Maybe My Soulmate! (GL)

Chapter 215: Yang and the seven beings of chaos.

Mo Yuxin's heart pounded as Shen Mingyue's words settled over them. She opened her mouth to speak, but her voice caught in her throat. "This… are you and Mother—" she began hesitantly, a fragile wisp of hope and confusion staining her tone.

Before Mo Yuxin could finish, Shen Mingyue inclined her head slightly. Her voice was soft, yet it carried the unmistakable gravity of one who speaks truths that have been etched into the fabric of existence itself. "Yes," she said, her gaze calm and unwavering. "But not in the way you are thinking. In this life, we have not yet confessed our love to each other—your mother has not fully discovered her own feelings. Yet I love her with every fiber of my being and wish to be with her. I have waited through countless cycles, through seasons and lifetimes, for her to return. Now that she has finally been reborn, I will not leave her—for the rest of my life."

Mo Yuxin stood frozen, unable to fully accept or reject what she had just heard. In a world of cultivation, where souls traveled across dimensions and lifetimes, a love as ancient and far-reaching as Shen Mingyue described was not technically impossible. Yet it still felt impossible to grasp with her human mind. Her thoughts roiled, but she could not form words. Su Yubing's steady hand on her shoulder reminded Mo Yuxin to breathe—slowly, deliberately.

Su Yubing's own gaze was calm and supportive. Dark eyes met Mo Yuxin's, conveying a silent message: "I believe her. Trust me—and trust what your soul already knows." That reassurance, firm and gentle, gave Mo Yuxin the courage to speak again.

Taking a shaky breath, Mo Yuxin forced herself to steady her voice. "We understand what you have said," she began, her tone strained but determined, "but how can we simply believe such a story? If you truly loved Mother Lan, as you claim, there must be proof—some demonstration of your power, some undeniable sign that you are who you say you are."

A faint, knowing smile flickered across Shen Mingyue's lips. Her eyes shone with the quiet brilliance of secrets held for centuries. "I see," she replied gently, "that you remain as cautious as ever, Su Yubing."

At the sudden utterance of Su Yubing's name, both Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing sprang to their feet, startled. Their reflexes took over: they exchanged a rapid glance, then adopted battle-ready stances, muscles coiled and weapons at the ready. The air itself seemed to tense, as if bracing for conflict. Yet Shen Mingyue remained perfectly calm, seated with an air of serene authority. The contrast between their defensiveness and her composure created a crackling tension in the room.

Mo Yuxin's eyes narrowed. "Cautious?" she repeated, voice low but edged with indignation. "Why do you call me that?"

Su Yubing, always protective, took a step forward, placing herself between Mo Yuxin and Shen Mingyue. One hand drifted to the hilt of her dagger. "We are not suspicious," she said evenly, though a spark of righteous anger lit her dark eyes. "Do not mistake our caution for coldness."

Shen Mingyue's expression softened. She folded her hands gracefully in her lap and spoke with a calm clarity that seemed to hush even the flickering lamplight. "I did not label you suspicious as an insult. I called you cautious because," she paused, her gaze sweeping over Mo Yuxin first, then resting on Su Yubing, "I sense the power of the Rule within you, Mo Yuxin, and the mantle of Death that Su Yubing bears. You are bound by cosmic forces that transcend mere mortal understanding. So I understand the need for both of you to be wary."

Mo Yuxin's breath caught. She had never revealed her role as the successor of the Rule to anyone outside her closest circle—and certainly not to a stranger. For Shen Mingyue to name it so matter-of-factly felt like an echo of something her soul already recognized. "You see it," she whispered, awe seeping into her voice. "You know who I am."

Su Yubing's eyes flicked to Mo Yuxin and then back to Shen Mingyue. The idea that Mo Yuxin bore the Rule—an invisible force that wove together worlds and destinies—felt both comforting and terrifying. The Rule was the arcane essence governing the balance of everything, and to have it named aloud felt like stepping into a mirror that reflected her truest self. Meanwhile, Su Yubing bore the mantle of Death, the inevitable end and transformation of all things. If Shen Mingyue perceived those forces so clearly, then she might indeed possess uncanny knowledge.

Shen Mingyue continued, voice gentle yet resonant: "I never imagined that the successor of the Rule and the embodiment of Death would form such a bond. I see the karmic threads binding you—your destinies intertwined across lifetimes. But you need not fear me. Now, if you wish proof, I will give it—proof of my own cosmic identity as Yang, one of the Seven Beings of Chaos."

A hush settled over the room. The Seven Beings of Chaos were legendary—mythical entities said to embody the primal forces that predated creation itself. If Shen Mingyue truly was Yang, one of those beings, then her power would not just be vast; it would be foundational to the cosmos. Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing exchanged a look of startled anticipation. Their defensive stances eased slightly, though they remained vigilant.

Mo Yuxin stepped forward, still constructing a brave face even as her heart raced. "Show us this proof," she said, her voice firm despite the tremor she felt. "Let us see the power you claim to hold."

Shen Mingyue inclined her head in serene acknowledgment. "As you wish." She rose from her seat with effortless grace, as though moving through a world made fluid by her presence. The light from the oil lamp flickered in the slight draft that seemed to accompany her steps. She paused in the center of the room and closed her eyes, drawing a slow, deliberate breath.

Moments passed so still that Mo Yuxin thought time itself had held its breath. Then Shen Mingyue's hands rose before her, palms upturned, as if cradling an unseen force. A faint, silvery luminescence gathered between her fingertips—a soft, pulsing glow that brightened in slow arcs.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing watched, transfixed, as the glow intensified and formed a sphere of light that hovered above Shen Mingyue's outstretched palms. The sphere expanded, rippling like liquid mirror, and then fractured—splitting into seven distinct beams that shot upward, bathing the ceiling in shifting hues. Each beam bore a unique color and vibration: one smoldered with crimson sparks, like dying embers in the night; another crackled with jagged, electric blue; a third shimmered with violet haze; the others glowed in swirling greens, golds, silvers, and midnight black. The seven beams wove around Shen Mingyue, tracing patterns that defied mortal geometry—fractals swirling in perfect harmony, each thread resonating with raw, primeval strength.

"They are the seven facets of chaos," Shen Mingyue intoned, her voice steady and clear even as the power pulsed around her. "Each beam represents a primal aspect: destruction, creation, potential, void, transformation, stasis, and entropy. Together they form the sum of chaos itself. I am Yang—the power of destruction and decay, the first of the Seven Beings of Chaos. From me flows the force that dismantles order, unbinding worlds to allow new existence to emerge."

As she spoke, the beams of light converged once more, condensing into a single, radiant form above her head. The shape resolved into a vast, luminous symbol—a six-pointed star encircled by a ring of glowing runes. Those runes, each representing one of the Seven Beings, burned with living light, etching an intricate mandala that hovered between heaven and earth.

Mo Yuxin's breath hitched. She felt the room pulse with that chaotic energy—an energy that thrummed in dangerous harmony with her own Rule. The Rule wove structure from chaos; her very identity was the foil to Shen Mingyue's power. And now, seeing that symbol burn in the air, she knew that Shen Mingyue's mastery over chaos was absolute.

Su Yubing, too, felt a tremor of awe and dread. Embodying Death, she had accepted the inevitability of dissolution. Shen Mingyue, as Yang, was unity in destruction, the force that swept away foundations. Witnessing that power unleashed in such a controlled demonstration felt both exhilarating and terrifying.

The mandala's glow intensified until the entire room was bathed in luminous brilliance. Shadows recoiled into corners, and even the stagnant air seemed to vibrate with latent energy. Then, as though obeying a silent command, the mandala slowly dissolved into motes of flickering light—tiny fragments of raw chaos that drifted to the floor like shards of dawn. The lamp's glow returned to its usual, steady flame, and the beams of color vanished without a trace.

Shen Mingyue's hands lowered, and her eyes opened, reflecting a steady, luminous calm. In those dark depths, Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing saw the twin emotions of power and devotion, the quiet resolve that had persisted through ages. "This is my proof," Shen Mingyue said softly. "I am Yang, the fifth among the Seven Beings of Chaos. My power is the force of destruction, the unravelling necessary to allow creation. Yet by itself, destruction is hollow. Thus Mother Lan—her true name is Ying—embodies the power of creation. Together, Yang and Ying bring balance, forging worlds from the void and guiding souls through the cycle of death and rebirth."
