Chapter 158: Trade with the Goblin (Thank you to Lord Xiong Paopao for the reward) - 1
As Yan Xing prepared to delve deeper into the Thunderous Swamp, Goblin Gaga sent a message: The magic energy generator was ready, and all the accompanying Low-Level Magical Puppets were also ready.
It was indeed perfect timing!
In Yan Xing's construction plan, a large amount of equipment needed an energy source, especially the information network, which required a stable and reliable energy source for its operation.
Solar energy and gasoline generators couldn't meet the demands.
Upon receiving the news that the magic energy generator was completed, Yan Xing immediately drove a truck to Nuta City.
In the Goblin Alchemy Store, Yan Xing met Goblin Gaga once again.
Gaga, however, looked very unfriendly.
Yan Xing didn't care about Goblin Gaga's mood today. Anxious to transport the magic energy generator, he asked, "Mr. Gaga, where is the magic energy generator? I've brought a truck to see if I can take it all in one go."
Gaga didn't mention the magic energy generator. Instead, he took out a watch from a storage compartment in the armrest of his alchemical chair.
In a very unpleasant tone, he said, "Knight Yan Xing, I believe you have committed fraud in our transaction. This watch I bought from the store you opened in Nuta City costs a mere 500 God-given gold coins.
And yet you want to trade this watch for my magic energy generator?
I need an explanation, otherwise... you will find yourself on the unwelcome list of the Goblin Alchemy Factory.
No goblin merchant will trade with you again."
Yan Xing's Eternal Commerce Guild had first opened a watch store upon establishing its presence in Nuta City.
With an endorsement from Miss Hibel, the City Lord's daughter, the entire Nuta City nobility learned of this alchemical product that allowed one to wear time on their wrist.
The exquisitely designed watches sparked a considerable trend in Nuta City. Yan Xing's watch store led the fashion scene from its opening day, sought after by nobles and wealthy merchants alike.
The price of 500 God-given gold coins was also acceptable.
Most nobles couldn't afford Ice Jade Porcelain tableware, but they could still manage to come up with 500 God-given gold coins.
The watches from Eternal Domain sold extremely well, and soon every influential figure in Nuta City sported one. Shrewd individuals even bought several; whether for gifting or resale, they were rare and high-class items.
Goblin Gaga's alchemy store was the leader in Nuta City's alchemy sector, so he was naturally aware of the craze for alchemical watches.
The 500 God-given gold coins price tag per piece nearly made him cough up blood in anger.
The magic energy generator he'd manufactured for Yan Xing... if valued in God-given gold coins... was worth at least twenty thousand!
But the trade contract was already signed. Goblin Gaga, feeling thoroughly swindled, could only grit his teeth and accept the loss.
Goblin merchants were greedy, but they valued their credibility.
During this delivery, Goblin Gaga, fuming, confronted Yan Xing, brandishing the watch he had bought for 500 God-given gold coins and demanding an explanation.
He was determined to let him know the consequences of deceiving a goblin.
Yan Xing glanced at the watch in Goblin Gaga's hand with disdain. "Such a low-grade alchemical watch? I imagine most prominent figures in Nuta City own one.
Me... as the Lord of Eternal Domain and owner of the Eternal Commerce Guild, wearing such a watch would be beneath my status.
How could I possibly trade such a low-grade alchemical item for your magic energy generator?"
Hearing Yan Xing repeatedly call it a "low-grade alchemical item," Goblin Gaga's accusatory momentum instantly vanished.
This was the same 'low-grade alchemical item' that, when he had tried to open one, he couldn't figure out its workings at all. He could only detect that the small, button-like component inside stored electrical energy. The rest involved him staring blankly at the tiny components he had forcibly disassembled... utterly baffled and clueless. Once reassembled... the watches wouldn't work. For this reason, Gaga had bought several watches. After dismantling them, he remained completely mystified by their internal alchemical mechanisms, unable to find any insight. And now, these watches—which he couldn't comprehend even after taking so many apart—were being contemptuously dismissed by Yan Xing as 'low-grade alchemical products.' Goblin Gaga's face burned hotly. And if... these 'low-grade' alchemical watches were already so intricate, how breathtakingly complex must the 'high-grade' one on Yan Xing's wrist be? Gaga's heart filled with eager anticipation.
"I apologize, Knight Yan Xing." Goblin Gaga's attitude shifted dramatically. "Last time, when you allowed me to examine your watch, I didn't even manage to open it. Thus, I misunderstood you.
Please accept my apology, and then let us complete this trade.
The magic energy generator you requested is in the goblin underground warehouse outside the city, and 200 Low-Level Magical Puppets are also ready for you.
I can take you to the underground warehouse to inspect the goods right now."
Indeed, the last time Gaga had studied Yan Xing's watch for a full day, he hadn't managed to open it.
It was too precious, and it was about to become his. This was the only one; he couldn't bear the thought of damaging it.
The watches costing 500 God-given gold coins each hadn't received such delicate treatment.
"I accept your apology." Yan Xing extended his hand, casually flicking his wrist to show off the watch he wore. "Now, let's go see my magic energy generator."
In reality, the watch on his wrist was also a quartz watch, merely a more expensive model than the ones he sold.
It had cost several hundred Gold Coins!
As for the internal structure...
Of course, whatever Yan Xing said was high-grade was high-grade, and what he deemed low-grade was low-grade. Goblin Gaga probably didn't even know what an integrated circuit was; how could he possibly discern that they were essentially the same type of watch?
Yan Xing started to walk out of the store, but Goblin Gaga maneuvered his alchemical chair to the circular lifting platform in the center of the shop. "Please step onto this. We can reach the Goblin Alchemy Warehouse outside the city much faster via the underground passage."
Curious, Yan Xing stepped onto the circular platform. "You've dug a tunnel leading out of the city? How could Count Theodore permit such a thing?"
Goblin Gaga chuckled. "Count Theodore's authority doesn't extend to our Goblin Alchemy Factory. Besides, we would never allow anyone to use our tunnels for activities that could jeopardize the city's safety."
As Gaga spoke, the circular platform descended, as smoothly as an elevator.
After descending about ten meters, the platform began to move horizontally, gliding along a series of smooth tunnels.
The tunnels were built very spacious, their walls reinforced with stone blocks. Magic lamps, placed at regular intervals, illuminated the passageways.
Along the way, Yan Xing spotted several goblins on similar levitating platforms, directing a group of stone-made alchemy golems that were dragging large, wheeled wooden crates.
It was clear the goblins were utilizing their alchemy golems to construct an intricate underground transportation network beneath Nuta City.
The Goblin Alchemy Factory itself was situated somewhere underground, using these tunnels for the movement of personnel and materials.
He hadn't expected such a sight to lie beneath Nuta City.
Does Count Theodore know the goblins have dug an entire subterranean world beneath his city? He probably knows... But even if he does, what can he do about it?
