Mistaken shadi

Chapter 6: same old trick 6

Callie didn't understand why he was so angry.

She answered honestly, "Yes."

To her, every minute, every second spent with Shane was pure agony!

Her unwavering response clearly showed her inner rejection.

"Hah." Shane stood up abruptly. "Since it's so tormenting for you, then you can just keep suffering!"

He wasn't in a hurry to divorce her either.

Even if he didn't like her, he would make sure she stayed!

"President Robinson..."

"As long as I'm around, don't even think about your job!" Shane spat out venomously.

In a panic, Callie grabbed the hem of his shirt. "I truly love my job, and I really need it. Please..."

Shane, growing impatient, shoved her away. Callie, too exhausted to resist, collapsed onto the couch. Her shirt rode up, revealing a slender, pale waist that looked as fragile as a willow branch, as if it could break with the slightest pressure.

It stirred a reckless urge to hold and torment her.

His eyes darkened, his voice turning cold to mask a hint of huskiness. "What, trying to seduce me?"

Callie felt weak all over. The fall made the wound on her head throb with pain.

She looked down and saw her shirt pulled up, quickly pulling it down in a panic.

She looked down and saw her shirt pulled up, quickly pulling it down in a panic.

"Even if you stripped naked and stood in front of me, I wouldn't be interested," he said slowly, each word as cold and sharp as a knife.

Cutting deep.

Callie didn't respond.

She knew she couldn't persuade someone as cold and heartless as him.

Shane turned and walked upstairs.

Callie lay weakly on the couch, not wanting to move.

Mrs. Ford, seeing Shane leave, finally dared to approach. "You don't look well. Are you feeling sick?"

Callie shook her head. "No."

"You haven't had dinner yet, have you? Would you like to eat something?" Mrs. Ford asked.

She really had no appetite and couldn't eat anything at the moment.

"I want to sleep," Callie said as Shane went upstairs. She had no idea which room he was heading to, so she simply curled up on the couch. "Can you get me a blanket?"

Seeing how exhausted she was, Mrs. Ford went to fetch a light blanket and gently covered her with it. "Alright, you sleep. I'll keep the food warm for you. You can eat when you wake up."

Callie lifted her heavy eyelids and looked at Mrs. Ford. In this cold, unwelcoming villa, Mrs. Ford was the only person who made her feel warm.

"Thank you, Mrs. Ford," she said in a hoarse voice.

"You're welcome," Mrs. Ford replied with a smile.

Callie slowly closed her eyes as Mrs. Ford turned off the main lights, leaving only two nightlights on.

She slept deeply and didn't wake up even by eleven o'clock. Mrs. Ford had also gone to bed.

In the middle of the night, Shane came downstairs to get some water and saw Callie lying on the couch.

The light blanket had slipped off onto the floor. He walked over and glanced at her, but showed no intention of covering her back up.

However, just as he was about to turn and leave, she suddenly grabbed his robe.

With a strong pull, the belt knot loosened, revealing his well-built, muscular body.

He instantly flew into a rage!

"What do you think you're doing?!" he snapped, his voice sharp and commanding.

Callie was dreaming. In her dream, two giant snakes were coiling around her, squeezing the breath out of her. Just when she thought she would suffocate, a light appeared, and she grabbed onto it desperately...

She thought she was about to be saved, but then she was jolted awake.

Opening her eyes, she saw a tall man standing in front of her, his clothes disheveled, looking like he was ready to devour her.

She instantly woke up fully, scrambling to the corner of the sofa, her voice trembling and hoarse from sleep, "W-what do you want?"

Her voice was raspy from just waking up, with a hint of a tremble.

Shane let out a mocking laugh. Clearly, she had deliberately messed up his robe, and now she was pretending to be scared?

"Isn't it you who wanted a man and pretended to be asleep to make a move on me?"

Callie's breath hitched, her fingers slowly curling up as she stubbornly glared at him, "I did not!"

Shane obviously didn't believe her. "Really?"

Without warning, he leaned in closer.

His approach carried a crisp, cool scent, yet it was filled with an oppressive, aggressive aura.

Instinctively, she reached out her hands to block him.

Her soft, warm hands touched Shane's chest, and the sudden skin contact made him tense up. He slowly lowered his gaze and saw her hands.

Her hands were beautiful, especially her fingers—slender, with distinct knuckles and soft, fair skin.

The warmth from her palms seemed to penetrate the skin, seeping into one's bloodstream.

Shane felt an inexplicable agitation, attributing this discomfort to the woman's deliberate teasing.

He leaned in closer. "Can't stay away from men, huh? Trying to mess with me?"

Callie bit her lip. "You're shameless!"

"Shameless?" Shane chuckled, the sound low and rumbling as if it came from deep within his chest. "Weren't you the one who touched me first?"

It was only then that Callie realized, in her fear of him getting too close, her hands had been pressing against his chest. She hadn't noticed until he pointed it out, but now she felt the firm, burning heat of his chest, like a scorching fire, and quickly withdrew her hands in shock.

The warmth of his body lingered in her palms.

She was at a loss, not knowing where to place her hands or where to look.

With a dry throat, she stammered, "I didn't mean to."

Her breath was sweet and enticing, making anyone close to her feel a sudden urge.

Shane was no exception, but he restrained himself, remaining calm as if unaffected by any worldly desires. He straightened up and leisurely tied the belt of his robe. "I'm hungry."

Callie froze for a moment, unable to react.

Shane glanced at her and, seeing her motionless, assumed she was unwilling to get him something to eat. He sneered, "Even if you don't want to, you're my wife now. Whatever I tell you to do, you have to do it!"

Callie pressed her lips tightly together, his words stabbing painfully into her heart.

But she couldn't argue back.

She got off the couch and headed to the kitchen.

She hadn't eaten dinner and was feeling a bit hungry herself.

Mrs. Ford had left some food, so she heated it up quickly and brought it to the table.

"It's ready," she called from the living room.

Shane got up and walked over, his eyes scanning the table. His face remained expressionless, giving no hint of whether he was satisfied or not. Callie, trying to avoid any trouble, kept her head down and tried to be as invisible as possible.

Fortunately, Shane didn't pick a fight, but Callie, feeling unwell, couldn't manage more than a few bites before feeling nauseous.

She held back her discomfort at the table and got up to go to the bathroom.

This time, she couldn't hold it in and threw up.

Suddenly, she remembered that she hadn't had her period this month.

Her cycle was usually very regular.

A sense of unease crept into her heart.

Could she be pregnant? No, that couldn't be. She had taken her birth control pills.

She must be scaring herself for no reason, she reassured herself.

Returning to the dining table, Callie tried to calm her nerves. She picked up a spoon without looking and took a sip of soup. As she swallowed, she looked up to find Shane giving her a peculiar look.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Had she offended him again?

She couldn't think of anything she might have done.

"Is the food not to your liking?" she asked, forcing a smile, though she wished she could stab him with a knife.

Was he always trying to make things difficult for her?

Would he not rest until she was utterly tormented?

If she had known, she might have poisoned the food.

Shane picked up a piece of broccoli, put it in his mouth, and chewed slowly, his expression inscrutable.

Callie couldn't be bothered to deal with him. As she looked down to continue eating, she noticed her spoon was still beside her bowl. The one in her hand...

She looked up again.

Shane's spoon was missing.

Boom!

Something seemed to explode in her mind.

Was she using Shane's spoon?

"Callie, do you like me?"

Shane spoke leisurely, his tone carrying a hint of amusement.

Why he was in a good mood, he didn't quite know himself.

"I...," Callie wanted to explain but didn't know where to start. The truth was, she had used his spoon. Just moments ago, she had sipped soup from the very spot his lips had touched...

Oh my gosh—

Did that count as an indirect kiss?

She felt like banging her head against the wall!

"I didn't mean to..."

"If you want to kiss me, just say it. Why beat around the bush?" Shane picked up a napkin, elegantly wiped the corner of his mouth, and slowly stood up. He glanced at her with a half-smile. "A woman like you, who seems ready to pounce on any man, would find it strange not to have any thoughts about me, right?"

Callie was speechless.

Her eye twitched.

Was this man a narcissist?!

Have thoughts about him?

Only if every other man on earth were dead!

"It was an accident. Rest assured, I have absolutely no interest in you. If I do, may lightning strike me dead!" she declared vehemently, denying it with all her might.

Shane squinted. She dared to swear such a vicious oath?

Did she have a death wish?

This woman was something else!

Very interesting!

Instead of getting angry, he smiled and asked, "I heard you can never be a doctor again?"

Callie's head shot up.

Her hatred for him was unmistakable! Shane laughed.

Seeing her angry made him happy.

"What... what will it take for you to let me go?" she whispered.

Although Old Master Robinson had already paid for her mother's medical bills, she still needed to think about their future. Without a job, there would be no income. How could she provide a good life for her mother? Besides, being a doctor was her passion and dream.

Shane was in a good mood, probably because seeing her so subdued brought him joy. "If you behave well, I might just be merciful," he said with a smirk.

He took a step forward, then suddenly stopped, as if giving her a chance or perhaps just making things difficult. "I have a dinner meeting at Blue Bridge tonight. If you still want your job, you can come find me there."

Callie clenched her fists, knowing that he wasn't going to make things easy. But it seemed like she had no other choice. She bit her lip and said, "I understand."

As Shane went upstairs, she cleaned up the dining table and then tried to rest in the living room, but sleep eluded her.

It was almost dawn when she finally fell asleep.

When she woke up, it was nearly noon. She hadn't showered the entire night, so she took advantage of Shane's absence to go upstairs and take a shower. As she pushed open the door to her room, she realized…

Shane had not slept in the room where she had spent the night.

Everything inside was neat and untouched.

She walked in, took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and then headed out. She went to the hospital, only to find that her job had been reassigned by the director.

There was no place for her anymore.

Feeling dejected, she turned around.

As she walked out of the hospital, she stood on the steps, knowing deep down that she had no other choice.

That evening.

She arrived at Blue Bridge.

Standing at the entrance, just as she was about to go in, she saw Belinda.

Why was Belinda here?

It didn't take long for her to recall Belinda's connection with Shane, and it all made sense.

She stepped inside, almost as if guided by an unseen force, and followed Belinda.

She watched as Belinda walked into a private room, but inside wasn't Shane.

Instead, it was a wealthy guy from their college days who had once pursued Belinda.

Despite his wealth, he wasn't very good-looking, which was why Belinda had never been interested in him.

Why would Belinda meet with him now?

Driven by curiosity, she decided to find out more. She quietly tiptoed forward and peeked through the crack in the door, only to see the rich kid holding Belinda intimately.

And Belinda wasn't pushing him away. Callie's mind was filled with questions.

Wasn't she in a relationship with Shane? Was she cheating on Shane?

The thought made Callie's heart skip a beat.

With Shane's temper, if he found out, he might just strangle her!

Just then, a voice came from inside, "Corey, let's end this on good terms. Let's break up."

Corey's face instantly changed. "You're breaking up with me because you've found another guy, haven't you?"

Belinda hurriedly explained, "No, I just think we're not right for each other."

Corey sneered, "You didn't say we weren't right for each other when you were spending my money."

Corey laughed, his already unattractive face now looking even more sinister. "I'm not breaking up with you."

Belinda looked at his face and then thought of Shane's face.

The man in front of her looked so hideous that it made her want to vomit. She wanted to cut ties with him immediately!

To prevent Shane from discovering she had another man, Belinda knew she had to tread carefully.

Belinda was aware that Corey wouldn't easily agree to break up, so she was prepared. "I'll pay you back every cent I've spent of yours," she declared.

The truth was, she had only been with Corey because of his money.

She never imagined she would get involved with someone like Shane.

If she had known, she would never have tangled with a man like Corey.

Now that she wanted to get rid of him, it wasn't going to be that simple.

"Pay me back everything?" Corey was genuinely surprised by Belinda's determination. He hadn't expected her to offer to repay the money.

"Fine, pay me back a hundred times what you owe," Corey said, knowing full well that her vanity and extravagant lifestyle meant she had no savings. She had spent all his money on luxury goods and indulgences.

There was no way she could come up with the money to repay him.

"Why don't you just rob a bank?!" Belinda snapped, infuriated.

"Belinda Ayers, let me tell you, I'm not that easy to get rid of!"

Corey genuinely liked Belinda. Inside, Corey pushed Belinda down onto the couch.

Belinda struggled, "Let go of me!" "Stop pretending to be innocent."

"Don't push it, let go of me now!" Ever since she thought she had a chance with Shane, seeing Corey only filled her with disgust.

She couldn't stand being close to him!She was utterly repulsed!

"I want you, and I won't take no for an answer!" Corey ignored her protests, pinning her down on the couch and tearing at her clothes.

Belinda pushed him away, "Let go of me! Don't touch me!"

Callie found the scene unbearable. She didn't want to watch and turned to leave, only to bump into a 'wall.' Feeling guilty for spying, she was startled to find someone behind her and let out a gasp...

But before she could make a sound, a hand covered her mouth.

She looked up and saw Shane.

His tall, lean figure cast a shadow on the ground from the overhead light, exuding a chilling, dark aura.

Callie swallowed nervously. Had he seen it too? Heard it?

Her swallowing motion felt like it was drawing Shane's palm closer, her soft lips pressed tightly against his skin.

Her breath, warm and gentle, with a slight tickle, fell entirely into his hand.

His heart was stirred, momentarily losing control, but he forced himself to look down and issue a warning with feigned calmness.

Callie, "..."

She was utterly baffled by the glare she received.

Inside, the sounds of a heated argument continued to echo.

However, Shane showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he kept one hand over

Callie's mouth while listening intently.

Callie was tense and dared not move. Had Belinda driven him to madness?

Why wasn't he stopping this?

Wasn't he afraid that Corey might actually succeed in his advances on Belinda?

Inside the private room:

"Belinda, I'm telling you, you can forget about breaking up with me, and I can forget about you paying my money back!" Corey was probably really into Belinda, which is why he was being so difficult.

"I don't even like you," Belinda retorted, clearly pushed to her limit.

"You were the one who kept pestering me. I only gave you a chance because I felt sorry for you. Don't be so ungrateful!"

Corey was infuriated; Belinda Ayers' words had clearly hit a nerve. "Belinda, do you really think I don't have a temper?" "Corey... let go of me... let go..."

The sounds from inside continued, but it was unclear how far things had progressed.

Shane, with a dark expression, didn't intervene. Instead, he grabbed Callie and pulled her away.

Once they were inside a private room, Callie immediately asked, "Why are you here..." Shane had no intention of answering her.

He had arrived later than Callie and saw her peeking through a door as he passed by in the hallway. Curious, he approached, and what he saw...

His entire being radiated a chilling coldness.

All the beautiful memories of that night were shattered.

He felt utterly disgusted!

He couldn't believe that Belinda had another man!

But he distinctly remembered that the woman he had been with was a virgin!

That kind of innocence couldn't be faked!

So, could it be that Belinda wasn't the one?!

"President Robinson..."

"Shut up!"

Callie was cut off harshly by Shane before she could finish her sentence.

He took out his phone and called Henry.

The call connected quickly.

"Go to the hospital and find out who it was that night!"

He hung up the phone and casually tossed it onto the table.

Smack!

Callie flinched in surprise.

She stood quietly to the side, not daring to make a sound.

Getting tangled up with an ex-boyfriend is something no one would tolerate, let alone the arrogant Shane!

"Um..." she began softly, trying to speak.

Shane was fuming, and at that moment, even the sight of Callie irritated him.

He couldn't calm down, pacing back and forth, his molars grinding audibly, his eyes blazing with uncontrollable anger. He knew deep down that his molars grinding audibly, his eyes blazing with uncontrollable anger. He knew deep down that his rage stemmed from the thought that the woman he desired had a disgraceful side!

It shattered all the beautiful fantasies he had about that night!

Just being here made him think of the disgraceful things he had just heard.

He strode out of the room.

Callie instinctively followed, "President Robinson..."

Shane, consumed by fury, snapped, "Get lost!"

She stopped in her tracks. Even if Shane had any intention of giving her a chance, after what happened today, he wouldn't be in a forgiving mood, would he?

Callie wisely decided not to follow him any further.

She came here today hoping that Shane would show her some mercy, allowing her to keep her job as a doctor. But now, it seemed that wasn't going to happen. She took a step to leave.

Just then, she saw a man entering through the door.

Kane had come for some fun and ran into Shane at the entrance. He greeted him with a smile, "President Robinson..."

Shane glanced at him but didn't respond. He strode out and got into his car.

Kane didn't take it to heart. Shane was known for his bad temper.

He continued to smile cheerfully.

Callie, standing at a distance, couldn't hear what they were saying. She only saw Kane talking to Shane, with a smile on his face.

Her heart tightened instantly.

Last time, Shane had tried to use this man to ruin her!

Was Shane trying to pull the same trick again by luring her here?

For a moment, she wanted to take Shane down with her!

This man was too evil. No, he was a complete beast!

Even if he didn't like her, did he have to humiliate her over and over again?

She turned to leave, hoping to find a place to hide, but Kane spotted her.

"Callie Norris!" Kane recognized her familiar silhouette and jogged up to grab her arm.

Callie turned around in fright.

"This time, let's see how you run!" Kane had been searching for her everywhere, and finding her here was like stumbling upon a treasure.

She steadied herself and forced a smile. "I wasn't running. Last time, I had an emergency and had to leave."

Kane narrowed his eyes, which were as sharp as a hawk's. "Do you think I'm an idiot? That easy to fool? My wounds haven't even healed yet. I haven't forgotten how you held that knife against me!"

Callie trembled inside. Last time, she had been prepared and barely escaped his clutches. This time, she was caught off guard, and escaping like before seemed nearly impossible.

She could only try to stall him with a smile. "It was an accident, really. I didn't mean to..."

"Is that so?" Kane knew perfectly well it wasn't an accident, but he didn't argue. Instead, he smiled wickedly. "If it was an accident, that means you were willing, right? So, why don't we finish what we started last time?"

Callie's heart raced with anxiety. "Um..."

"Not willing, huh?" Kane sneered. "Didn't you say it was an accident?"

His expression turned icy. "Let me tell you, no one in this world dares to hurt me. You're the first one. If I let you off easily, I wouldn't be Kane!"

He gripped her wrist with brute force. "Come with me!"

Callie struggled with all her might. She knew that if she obediently followed him, she would be doomed!

"How did you know I was here? Did Shane tell you?"

She held onto a sliver of hope, praying that Shane hadn't gone to such insane lengths.

Kane responded impatiently, "Yeah."

After all, this woman was brought to him by Shane Robinson from the start.

Callie's heart turned cold.

So it was Shane after all!

"I have a private room here. Let's go there and have some fun. It's strange, though. A stunning beauty like you, and Shane didn't keep you for himself. Could it be that he really doesn't like women?" Kane laughed as he looked at Callie.

Shane never had a girlfriend, and everyone who knew him was aware of this. He was always surrounded by men, never women.

Many people speculated that he was impotent. Some said he was gay.

In any case, they thought he was abnormal!

Callie sneered. It wasn't that he didn't like women.

He just didn't like her!

Look at how furious he got when Belinda tangled up with her ex-boyfriend.

He was so angry because he cared, didn't he?

"But I really have to thank Shane," Kane laughed. "Without him, how could I have met you?"

That day, although he was hurt, this woman left a deep impression on him with her calm demeanor while threatening him with a knife.

Most women, even if unwilling, would just scream and shout in fear, right? But not her!

Callie's eyes were cold, and she gritted her teeth. "I also have to thank him!"

Kane's eyes lit up. "What, are you willing to be with me?"

Callie nodded. "Willing..."

Before she finished her sentence, she lowered her head and bit down hard on the arm that was holding her. Kane yelped in pain, and Callie seized the opportunity to headbutt him in the face!

Kane's nose started bleeding instantly. "Ugh!"

He clutched his face in pain.

Taking advantage of the moment, she ran away.

She was terrified but didn't hold back!

She knew that if she got caught, it would be terrible!

She had to succeed.

She ran fast, her feet seeming to have wings, glancing back to see if Kane was chasing her.

Even though she didn't see anyone, she didn't relax. She kept running until she reached a crowded area and finally slowed down a bit.

Sweat soaked her hair, and she only stopped when she was completely out of strength, sitting down by the roadside.

Gasping for breath, she looked at the bustling street, full of people, and suddenly covered her face and started crying.

She bit her lip hard, hating Shane with all her heart!

He had hurt her again and again.

She couldn't live with Shane anymore.

Otherwise, he would destroy her sooner or later!

She had to get away from this man!

But at the moment, she couldn't think of a good way!

She curled up helplessly by the roadside.

Like an abandoned puppy, pitiful and lonely.

She didn't dare go back to the villa; she was afraid of Shane.

But she had nowhere else to go.

Without money, she had no support. Right now, as long as she could get some money, she would have the means to survive.

She stood up, deciding to make a trip to the Norris Family estate.

It seemed like her only option was to get money from Rafael.

With her mind made up, she got up and hailed a taxi.

As she sat in the taxi, her gaze drifted out the window, and she felt her mood calm down considerably.

When she arrived at her destination, she paid the fare and stepped out of the car, walking purposefully towards the entrance.
