Me, Cynthia’s Childhood Friend, Got Trapped in Hisui

Chapter 3: Aggressive? A Hisuian Growlithe!

After some thorough scavenging, Xu Li's backpack was nearly full. As he looked at the overflowing inventory, both he and Axew shared a satisfying sense of harvest.

The surrounding space-time distortion began to fade as well, and gradually, the world returned to its natural state.

A salty sea breeze brushed against Xu Li's face. The scents of grass and foliage mingled with the fresh ocean air, carried gently by the wind into his lungs.

He silently took in the unfamiliar climate and tapped Axew, who was diligently wiping sweat from his brow.

"Let's go," Xu Li said. "We should find a place to sort out our loot."

He checked his direction and followed a gentle slope downhill.

Along the way, he spotted a pink Trubbish in its cloak-like form snoozing on a tree branch. In the distance, the unmistakable mating cries of Glameow and Purugly echoed faintly, while a dust cloud stirred further ahead—apparently a Volcarona fighting over some Combee's Honey. The chaos was quite literal—a whirlwind sweeping through leaves and petals.

Xu Li kept his distance, navigating cautiously through the wild Hisuian landscape.

He couldn't help but muse: Hisui sure has a rustic charm...

He also noticed some ordinary wildlife—rabbits, insects, and seagulls—all non-Pokémon animals coexisting peacefully in this ancient world.

Eventually, they found a small clearing. Axew dug a pit just wide enough for one and a half people. Xu Li laid down in it, pulling Axew into his arms, and opened his system inventory to tally up their spoils.

Opening the Quests & Achievements tab, he saw that the bonus rewards from "The Dawn of Hisui" event had triggered more achievements than usual:

A new quest also appeared:

"First Pokédex Launch" – Rewards based on the number of Pokémon entries Xu Li records.

Curious, Xu Li tapped on one of the stranger-sounding quests: The Cost of Growth.

[Quest: The Cost of Growth]

Glameow is a beautiful Pokémon that uses its spiral tail and sparkling eyes to perform captivating, rhythmic movements—almost like gymnastics. Occasionally, it emits charming cries to gain affection. Many people adore this personality.

But this elegant Pokémon has an evolution...

Condition: Evolve a Soft Touch–natured, beauty-loving Glameow into a Purugly.

Reward: Silk Scarf

Xu Li stared blankly at the screen.

…Yep. That's a steep cost. He remembered: Glameow's "Soft Touch" ability likely evolves into "Thick Fat." Quite a downgrade in elegance.

He packed away his items and gave Axew some Pokéblocks to replenish its energy. Now it was time to think ahead.

Food wasn't a worry—Axew could eat Pokéblocks, and they'd seen plenty of berry trees along the road.

Shelter? Stick with the old method—dig a pit, cover it, and reinforce with earth. Axew could easily make a larger den as a temporary home. Ideally, he could find Jubilife Village and check if he could get housing without joining the Galaxy Team.

Goals: Capture more Pokémon, grow stronger, complete quests, and get out of this crazy version of Hisui.

Brushing off the dirt, Xu Li stood.

"Come on, General Ya Ya. Let's go explore!"

Axew chirped confidently.

First goal: Capture six Pokémon.

Deep in the Woods...

"Snrk~ snrk~ snrk~"

Beneath a thick-rooted tree, a Paras napped peacefully.

This was paradise. No competition. No interruptions. Just a delicious tree with rich nutrients to drain. If it got tired, it could nap again immediately.

What Paras didn't expect was an uninvited guest entering the forest.

"Axew, aim for the red mushroom! Use Aerial Ace!"

Axew's eyes gleamed. Its little legs moved fast, and in a flash, it closed the distance. A single glowing swipe struck Paras hard across the back.

WHAM!

Paras didn't even have time to react before it was launched across the clearing—KO'd instantly by the quadruple-effective Flying-type move.

"Nice one, Axew!"

"Axew~ Axew!" Axew danced proudly—too easy.

Xu Li tossed a Poké Ball at Paras. No shaking—immediate capture.

He released it briefly to patch up its wounds, then returned it to the ball.

Just after capturing Paras, a red-and-white figure stumbled into view—battered but burning with determination.

Its fierce eyes locked onto Axew.

It was a Hisuian Growlithe.

Its shaggy red fur draped like a scarf over its shoulders, thick enough to hide its eyes. Rumor said this breed had fur laced with volcanic minerals from living near eruptions—giving it Fire/Rock typing.

But this Growlithe was in rough shape.

Bruises and scratches covered its body. Two puncture wounds on its front legs were faintly purple—likely poison from a clawed predator. Its fur was a mess—grey patches, tufts sticking out wildly.

Even so, its eyes burned with challenge.

Xu Li frowned. Why fight in this condition?

Growlithe let out a growl, signaling its intent, then dashed forward in a blazing Flame Wheel.

"Jump, Axew! Use Dragon Claw!"

Axew didn't hesitate. As Growlithe approached, Axew leapt, spinning mid-air, and slashed down with glowing claws.

BOOM!

Growlithe was slammed into the dirt, a cloud of dust billowing up around it. The air filled with the scent of scorched fur and earth.

Xu Li hurled a Poké Ball at the downed Pokémon.

Shake.Shake.Crack— the ball burst open.

Growlithe emerged, still defiant, more furious than before. Another Flame Wheel, right at Axew.

Stubborn little thing… Head like a rock.

"Water Tail!"

This time, Axew didn't wait. Spinning into action, its tail surged with water and crashed down directly onto Growlithe's head.

Quadruple weakness. KO.

Xu Li tossed another Poké Ball. This time—it held.

Growlithe (Hisuian) ♂

Type: Fire/Rock

Level: 22

Ability: Flash Fire

Moves: Flame Wheel, Fire Fang, Rock Slide, Bite, Tackle, Ember

Affinity: 20 (Acknowledges your strength)

He released the fainted Growlithe and used a Hyper Potion and Max Potion to heal it. When it didn't wake up immediately, he returned it to the ball for rest.

Now that he had three Pokémon, Xu Li opened his system.

Achievement Unlocked: Capture 3 Pokémon

Reward Received: Pokéblock Blender – Berry Mix Edition

Bonus Unlocked: Telepathy I
