Miracle Summoner

Chapter 1950: -1909- [ Jealous ]

At this time, Jeanne [Alter] was roaming the outskirts of the town.

"Tch…"

Watching the Mountain People working with heartfelt smiles in the town, Jeanne [Alter] didn't feel warmth. Instead, she clicked her tongue in irritation.

This annoyance had started growing ever since she saw Bedivere and observed the state of every Mountain Person in the City of Mountains.

Especially when she saw them praying devoutly before meals and water, thanking the Lord for granting them such a wonderful meal. Jeanne [Alter] felt an overwhelming urge to burn everything to the ground.

Jeanne [Alter] couldn't bring herself to turn a blind eye to such a scene.

"Thank the Lord? What idiots!"

Jeanne [Alter] muttered irritably to herself.

"If not for that man, you'd have nothing. Yet you keep thanking your so-called God over and over. Do you really believe these things were granted by Him?"

Her tone was harsh, dripping with contempt.

"Ah, this Singularity really is the worst. A holy land, a holy city, faith, gods—it's all just a combination of the worst and the worst. Utterly terrible. Why did I even follow those little Chaldean brats here?"

"Refusing that cold-blooded woman's invitation was definitely the right decision. Everything here is just infuriating."

"Maybe I should join the Lion King, help her burn this place to ashes. That doesn't sound half bad."

Jeanne [Alter] tried to vent her frustrations with her cruel words and attitude, but it was no use.

In the end, she could only laugh at herself.

"I don't even know why I was brought back in this era. Might as well let me disappear already."

After saying this, she felt slightly better.

But…

"Since you're already here, you might as well stay. The great Dragon Witch can't just run away from this minor inconvenience by dying, can she?"

As a voice, seemingly deliberate in its phrasing, echoed, Jeanne [Alter] stopped in her tracks.

Without turning around, she already knew who it was.

"So, it's you?" Jeanne [Alter] turned to face the slowly approaching Rozen, letting out a cold snort. "Why aren't you with your obedient little Shielder, your clingy Assassin, or chatting with that idiot king about war and politics? What are you wandering around here for?"

Jeanne [Alter] couldn't say a single pleasant word.

"Oh?" Rozen raised an eyebrow, smirking faintly. "Do I look like someone who enjoys troublesome things?"

"Don't you?" Jeanne [Alter] sneered dismissively. "Everywhere you go, you're surrounded by beautiful Servants. Back in France, didn't you love using those annoying little tricks to fight against us?"

In her eyes, Rozen was precisely such a person—too busy making plans with Artoria [Alter] and others to spare any time for wandering around aimlessly.

Unfortunately, she had misunderstood.

"I don't dislike trouble, but I don't go looking for it either. Right now, this isn't about war; it's about ensuring the people here can live peacefully. I'd rather not meddle in such matters. It's best to leave it to the locals to handle. I'll enjoy my leisure."

Rozen spoke nonchalantly.

"Living peacefully, huh?" Jeanne [Alter] looked at him as if he were an idiot. "Do you really think this kind of thing matters?"

It wasn't surprising for her to think so.

"Look at them. You're the one who gave them everything they need to live peacefully, yet they only know how to thank God and the Lord. Don't you feel this is all for nothing?" Jeanne [Alter] said with biting sarcasm. "And don't forget, this is a Singularity. Once it's repaired, everything here will return to normal. They won't remember you, nor will they have anything they gained here. Even if they work themselves to exhaustion, it'll all eventually disappear. You're all such fools, smiling while working so hard for something so meaningless. What a joke."

Her words were more than harsh—they were cruel.

But undeniably, they were true.

When this Singularity is repaired, everything will revert to its original state. The Mountain People won't remember Rozen and his companions, nor will they retain what they've obtained here.

"All of this is nothing but a fleeting illusion. No matter how beautiful it is now, it will eventually disappear. Yet you idiots are so serious, working so hard to protect it. Are your brains broken?"

Jeanne [Alter] spoke mercilessly.

However, beneath her words, Rozen detected a trace of complexity.

When considering Jeanne [Alter]'s situation, it became clear. Rather than despising everything, she had already resigned herself to fate.

A fleeting illusion?

Wasn't she the same?

Jeanne [Alter] herself was an existence destined to disappear. Naturally, she projected her emotions onto the people and things around her, growing increasingly agitated.

And amid this agitation, seeing these people praying devoutly and worshipping only added salt to the wound.

After all, Jeanne [Alter] harbored only hatred, not gratitude, for God and the divine.

This hatred stemmed from Jeanne d'Arc herself, the saint.

The saint burned alive at the stake, who prayed and believed until her dying breath. Yet, was she saved?

She wasn't.

Instead, those who called themselves God's followers condemned her as a witch and subjected her to religious judgment.

To Jeanne [Alter], all of this was the greatest irony, the most offensive sight, and it was no wonder she felt irritated and furious.

"Even that knight is the same." Jeanne [Alter] said without hesitation. "He's practically dead, on the verge of disappearing, his body falling apart, yet he still clings to life. I can't fathom what's going on in his head."

Her words left Rozen momentarily stunned before he understood.

"I see." Rozen sighed. "So, you've already noticed Bedivere's condition?"

"Of course." Jeanne [Alter] said coldly. "Though he hides it well, probably thanks to some extraordinary protections from a skilled Caster, I could tell the moment I saw him. That guy is just like me—he's destined to disappear, to die."

It wasn't that Jeanne [Alter] saw through Bedivere's disguise but that she instinctively sensed his condition as someone who shared the same fate.

Because of this, she found Bedivere so detestable.

The reason was simple.

"You're annoyed at him, annoyed at everything here. But in truth, you're just jealous, aren't you?"

Rozen directly exposed Jeanne [Alter]'s feelings.
