Chapter 45 Emerald-Tailed Skink_2
```
"The match starts!" the teacher in the middle announced. Following that, O'Connor waved his hand, and three black figures burst into the venue. They were three grey-furred, black-eyed meerkats.
Primordial Sequence 2·Illusory Eye Meerkats, a species that lives in groups and is united. They can join forces to release illusions, frightening and startling their enemies.
Since these were raised by himself, being able to breed three Sequence 2 meerkats in a few months, O'Connor had already become a leading figure among the freshmen.
"Fish." Hexia simply said, and a large silver fish leaped from the pool beside her, hovering at her side.
Compared to when it was first caught by the girl, the fish had grown twice as big, reaching nearly a meter in length. This was probably the result of the upgrade after the Transcendent magic power stimulation and ample nutrition supply.
Circling around Hexia, the large fish shimmered with flashes of Silver Scale brilliance. Then, at Hexia's gesture, it charged straight toward the trio of meerkats across from her.
"Three-Eyed Illusion Technique!" O'Connor bellowed. At his command, the three meerkats stood up, arms spread wide, their six eyes casting out ripples in a circle.
In the fish's perception, the space around seemed to twist and invert, with the sky and the ground becoming strange. The three meerkats' dark, blood-like eyes fixated on it, their bodies swaying and dancing like indescribable ancient gods. It also started to hear all kinds of phantom noises around its ears, causing it to feel anxious and uneasy.
Not caring for anything else, the Levitating Silver Scale Fish continued to surge forward, but its body orientation and sense of direction became erratic, never able to get a clear grip. It crashed into the mountainous figures of the meerkats, finding nothing but emptiness as if falling into the chaos of the abyss, surrounded by dazzling lights, unable to see anything.
From the perspective of the audience and outsiders, this was the silver fish slamming into the ground, then thrashing its tail left and right, twisting and turning without getting back up.
Ripples of laughter spread inside and outside the venue, and Hexia, too, could not help but press her hand against her forehead, feeling embarrassed.
Fish have weaker mental awareness than naturally born mammals and reptiles, and although the Silver Scale Fish had evolved, compared to other Transcendent creatures of the Same Rank, this was still a shortcoming, particularly vulnerable to psychic attacks.
Having no other choice, Hexia had to clear her throat and call out again.
"Sashimi rice bowl!"
At that command, the fish lying on the ground suddenly sprang up reflexively, then flipped and flew erratically around the arena until it accidentally crashed into one of the illusion-casting meerkats.
The cold fish tail slapped the meerkat's face like a palm, and the spray of salty water splashed into its eyes, making it blink instinctively. The illusion technique loosened at this moment, finally allowing the Silver Scale Fish to regain some clarity. It realized it had been interfered with by the illusion for it was not an ordinary Sequence 2 Transcendent being. Once weakened, such illusion techniques could be easily detected.
Thus, it accelerated again, its silvery body gleaming, becoming as hard and heavy as a rock, before slamming forcefully into the meerkat, toppling it.
Having dealt with one, the remaining two were merely a matter of time. And so, half a minute later, all three meerkats were declared defeated.
"The third round, Hexia wins."
"The semifinals are up next," the students discussed excitedly.
The competition continued, and quickly the top four were decided: Hexia, Orcas, Pawula, and Rin.
"The semifinals, Hexia against Orcas, Pawula against Rin."
Soon after the announcement, Hexia saw the young man on the opposite side make his entrance.
Compared to other students, Orcas was always taciturn. His skin was nearly brown, and his body bore many scars. He was said to have grown up in the wild and was specially recruited by the Academy. Although he fell behind in theory classes, in breeding and combat, he was a rare genius among his peers.
"Let's start," Orcas said without further ado as he entered, gesturing for a green shadow to drop from behind him.
Dragon Sequence 3·Emerald-tailed Gecko, about a meter long andlying flat against the ground. It had huge eyes and was covered in fine, light green scales.
This was going to be difficult, Hexia thought to herself as she watched the large gecko across from her. Her Silver Scale Fish was not a dedicated combat partner, but the one on the other side certainly was.
Transcendent creatures of the Dragon Sequence are typically stronger than others of the Same Rank; this was not a joke, but a fact. Apart from the special Blood Pupil Sequence, it would be quite difficult to defeat a Dragon Sequence creature in combat of the Same Rank.
However, she could only try her best. Actually making it to the top four had already exceeded her expectations, as she hadn't initially put much focus on this area.
"Rock Fish Charge!"
Hexia pointed, and the Silver Scale Fish bristled with thick Ice Thorns covering its body as it accelerated and headed straight for the Emerald-tailed Gecko on the ground.
Due to the speed, the gecko couldn't dodge quickly and its forelimbs and half-body were hit by the Silver Scale Fish, cutting a gash across its scales.
"Flame Spit Counterattack!" Orcas commanded indifferently.
Turning its neck, the gecko opened its mouth and sprayed a stream of green Flame onto the Silver Scale Fish. After being roasted for a moment, the fish staggered into the air and away. Smoke rose from its body, and numerous scales were singed black.
"One more time." Hexia shook her head. She didn't have many options left and could only make a final attempt. If this maneuver didn't knock out the opponent, the Silver Scale Fish wouldn't have any other magical powers to resort to.
