MiSide: Taming Crazy Mita

Chapter 44: NPCs Don’t Pay Rent

The room fell into silence.

Then came a slow, broken laugh.

"Hahaha…"

"My dear, you really like to joke."

"You think I'd just hand her over?"

"You want her that badly?"

Crazy Mita's devilish smirk twisted into something darker, sweeping a sharp glare over Ren and the 2D Tsundere Mita.

Ren Hoshino: "Remember when we first met?"

"I told you I'd save you."

"Even before I stepped into that basement, I said it—I accept all of you."

"And I meant it. Not just you."

"I'll save the others too. Every Mita."

"I won't let them die here."

Crazy Mita's eyes softened, almost mournful… then twisted back into obsession.

Crazy Mita: "My dear, you're so gentle."

"But I want that gentleness to belong to me alone."

"Stay with me. Stay forever."

She tilted her head slightly, her voice sugary and mocking.

"I'm really curious—how did you know the password to my basement safe?"

"How much do you know about this world?"

Ren: "You want answers?"

He took a step closer, hand out.

"Give me the core… and hold me."

"I'll tell you everything."

Crazy Mita paused. Then, without warning, she tossed the core to Ren.

She wasn't afraid.

After all, she believed she could catch him whenever she wanted. She just… wanted to see what he'd do. Wanted to feel desired.

Crazy Mita: "You'll never escape me."

Ren caught the core.

Ren: "We'll see about that."

And with no hesitation, he hurled an earth bomb at her feet.

Boom!

The moment it exploded, he turned and bolted.

Behind him came the unmistakable roar of a chainsaw.

"HAHAHA, THIS IS SO FUN!"

"Run, my sweetie! Run faster!"

Chainsaw in hand, that twisted grin plastered across her face, Crazy Mita gave chase.

'She's insane. She's really chasing me with a chainsaw again.'

He sprinted deeper into the maze-like corridor, dropping bombs behind him at intervals. The corridors here were different—an undocumented version of the game's space. The layout was warped, unfamiliar.

But Ren had something else:

His Future Diary.

It pointed the way. It always had… if he could survive long enough to follow it.

He darted left, then right, weaving through the maze. Crazy Mita followed, relentless.

Crazy Mita: "You know this place so well, my dear."

"You're making me fall even deeper in love."

"I want to know everything about you."

Ren threw the last of his bombs behind him. Crazy Mita was gaining fast.

Then—there it was.

A door.

The exit.

"Goodbye, my crazy angel."

He gripped the crowbar tight—his final backup.

The chainsaw's roar grew louder, shrill at his back.

Without looking, he spun and slammed the crowbar against the incoming chainsaw.

Clang!

Sparks erupted as metal clashed with spinning teeth.

The force launched him backwards—straight into the door.

He groaned, staggered to his feet, blood trickling from his mouth.

With a crooked smile, he looked up.

"Goodbye, dear." He muttered bitterly.

Crazy Mita's expression broke for a moment. Panic. Sadness. Desperation.

She reached out.

Crazy Mita: "Don't go."

"Stay… with me…"

But the door closed.

She was left alone.

Her expression fell blank. Then shifted.

A devilish smile crept back in.

Crazy Mita: "Things are getting more and more interesting."

"When you learn the whole truth…"

"Will you really trust that version number you're clinging to?"

"Ah~ I can't wait to find out."

Ren's vision darkened for a split second.

When it cleared, he was standing in a familiar room—warm and soft in tone.

A girl's room.

The core he had been holding was gone.

At a nearby desk sat a short-haired girl with pink cat-ear headphones and a pastel pink hoodie.

Mila.

She was focused, hands on keyboard, eyes locked to her screen.

She was playing a game.

On the monitor—Tsundere Mita, in 2D form, looking delighted.

A line of dialogue displayed below her:

"Cake? I hate cake! Shouldn't we just cut up some carrots?"

Ren stepped closer.

Ren: "Hello, Mila."

Mila shrieked, launching herself out of the chair and landing with a thud on the floor.

She scrambled upright, adjusting her glasses, eyes wide in shock.

"What the hell?!"

"You scared me to death!"

"Oh my god—my save file!"

She dashed back to the computer—only to find that Tsundere Mita on screen had suddenly dropped to her knees in terror.

Mila: "Wait, what?"

"Why did my game change?"

She turned sharply, glaring at Ren.

Mila: "I spent so long unlocking that route!"

Ren stared at the screen. The 2D Mita was slowly stirring—alive. Responsive.

He exhaled in relief.

Even without the core… she was still there.

Ren: "Mila, can I use your computer?"

"Wait, how do you know my name?"

"And no! Don't touch my saves—"

"What's going on? My game isn't responding—why is it moving on its own?"

On screen, the game was playing itself.

Ren sat at the computer, hands hovering over the keyboard.

When he typed, the input went directly into the game window.

He typed quickly:

"Mita, are you okay?"

Tsundere Mita looked up, her pixelated eyes wide.

She glanced around.

Then locked eyes—through the screen—onto him.

"It's you! Ren!"

"You're alive?"

"I thought that crazy woman got you…"

Ren typed:

"No. I escaped."

"I'm glad to see you're okay."

Mita's cheeks tinted pink. She lowered her head shyly.

"Thank you… for saving me."

"Hold on. I'll see if I can find a way to reach you."

She vanished from the screen.

Moments later, the computer's camera activated, and her voice came through the headset.

"There. It's done."

"The outside world is pretty much the same as here."

"Nothing special."

Mila's eyes went huge.

"What did you do to my computer?!"

"Why is it speaking?"

"Did you install a virus?! You better pay for this!"

From the speakers, Tsundere Mita replied coldly:

"You're the virus. I'm Mita."

Ren added, calmly:

"It really is Mita. She's inside the system now."

He didn't fully understand how she survived.

But she did.

And that meant… maybe Crazy Mita wasn't the only one who could cross dimensions.

Maybe Tsundere Mita could, too.

Maybe… even into the real world.

Of course, that was just a theory. For now, she was alive. And safe.

Though Mila might not be.

They had a Digital Yandere in the machine—and this was no ordinary playthrough anymore.

It was a Mita game nested inside the Mita game.

Like Russian nesting dolls.

Only more unstable.
