Chapter 9: MHA : Chapter 9 : House Arrest III
*Knock Knock Knock!*
It was now November, snow was just starting to fall on the city of Musutafu as the holidays approached, 3 months until the UA entrance exam and Peter's 7th month under house arrest.
At first, the isolation had been incredibly boring, but Peter made due. Texts and calls with Rumi and Midoriya coming over to hanging out frequently kept him busy enough. But Peter kept himself busy while alone with working out, he had to use mass adjusting weights due to the whole super strength thing, and even learned how to breakdance and do card tricks.
Overall, he's been both bored and busy.
School was going fine, and support gear was going even better. His web-shooters were at MK. 4 now, isn't that crazy? Imagine if he had an actual budget.
*Knock Knock Knock!*
Oh, yeah! There was someone at the door! It was rude to leave someone out in the snow right?
Without looking away from the TV, he shot a web at the doorknob and opened the door. Over the past few months, he'd gotten used to having his web-shooters on to help him with random tasks or when he didnt want to get up for something.
The door gently swung open, revealing none other than Shota Aizawa wearing casual winter clothes along with his signature scarf. The man had that same kind of tired expression Peter had gotten accustomed to.
What Peter came to find out, was that Aizawa would show up at his house once a month for a checkup and to make sure the conditions of the deal weren't being violated.
If Peter didnt know any better he'd think the man enjoyed spending time with him.
Wait.
Did he?
Nah.
"Scarf man! How are you, man?" Peter got up with a friendly wave and a greeting, the man walked inside the small home and sat at the kitchen table. Normally he'd ask a couple questions as a borderline interrogation and leave.
"I've been well, Parker." The man nodded, during the first couple visits he wouldn't even respond. You're making progress, Parker! He's gonna absolutely love you soon!
"Tea? I've been learning how to make some during my off time, which is all my time now but whatever." The brunette asked, taking a seat across the man. He declined with a shake of the head and placed his elbows on the table.
"New web-shooters?" He asked, his eyes glancing at the metal devices on the teen's wrist.
"Yeah, I've been watching a couple videos on random heroes who had capture weapons and trying to adopt some of those techniques, you know? Funny enough, you were one of those I watched." He chuckled.
For a split second, maybe even less than that, Aizawa's lips curled upwards by about a nanometer. Lucky for him, Peter didn't notice.
"Good, while you have great abilities you need more training." The man said in a dry tone, he ran a hand through his long hair, it was styled in a ponytail.
"Are you proud of my progress, scarf man?" The boy joked, he only got an eye roll and a huff in response.
Oh man, he was proud!
"Anything else I should know about? I feel like it is best if I don't have to deal with you longer than I have to, problem child."
'Problem Child', Aizawa's very own 'affectionate' nickname for Peter and Rumi. It was one of the signs that showed him that Aizawa was at least starting to like them the tiniest bit.
"Nah, not really. I've been laying around and preparing for the exam, that's about it. I gotta do some Christmas shopping online for May and B-" His expression fell at the slip-up, the mood souring quickly.
It hadn't been the first time it had happened. For Peter to think Ben was still with them before catching himself, maybe he wasn't used to him not being there yet.
"Yeah, Christmas shopping for May…" He nodded while giving a dry chuckle mostly to himself.
"Sucks, doesn't it?" The voice of Aizawa spoke, Peter had nearly forgotten the hero was there.
"Huh?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. Peter's eyes widened at seeing Aizawa's expression.
Instead of that tired, annoyed, and apathetic face the man always carried, he wore a sad smile with his eyes downcast, as if reminiscing.
"Thinking someone's still here. It happens to me too, Parker." The man started to get up from his seat at the table and put on his coat, getting ready to walk out the door.
Peter didn't know what to say. That might have been the first time he'd seen the scarf-wearing hero be so… genuine. Knowing that Aizawa did care about something and told Peter so the teen could relate to someone brought him a sense of comfort.
It was as if Aizawa was finely showing that he somehow cared about the American.
The teen gave a chuckle and stood up to see Aizawa off. He opened the door and the man started to walk out and back into the chilly night.
As the man got further and further down the hall of Peter's floor and closer to the stairs, Peter decided to do something he'd never do again if he could prevent.
"Hey, Aizawa?"
He used his name, not bothering for a funny nickname to annoy him. The man stopped in his tracks and turned back with an eyebrow raised.
"Thanks for what you said, man. I really appreciate it." The boy said with a small smile, the hero only nodded and started to walk away once more.
Peter noticed the ghost of a smile on his face before he turned around.
Oh, he definitely cared about him.
...
"Hey, sorry it's been a while since I've come visit. Things have been crazy, you know?" The brunette gave a small smile, he received no response.
It was February 26th now, winter was finally coming to an end in Japan. Today was the day, the day Peter had waited for the past 10 months.
The UA entrance exam, he'd be there early but he had something to do first.
"I made a couple friends, I feel like you would like Midoriya, a bit shy but super nice and earnest. I don't know about Rumi, but she's good to have around once you get past all her crazy, you know?"
The cold wind blew, the boy's conversation partner stayed silent.
He gave a sigh and scratched his cheek. "May got a promotion last month. She's been working her butt off lately, so it's well deserved. I threw her a little party with badly baked cupcakes I made as a celebration, she seemed to like it anyway guessing on the amount she cried." He laughed a little.
Silence once again.
"Finally got out of house arrest today. Right on the day of the entrance exam, convenient, huh? Aizawa grumbled what I assume was a pep talk to me earlier, he likes me under that grumpy personality, I bet you'd like him, too. Oh, and don't tell him I called him Aizawa."
Silence.
He checked his phone and saw the time, 1 hour before the exam. He couldn't afford to be late today.
"Look at the time, I gotta go catch my train! I'll be back as soon as I can and tell you about how it went, alright?"
Peter started to get up from his spot on the grass beside a grey headstone. It looked as if it was cleaned regularly. He placed a hand on the cold stone before drawing it back and placing it into his pocket for warmth
"Wish me luck, Ben. I promise I'll make you proud." The boy told the headstone as he started to jog out of the cemetery, leaving it behind.
