Chapter 21: The flame of love

The Evening light shone down on a quiet Japanese suburbs as two figures walked down the street.

The orange sunset illuminated their bodies as it matched the taller boy's hair and complimented the short girls glistening pink skin.

As Harue and Mina made their way down the street closing in on Mina's house.

"Today was certainly wild!" Harue suddenly spoke trying to break the silence that had consumed them.

They had not talked at all during the ride from the train stop and the walk they always share to her house.

'Guess Mina must be shy, as while she can dish out teasing she herself is quite weak to it' he thought amused about today scene that everyone saw.

He was broken out of his thought when Mina answered.

"Yeah, My Parents are certainly going to be worried about what happened!" She replied softly.

"Don't worry too much about it they were certainly informed by the school, so they probably know about what happened."

Harue spoke trying to calm her nerves.

They continued walking while having some conversation as Mina began to open up and returned to her chatter-box self.

When they finally arrived before her home.

As they approached her front door Harue turned to her.

"Well, here we are," he said, glancing at Mina.

Mina grinned, her usual energy still lingering despite the late hour. "Thanks for accompanying me Harue!"

"No problem," he replied, watching her walk ahead to push the door open. But before she could step in completely, she paused, looking back at him with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Then, before he could react, she leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. It was barely more than a peck, but it was warm—quick yet lingering in its own way.

Harue froze.

Mina giggled at his stunned expression, then rushing up the steps inside her house. "Night, hotshot!" she called, throwing a wink over her shoulder before slipping inside and slamming the door shut behind her.

Harue blinked. His lips still burned.

"…What just happened?"

(Mina's POV)

As soon as Mina shut the door behind her, she pressed her back against it, her heart pounding like she had just finished a high-speed chase.

"Oh my god," she whispered, hands flying up to cover her face. Her fingers tingled—probably from the rush of adrenaline—but her lips curled into a wide, uncontrollable grin.

She had actually done it. She kissed him. Well, not on a full on kiss or anything dramatic, but still. She kissed Harue.

Biting her lip, she peeked through the peephole, catching a glimpse of him still sitting in front of her door, probably processing what just happened. The way he just froze had her nearly bursting into laughter right then and there.

"Priceless," she murmured to herself.

Pushing off the door, she shook off her school shoes as she made her way upstairs ignoring the confused look on her mom who was expecting her to great her. The second she entered her room, she flopped onto her bed, hugging a pillow to her chest.

"Okay, Mina," she muttered. "Play it cool tomorrow. Act normal."

…Yeah, that was not going to happen.

She squealed in embarrassment as she hugged one of her plushies tightly remembering what she had done.

The handsome face of the boy she had liked ever since she could remember flashed in her mind.

But a mature voice broke her out of her fantasies.

"Well you have some explaining to do missy?" Her mom was leaning on the door frame with her arms folded and a questioning gaze.

But just as she was about to answer her a notification sound rang out from her phone.

As she quickly picked it up, she saw that Harue had messaged her.

[ Hey Mina, you down to go out tomorrow just the two of us?]

[Yes :) ] She quickly replied as her smile got even bigger.

Mina then turned to her mom who had one of her eyebrows raised.

She then explained to the woman who she was certainly going to force to lend her one of her purses tomorrow.

...…..

Harue smiled as he put his phone away after coordinating with Mina the time for their date tomorrow.

Yes date.

He decided that it's finally time to pursue Mina. 

All this time he had been undecided about their relationship thinking that she didn't really like him in that manner.

But seeing her bold actions today made him decide to man up and be the one to court her.

He didn't want to be one of those people who just wait for love to fall out of the sky so he was going to try and get the girl he liked.

As he walked his gait was a bit more relaxed than before as a calm smile made its way to his face.

After a couple of minutes he finally made it to his house.

He opened the door and called out to his parents.

"Mom, Dad I'm home!"

Harue squatted down as he took off his shoes and put them in the shoe rack next to him.

Replacing them with a pair of comfy slippers.

"Welcome back!" He heard them both reply from the living room as he made his way to them.

As he entered the living room he saw his dad on the couch watching the news which were showing today's attack on UA.

His Mom was preparing dinner but she still couldn't rid of her worried look on her face as she turned to look at him.

"Harue" his dad called out as he got up and made his way to him.

Standing in front of his child, he couldn't stop a nostalgic look appearing on his face.

Looking at his son standing at 6'2 / 187 cm , two inches taller than even him, Akio is reminded how much his boy had grown.

Bright orange hair just like his mother and steel-grey eyes similar to his.

Harue seeing his dad just staring at him is a little nervous as he stuttered out.

"Dad I-" He is cut off as his father places his hand on his shoulder.

"Harue, we already know about the incident…. The school had informed us even before the news reported it."

As Harue swallowed his word and nodded as his dad continued.

"Your mom and I were prepared for you to encounter danger in the future when you told us you wanted to be a hero and your enrollment to UA."

Akio paused for a moment as his gaze grew softer and his voice grew a bit hoarse. "We'd just…. We'd just thought that it would be a couple of more years before that happened."

He then began to pat his son on his shoulder as he continued.

"So promise to us… that you will take care of yourself and never recklessly put yourself into danger."

"Yes dad!" Harue promised with a resolute look on his face.

"Good." Akio looked at him with a proud gaze.

"My babies!!"

They were suddenly broken out of the father and son bonding moment as a loud voice cried out and a figure jumps at them.

"My babies!!" Reina repeated as she hugged both of them tightly while tears dripped down her cheeks.

Both of them look at her with slight embarrassment but recuperated the hug.

After a moment they break up and Harue goes to his room to change and Reina to finish making dinner.

(A couple of minutes later)

As they were eating and talking, well mostly Harue talking about what had happened ( of course not the whole truth )

He suddenly stops and with a casual tone says to his dad.

"Dad can I have some money tomorrow as I'm taking Mina out on a date."

Both of his parents froze for a bit as his mom suddenly screams out in happiness.

"Kyaaa~"
