Chapter 77: Chapter 77
Xu Yuan looked around and noticed that all the trees in the dungeon were dwarf trees, easy to chop without climbing. But what caught his attention even more were the zombies—they were carrying iron axes and pickaxes.
"This is cutting off the player's escape routes," Xu Yuan thought. Players usually build pedicure sheds to avoid zombies, but this dungeon completely eliminates that strategy. These zombies are like a demolition team, equipped with iron tools, making them more dangerous than most players.
Xu Yuan couldn't help but think about how other players would handle this nightmare-level dungeon. Staying in trees wasn't an option. Building shelters wouldn't work either. But there are always workarounds.
He drank a bottle of stealth potion. His body slowly turned transparent. The zombie army beneath the tree, unable to see him, lost their target and dispersed. Xu Yuan jumped down from the tree, carefully avoiding the zombies. He dug up some earth and built a pillar three blocks high. Then he knocked out the bottom block.
"If unsupported blocks collapse in this dungeon, then this wouldn't work." But after removing the bottom block, the pillar stayed intact. Xu Yuan jumped onto it and confirmed it held. He felt relieved. At least he could still gain elevation to stay safe.
But it wasn't a solution. Dozens of fully armed zombies surrounded the area. Even if he stayed up high, defeating them all wouldn't be easy.
"Can I just bypass the zombies and cut straight to the boss?" he thought. "Usually, killing the boss clears the dungeon. Maybe the mobs don't need to be killed."
With that thought, Xu Yuan stopped worrying about the iron-armored zombies. He drank another stealth potion and moved through the forest using his map. The forest was dense with zombies, even near torches.
After walking north for ten minutes, he found an invisible barrier. Forcing through it would exit the dungeon. He turned west, but it was the same—no way forward. The entire map was a forest surrounded by invisible walls.
There was no boss lair, no boss signs at all.
"Is there no boss?" Xu Yuan wondered. That didn't seem right. "If all you had to do was survive mobs, then the nightmare difficulty would be too simple."
"Corpse Tide dungeon... corpse tide..." Then it hit him. "The name implies waves. There would be waves of zombie attacks. Maybe the real boss appears after players survive wave after wave."
Realizing this, Xu Yuan exited the dungeon. It had taken him nearly an hour.
Outside, the World Channel was in chaos. Players who chose easy and hard modes were all complaining.
"Official, you told me this was an easy dungeon?"
"This is insane. The zombies have tools! I built a shelter and it was destroyed in minutes!"
"I picked hard mode and some zombies had iron armor!"
"Has anyone tried nightmare mode?"
"Nightmare? Are you crazy? At night, dozens of zombies surround you!"
"I built a shelter, zombies dang dang..."
"Who's knocking on my window..."
Despite the chaos, players accidentally provided useful info. In easy mode, zombies had no armor but still had tools. In hard mode, some had iron armor. But in nightmare mode, they were fully armed.
Xu Yuan returned to his room, where Ken was waiting.
"I heard from players on the World Channel that this dungeon isn't meant for humans."
Xu Yuan smiled. "Fortunately, it's not difficult."
Ken nodded. He trusted Xu Yuan's strength. What others found hard, Xu Yuan saw as simple.
"I've heard there are three dungeon modes. Which one did you choose?"
Most players chose easy mode. Some confident ones picked hard. Nightmare was avoided.
Xu Yuan replied calmly. "Oh, nightmare mode."
Ken was stunned. He didn't know whether to be amazed or terrified. Xu Yuan had called nightmare mode not difficult.
"What's wrong?"
Ken smiled awkwardly. "I saw others saying it's extremely hard. Zombies have tools. Shelters get demolished. Players can't survive even two minutes at night."
Xu Yuan nodded. "In Nightmare Mode, zombies are fully armored in iron and carry iron weapons."
Ken was shocked. "And you still say it's not difficult?"
"Oh, by the way, has anyone said they couldn't use their equipment?"
Ken thought for a moment. "No one mentioned that."
Xu Yuan nodded. "In Nightmare Mode, you can't use your own gear."
Ken was dumbfounded. A dungeon where you can't use your own equipment, and it's that hard? No wonder it's nightmare level. But Xu Yuan still said it wasn't hard?
"You... have you already figured out how to clear it?"
Xu Yuan nodded.
Ken took a deep breath. He had to accept that Xu Yuan wasn't an ordinary person.
"It should take a lot of manpower, right?"
Ken assumed Xu Yuan's plan needed a team. With no access to gear, they would need a lot of backup.
Xu Yuan shook his head with a smile. "No, I'll solo it."
Ken nearly fainted. He had already told himself not to treat Xu Yuan like a normal person, but this was beyond belief.
"Are you kidding me?"
"It's nightmare mode... So many zombies with iron armor... and those are just the mobs... Who knows what the boss is like..."
Xu Yuan replied seriously. "No kidding. It's not difficult. I can solo it."
