife's studio. I thought she could entertain us a bit."
"A dance instructor?" Shane was surprised. Wasn't she supposed to be a doctor?
Nowadays, it seemed like anyone could be a teacher.
"Yes, how about we let her perform a piece?" Harrison suggested with a smile.
Shane picked up a napkin from the table and wiped his hands, even though they weren't dirty. He just felt uneasy. Standing up, he said, "I prefer to enjoy it alone."
With that, he grabbed Callie by the wrist and told Henry, "I'll leave this to you."
Harrison quickly interjected, "About the investment..."
Shane had already looked into Harrison's company's research and was inclined to invest, but now...
He smirked arrogantly. "Let's see how Miss Norris performs."
The word "performs" was emphasized heavily.
Harrison wanted to say more, but Henry stopped him. "President Jenkins, let's discuss this between the two of us."
As Shane's assistant, naturally, I understood his thoughts.
Shane yanked Callie out of the restaurant and shoved her into the car. "Callie Norris, I really underestimated you. Is there anything shameless you can't do?"
That night, he had been utterly bewitched by this woman.
Never before had his will and emotions been so disturbed and confused by a woman, to the point where it affected his normal judgment and thinking.
He was furious that something had happened beyond his rational control.
He had never felt so embarrassed, unable to face someone.
He had been avoiding the villa lately, just to prevent a repeat of that night.
Who would have thought this woman would once again intrude into his sight?
And still in this manner!
Seeing her dressed so seductively, clearly to please men, made him want to strangle her.
If it hadn't been him who came today, would she be flaunting her charms in front of another man?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. An uncontrollable rage surged through his mind, making it impossible to think clearly.
He just wanted to possess this woman!
His movements were so swift that Callie didn't even realize his intent. By the time she reacted, her soft lips were already covered by his.
"Mmm—"
She tried to struggle, but as soon as she moved her hands, they were grabbed and pinned above her head, fixed against the backseat.
Shane was domineering and forceful, with not a hint of gentleness. His actions felt more like punishment, constantly taking and possessing!
Her lips were soft, carrying a unique fragrance.
There was a strong sense of familiarity.
He grew greedier.
Pain.
Callie trembled all over, feeling only pain.
She couldn't resist and could only endure it.
A few minutes later, Shane's rationality returned. He slowly released her lips, his eyes lowered, staring at her flushed, tender lips, still marked by him. His Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke in a hoarse voice, "Callie, as long as we are still married, I forbid you from showing your face and seducing other men. Do you understand?"
Callie's heart trembled. She lifted her moist eyes, her long lashes heavy with tears. Who did he think he was?
Did he really think she was so easily bullied?
She glared at him angrily. "Shane, you took away my chance to work at the Second Military District General Hospital and made me lose my job. I'm a person, I need to live! If I can't show my face, are you going to support me?"
Shane was taken aback. "The opportunity at the Second Military District General Hospital?"
Callie pushed him away forcefully. "Don't pretend! Wasn't it you who made the dean give my spot to Belinda Ayers?"
"I didn't..." Shane quickly realized that he had indeed asked the dean to take care of Belinda.
Belinda going to the Second Military District General Hospital—was it because she took her spot?
"You are pushing me further away from my dreams. You took away the job I love. Shane Robinson, I hate you!" she spat out through gritted teeth.
She stood up and shoved him away.
Caught off guard, Shane, looked somewhat lost in thoughts.
Callie strode forward. Normally, she didn't wear high heels, but she had chosen to wear them today to match her dress. Walking quickly, she accidentally twisted her ankle. "Ah—"
Shane, with quick reflexes, stepped forward and caught her.
Her soft body fell into his arms.
Shane's heart skipped a beat.
Her waist was so delicate, it felt like it could break with just a little pressure.
Callie slapped at him, "Let go!"
Ignoring her struggles, Shane lifted her up and tossed her into the car, whispering, "Stop it!"
His tone was less sharp than usual, carrying a hint of patience and reassurance.
Callie felt wronged. "What do you want from me? Do you want to push me to death before you're satisfied?"
Shane turned his back on her, hiding his face and the turmoil of emotions and expressions he couldn't control.
"You didn't listen."
Callie let out a bitter laugh. It was clearly him who had been pushing her to the edge, and now he was trying to twist the truth?
Unbelievable!
"Shane, I want a divorce!" At this moment, she didn't care about the agreement she had signed with Old Master Robinson.
She just wanted to get away from him as quickly as possible. Otherwise, she felt like she would be driven to death!
Her words inexplicably angered Shane.
He turned around, his face as cold as ever, his eyes fierce like a leopard eyeing its prey. "Don't forget, you signed an agreement with my grandfather promising not to divorce me. What, are you planning to break your promise?"
Belinda, who had just stepped out of the dining room, happened to hear Shane Robinson's voice.
She looked over.
And then she saw Callie sitting in Shane's car.
Her pupils contracted sharply!
