Chapter 25 The Dead Resurrected
The next day.
Abigail had a feeling: Sister Angelica was in a particularly good mood today. She kicked the stones as she walked on the road, humming a little tune all the way, like a child on an outing.
Angelica checked out of the hotel in Colditz early this morning, saying that everything had been done. Before Abigail could understand what was going on, they had already arrived outside Lord Honore's manor.
There was a big difference between the manor and Abigail's memory. Last time it was simply unkempt, but this time the manor was in a complete mess, as if it had been robbed by bandits.
Angelica had a smooth journey, as the front doors of the manor and the mansion were not locked, and Miss Witch seemed to have anticipated such an outcome.
“…”
Abigail suddenly found something strange about the grave in the corner of the manor, where she had specially placed a bunch of flowers. The grave had been dug up by someone, and even the tombstone was crooked. Abigail felt sad from the bottom of her heart. She trotted to the grave and found that even the coffin in the grave had been dug up and was empty.
This is too much. There are even tomb robbers taking advantage of the situation to rob.
Abigail also has deceased relatives, and although it is impossible for her to return to Leo Village now, she certainly does not want anyone to disturb her brother's grave.
"I'm going in to look for the treasure, Abigail. You wait outside for me."
"Sister Angelica, where did the people who live here go?"
"Have no idea."
"I, I think... It's a bit rude to do this when no one is home..."
Abigail whispered, her intuition telling her that Angelica must have done something.
Angelica smiled.
"This manor is ownerless now, and they will never come back."
“Could it be that Sister Angelica…!”
"Stop. I'm not that cruel. I just helped them fulfill their wish. Lord Honoré's family wanted ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ to be reunited with Lord Honoré, and I pushed them in the back for this, that's all."
"Sister Angelica can also use the Resurrection of the Dead? I heard from her that it is an inherent magic."
Intrinsic magic was not in the sequence, and Abigail was surprised at Angelica's rich knowledge of magic.
However, Angelica, who was standing outside the entrance, pushed her black hair behind her ears and smiled coolly.
"Of course I can use the resurrection of the dead - because the resurrection of the dead is the inherent magic I invented."
"Huh?"
"I'm a magic genius, so it's normal for me to invent a few unique magics, right? It's a pity that unique magic cannot be patented. To be honest, I would rather this magic disappear. Resurrection of the Dead is actually a failure. It was given this name that I originally hoped it would have, but the final result was not worthy of the name. I destroyed the original manuscript a long time ago, and if it is passed on, it is most likely the masterpiece of "White"."
"Not worthy of the name? Can't you bring the dead back to life?"
"Yes. Abigail, this is what I want to tell you. Magic seems to be omnipotent, but it still has its limits. For example, resurrecting the dead is absolutely impossible. No one can do it, including me."
Angelica watched Samuel die; it was not her bad taste, in fact, she could not revive Samuel. Dr. Rothschild was prepared by Angelica in advance. if Flora really killed Dr. Rothschild, then even the witch would be helpless.
"But isn't that weird?"
"Strangeness?"
"Sister Angelica knew that the dead could not be resurrected, but she still invented the resurrection of the dead who could not be resurrected?"
The two had not spent much time together, but Abigail was well aware that Angelica was not very modest. Whether it was her beauty or magical talent, Angelica would always choose to show off when it was time to do so, without any reservation at all.
Angelica herself said that her hope for the magic of resurrection of the dead was to truly revive the dead, rather than to deliberately invent a fraudulent magic.
"Well, the cause and effect are reversed. It's because I've studied resurrection of the dead that I know there are some things that witches can't do. But it wasn't my original intention that my failed work would be spread out."
After saying that, Angelica walked into the house to look for the entrance to the treasure house.
After studying the resurrection of the dead, it became clear that the dead cannot be resurrected.
Abigail could understand, but then she had new doubts.
Why does Sister Angelica want to study the resurrection of the dead?
She... wants to resurrect someone...?
Abigail had no answer, and she felt it would be too offensive to continue asking questions.
Perhaps in the long past, the seemingly omnipotent "black" witch had longed, like the Honoré family, for the dead to return to her side.
After all, once upon a time, the witch was still an immature girl, living under the same roof, climbing mountains together, going deep into dungeons together, fighting powerful monsters together, and laughing at countless banquets. As time passed, the girl who needed others to take care of her at that time grew up to be a great witch who could travel the entire continent alone. She no longer needed to rely on her partners to support her. She could handle any problems by herself.
"Hmm... that's not right..."
Resurrection of the dead is a failed magic ritual.
Cannot resurrect the dead.
Abigail didn't mean to question Miss Witch's conclusion; she suddenly discovered a strange contradiction.
"Didn't Sister Angelica come to help them revive the dead yesterday? Then what exactly was resurrected?"
Raise the Dead cannot revive the dead, so what is its real effect?
Abigail stared at the empty grave, the coffin inside had been destroyed in an extremely violent manner.
There is a view that the body's protective function will limit a person's performance, because the body has a limit to its carrying capacity. Once the limit is exceeded, it is the body itself that is damaged and injured. However, if the body is not affected, it will burst out with strength and speed that ordinary people cannot achieve.
The tomb and the coffin appear to have been destroyed from the outside... but is that really the case...?
Abigail took a few steps back. She suddenly felt that the empty tomb was a little scary.
After a while, Miss Witch came out of the mansion.
"Sister Angelica?"
“…No more.”
Angelica weakly raised her left hand, holding a shriveled little bag, which probably contained some treasures... just a little bit visible to the naked eye.
"That's all that's left."
Abigail held her head. She had vaguely guessed the result. After all, if she really made a fortune, Sister Angelica's excited shouts would be heard directly in Colditz. Angelica was unusually calm, which was definitely the silence before the storm.
A moment later, the witch lady's roar resounded through the sky.
"I really should summon a meteorite to hit this place—"
"Please, please, calm down! Sister Angelica!"
