Chapter 2055: -2014- A brief glimpse into the truth
"W-What is going on...?"
At the same time, Kurahashi Kyouko stared at the formation barrier that had appeared over all of Tokyo, her expression frozen in shock.
Clearly, everything before her had surpassed her understanding.
However, Kyouko was unaware that right beside her, Rozen was experiencing an exceptionally terrifying suppression.
The moment the formation barrier enveloped all of Tokyo, a tremendous force bore down on Rozen.
It was the entire power of the formation barrier concentrating on him.
The Onmyo Agency was using the formation barrier, channeling the power of the spiritual veins to suppress Rozen.
In ancient times, onmyouji often used this method to subdue malevolent spirits and even evil deities that threatened the human world. Now, Rozen was receiving the same treatment.
If it were any ordinary being, let alone a mere human, even a Phase 4-level Spiritual Disaster could be instantly sealed or exorcised without any suspense. Even divine or Buddha-like entities would likely have their powers weakened and be subjected to suppression.
Rozen, however, was protected by Kinu and Gyokuto, and the jutsuryoku flowing within him far exceeded the power of Tokyo's entire spiritual veins. As a result, he was not suppressed.
Instead, Kinu and Gyokuto's power was slightly weakened, causing a reduction in the effects of both familiars. Moreover, since the spiritual veins were now entirely under enemy control and Tokyo was completely enveloped by the formation barrier, Rozen could no longer use Space Manipulation Magic, not even Far Step.
That said, Rozen was only affected to this extent.
If others found out that a force strong enough to suppress an evil deity could only have such a minimal impact on Rozen, they would be utterly shocked.
"What a grand display."
Rozen gave the same evaluation as Yashamaru.
It couldn't be helped—even Rozen himself hadn't expected his enemies to view him as a divine-level threat and resort to such extreme measures.
However, on second thought, it seemed only natural.
After all, his enemies knew of his immense power and that he commanded two deities. Their decision to employ such divine-tier methods against him was entirely reasonable.
The question was...
"Do they really have the capability for this?"
To set up a formation barrier on this scale and channel the power of all of Tokyo's spiritual veins was no easy feat.
In ancient times, onmyouji attempting something like this had to install intricate spells at key points of the spiritual veins, station numerous personnel at these locations, and conduct massive rituals. The number of practitioners required was not just in the dozens or hundreds, but at least thousands.
Without such elaborate preparation, how could one hope to suppress an evil deity?
Did the Onmyo Agency even have that many onmyouji?
Even if they did, how could they spare so many while still keeping their forces operational?
Furthermore, setting up something on this scale required immense effort and time. How had the Onmyo Agency prepared it in such a short period?
"Could it be...?"
With Thought Acceleration and Thought Partitioning supporting him, countless hypotheses flashed through Rozen's mind in an instant—until he uncovered a truth.
Unfortunately, now was not the time for such considerations.
"Rumble...!"
With a tremor shaking the ground, the enemy was rapidly closing in.
Rozen swept his gaze across the area, seeing countless Rinno and Yasha encircling him.
This was not just Shigeoka Shunsuke's doing.
No—it wasn't only his doing.
A fleet of Onmyo Agency transport and operational vehicles appeared one after another at both ends of the street, heading straight toward them.
Clearly, these Nioh and Yasha were not just Shigeoka Shunsuke's shikigami—they were also the shikigami of the Magic Crimes Investigation Department and the Exorcism Bureau.
"He's there!"
"Surround him!"
"Don't let him escape!"
The Magic Crimes Investigation Department and the Exorcism Bureau shouted commands, directing the Nioh, Yasha, Swallow Whip, and Cat Bind to close in on them.
Using his Wise Eye, Rozen quickly assessed the enemy's numbers and then fixed his gaze on one particular vehicle.
Inside that vehicle, Rozen "saw" a familiar spiritual energy.
"So things really have changed, Tsuchimikado Akikan."
Inside the car, Amami Daizen watched as Rozen grew closer, observing the terrifying spiritual energy surging from his body, his pupils contracting.
"Grandpa Amami...!"
A panicked Kyouko seemed to notice Amami Daizen's arrival as well, her voice trembling.
Amami Daizen had been a close associate of Kurahashi Miyo for years, making him a long-familiar elder to Kyouko as well.
Kyouko had likely never imagined that she would one day stand as an enemy of Amami Daizen and be targeted for arrest.
Because of this, she was shaken but clenched her teeth, struggling to steady her mind.
The moment she decided to become Rozen's shikigami, she had already accepted such consequences. Even though this day had come much sooner than expected and the current situation was beyond anything she had imagined, Kyouko was determined to grit her teeth and push through.
Her resolve naturally did not escape Rozen's notice.
"It seems we should retreat."
Rozen made his decision instantly.
If only for the sake of his devoted shikigami, he needed to retreat.
"Come forth, Hokuto."
Rozen called upon his familiar.
A surge of golden light immediately burst forth like a tide.
"Boom—!"
With an explosion-like impact, the vehicles surrounding the hotel were struck from the side by a brilliant golden flash.
Nioh and Yasha were sent flying.
Vehicles flipped over instantly, drawing screams from the Magic Crimes Investigation Department and Exorcism Bureau members.
Swallow Whips and Cat Bind were also blown away, revealing the true form of the golden talisman.
"———!!!"
Hokuto roared skyward, transforming into a soaring dragon, swiftly gliding through the air toward the distance.
Atop Hokuto's head, Rozen stood, holding Kyouko in his arms. A newly donned black cloak billowed in the wind, fluttering dramatically.
"Break through the siege! Do not engage in unnecessary combat!"
Rozen issued his command to Hokuto.
"—!"
With a mighty draconic roar, Hokuto responded. Though there was a hint of reluctance in his tone—as if lamenting the missed opportunity to wreak havoc—he nonetheless obeyed Rozen's order and charged straight ahead.
"Escaping?"
Seated inside the car, Amami Daizen watched the scene unfold, deep in thought. After a moment, he let out a bitter smile.
"Pursue them!"
Amami Daizen gave the order, and the Onmyo Agency's convoy immediately resumed their pursuit, leading their respective shikigami in a chase down the street.
That day, Tokyo fell into complete chaos.
"The Onmyo Agency has issued an emergency warning. The Onmyo Agency has issued an emergency warning. Due to a major jujutsu-related crime, all Tokyo residents are advised to evacuate to designated shelters."
"I repeat, the Onmyo Agency has issued an emergency warning..."
Similar alerts echoed through radio and television broadcasts, sending Tokyo's citizens into a state of panic.
People ran in terror, desperately seeking refuge.
Traffic violations surged as drivers scrambled to flee, causing massive gridlock on the streets.
Screams erupted throughout the city—chaos reigned.
The sight of Onmyo Agency vehicles, convoys, and entire battalions moving frantically only heightened the tension.
On one particular street, civilians screamed in terror.
Because, above them, a divine dragon was soaring at high speed, pursued by a formation of Onmyo Agency vehicles.
