Merchant From Earth in the Magical World

Chapter 88: Handing out Candy_1

Yan Xing led his retinue and finally arrived at Nuta City. Thanks to Hibel having informed the city gate guards in advance, they avoided excessive trouble despite the accompanying Swamp Werewolves.

However, the officer commanding the gate did not give Yan Xing a warm welcome. A human Lord who recruits barbarians from the Swamp Tribe must surely be a barbarian from some remote place himself. To associate with a despised race is to invite contempt.

Had Knight Hibel not been the City Lord's youngest daughter, the Duchy Soldiers at the gate would have certainly stripped the armor off these Werewolves and expelled them all.

The armor on these Werewolves was truly exquisite. They must have stolen it! And what are those things the Werewolves are riding? Contraptions with two wheels that speed along the stone road without falling over!

Yan Xing, clad in full plate armor, rode a magnificent Akhal-Teke stallion, itself clad in barding, with great pomp through the city gate. He entered Nuta City under the varied gazes of the Duchy Soldiers.

The city roads were paved with roughly dressed bluestone blocks. Though the bicycles bounced a bit on them, their effective suspension systems made riding far more comfortable than on the grasslands.

The arrival of the Swamp Werewolf Warriors in the city was immediately noticed by pedestrians.

Frightened commoners scattered, taking refuge in the houses lining the road, while warriors and mercenaries vigilantly drew their weapons to protect their masters and employers.

The streets fell silent, everyone holding their breath as they watched the strange procession advance down the middle of the road.

The Knight leading them exuded an air of grandeur. His armor, gleaming like a mirror, reflected the sunlight. The aura of a powerful individual made the decorative ribbons on his armor flutter audibly, and Magic Power seeped from the gaps in the plates, casting shifting glows. His steed's breed was indiscernible, but its aesthetically pleasing physique and noble temperament clearly marked it as belonging to a most prestigious lineage.

This Knight undoubtedly comes from an extraordinary background, surely the scion of some noble family. But how could such an accomplished Knight associate with barbarians from the Swamp?

The authentic version is on M|V|LEMPY_R.

Seeing those Swamp Werewolves, who looked as if they'd been rolling in mud, the crowd's estimation of this Knight plummeted.

A person's status was heavily judged by their appearance and attire, but that was merely superficial. The true key indicator of one's standing was their retinue. If their retainers were high-ranking, the lord was considered noble even if plainly dressed. Conversely, if their retainers were low-ranking, then no matter how grand the lord themselves might appear, their origins were deemed common. Of course, the race of one's retinue could also add or subtract points. Having an Elf Sword Dancer was definitely more prestigious than an Orc Ogre.

The Swamp Tribe occupied the very bottom of the social hierarchy, with Werewolves being the lowest even among them. If they weren't to be despised, who was? One would be better off with a retinue of peasants bearing dung forks than with a group of Swamp Werewolves. He must be a crude, barbaric Knight from some remote rural area. That armor and warhorse of his? Definitely plundered!

This was the first impression most people had upon seeing Yan Xing.

Of course, a Knight was still a Knight, and he brought many followers. While their quality might be questionable, their quantity was substantial. Ordinary citizens might look down on him in their hearts due to a sense of racial superiority. Nevertheless, they still adhered to their societal class and paid their respects to the Knight Lord walking down the middle of the road. They stole furtive glances at the bicycles ridden by the Werewolves, wondering in their hearts… How come they don't fall over?

Having been in this world for some time, this was the first occasion Yan Xing had encountered such a large crowd. He had never imagined that bringing Werewolves into the city would lead to him being quietly scorned as a rustic Knight. Watching the commoners on both sides of the road bow to him, Yan Xing felt extremely pleased. Blood is thicker than water, he thought.

He then noticed a rather attractive young lady from a prominent family lifting the curtain of a nearby carriage to peek at him. With his armor's ambient lighting activated and its internal fan running, Yan Xing felt his already unassailable handsomeness reach new heights, surely captivating the young lady's heart. He waved at her, startling her into hurriedly dropping the curtain.

So shy...

Pleased with himself, Yan Xing continued to ride forward, head held high, chest out. Then, recalling something, he turned to Donna, who was riding beside him, and said, "Donna, distribute the candies I brought to the crowd welcoming us."

"Yes, my Lord," Donna replied.

Donna dismounted, along with the other maidservants and accompanying peasant attendants. From the carriage, they took out some milk candies—they were indeed the 'Great White Save' brand. Yan Xing had bought them cheaply on an e-commerce platform. Since they weren't for his own consumption, he figured skimping a bit was unavoidable.

Donna, with the maidservants and peasant attendants, began handing out the milk candies to the people on both sides of the road. Initially, people didn't know what these thin paper-wrapped, milky-white, stone-like objects were. When Donna and her group explained that they were edible candies, someone cautiously placed one in their mouth.

In an instant, a never-before-tasted flavor, a blend of creamy milk and honeyed sweetness, washed over them, seeming capable of melting one's very being. As the candy touched their tongues, everyone involuntarily emitted sounds of pure satisfaction. They had never experienced such blissful sweets, a delight that coursed through their entire bodies, feeling like a gift from the heavens themselves.

Everyone reveled in the delightful sensations, expressing heartfelt thanks to those who had given them such delicious treats.

The maidservants and attendants distributing the candies said, "You should thank our Lord. Lord Yan Xing is generous and compassionate!"

"Lord Yan Xing is generous and compassionate!"

All who praised Yan Xing received a few more candies, drawing even more people into the chorus of adulation.

"Lord Yan Xing is generous and compassionate!"

In a short time, the area near Nuta City's north gate teemed with people. Word spread of a generous lord distributing delicious candies for free, and more and more people swarmed the area. Everyone stretched out their hands, chanting the "slogan" in hopes of receiving the widely praised sweets. The street became so packed it was impassable.

The Werewolves formed a living wall to hold back the surging crowd.

Yan Xing then asked Donna for a bag of milk candies and, smiling, joyfully tossed handfuls into the throng.

Before long, their actions drew the City Defense Force.

"Disperse, everyone disperse!" the leading mounted officer shouted, directing his soldiers to drive away the civilians blocking the road. Reaching Yan Xing and observing his oddly assorted retinue, he demanded, "Who are you? Why are there Swamp Werewolves in your party? Who allowed you to enter the city?"

Yan Xing recalled the officer at the gate mentioning Hibel's name when they entered. It seemed the Knight riding the Royal Griffon whom they had met outside the city held significant status.

Thus, Yan Xing replied, "I am Lord Yan Xing of the Eternal Domain, and these Werewolves are my retainers. As for who allowed us into the city? It was Knight Hibel. You can verify that with her."
