0029 – Her Killing Intent
The mess in the bedside table didn't seem like something Benny, who could tread carefully enough to step on a tree without leaving a trace, would do. Benny's style was to ensure that no one could find evidence of his presence.
This kind of crime was far from elegant. Instead of being related to Benny, it seemed more like the work of an inexperienced young thief.
Contemplating, Zoe temporarily set aside her suspicions of Benny, though not completely. She was definitely going to find the thief, which would make it easier to judge whether there was any connection between her and Benny.
As she continued to look around, she was relieved to find her old phone, which she used to record her situation, placed neatly on the table. The angle between the automatic pencil lead pressing down on the phone hadn't changed.
Zoe picked up the pencil lead and confirmed that the three notches on it matched those on her own pencil lead. Obviously, the old phone hadn't been touched at all.
The thief didn't even bother with the old flip phone from several years ago, let alone see its contents. She could rest assured that the contents of the memo hadn't been leaked.
However, this incident served as a wake-up call for Zoe.
Although she was very much a homebody and rarely caused trouble, it didn't mean that nothing could happen at home. There could still be special intruders like thieves.
Not causing trouble didn't mean trouble wouldn't come to find you. Just like the current situation. Zoe was definitely going to find the thief; otherwise, she wouldn't feel comfortable. So, perhaps she needed a relatively safer place to live?
But thinking about it, she realized that nowhere could be considered absolutely safe. Even in the depths of the mountains and forests, there was no guarantee that no one would come.
In fact, her current residence was sufficient. Today's incident was just a low-probability event. As long as she was at home, no one could sneak in silently. Even if she wasn't at home, the only thing worth considering was the old phone. A safer place to live could be put on the agenda temporarily, but there was no need to implement it immediately.
However, before that, it was best to carry the old phone with her. As soon as she thought of this, Zoe immediately put the old phone in her pocket.
With this, everything was basically foolproof. Her only Achille's heel. As long as she carried the old phone with her, she didn't need to worry about anyone breaking in. It also made it convenient for her to record anything she might need at any time.
However, not worrying didn't mean that she was going to let the ants into the dragon's den without permission. It was a kind of provocation and defiance.
Even if nothing was taken, the dragon would still be angry. Moreover, this damned thief had stolen the only valuable item in Zoe's home, the laptop, and left a threatening note.
Once Zoe confirmed that it was just a thief, her worried feelings dispersed. What followed wasn't blind anger but a mixture of calmness and anger. Losing the laptop didn't bother her much. What concerned her more was that someone had entered her territory without permission and dared to threaten her.
If it were her former self, she might have considered moving. But now... this kind of person needed to be punished. However, she couldn't let her own abilities attract attention.
With this in mind, there was hardly any hesitation.
Zoe changed into some clothes she rarely wore and opened the transparent world. The exciting world on the other side unfolded before her.
Following the scent left by the thief, Zoe pursued him straight out. She could track down troublemakers like mischievous kids and mice by scent, so naturally, she could track down this uninvited thief. It didn't take long.
"Let me see how bold you are," she muttered. A killing intent rose in Zoe's heart. While she intends to retain her good personality, it doesn't mean she's pushover.
