Chapter 18: The Red Wolf's Pride
'She's stubborn and unwilling to let go. She'll die with her enemy if this continues, Alpha,' the black wolf mind-linked the red wolf, his mental voice laced with a hint of awe and concern.
The red wolf's ears perked up, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the situation. Of course, he could see that Reana was determined to take down the brute, but his woman would not die under his watch. If not for his strange color of red, he would have charged into battle himself.
Then, with a swift nod, he gave a single, decisive command; 'Go!'
The black wolf sprang into action, racing down the hill with lightning speed, his paws barely touching the ground as he hurtled towards the battling wolves.
Reana was growing exhausted, her body weakened by the loss of blood and the relentless agony of the brown wolf's teeth tearing into her back. The beast, too, was showing signs of fatigue, its panting growing heavier as it shook its head in an attempt to clear the blurriness from its vision.
Suddenly, a black wolf shot out like an arrow, slamming into the brown beast with incredible force. The tremendous impact threw the two wolves apart, sending Reana tumbling through the air.
She landed awkwardly on her paws, her legs trembling beneath her. But before the brown wolf could steady itself, Reana lurched at it with a ferocity that seemed to shake the very air around her. Vengeance and rage rolled off her body, her eyes blazing with a fierce determination to destroy the beast that had pushed her to the brink of death.
The brown beast saw her coming, but its exhausted body couldn't dodge in time as Reana jumped onto its back, sinking her teeth deep into its neck. She clamped down with all her might, her jaws locking onto the wolf's flesh like a deadly vice, repeatedly tearing at its vulnerable neck.
The brown beast let out a blood-curdling scream as Reana's teeth pierced its neck again and again, its eyes wide with pain and terror.
It tried to struggle, to shake Reana off, but she held firm, her paws digging deep into its sides, steadying herself in place. The brown beast's struggles grew weaker, its body beginning to go limp as Reana's grip tightened.
The black wolf, who had intervened just in time, stood watching Reana with a mixture of awe and respect. Then, its eyes shifted to the hills, locking onto the huge, fiery red wolf standing regally at the summit. The red wolf's piercing gaze met the black wolf's, a silent understanding passing between them.
'She has won, Alpha,' the black wolf praised through their mindlink, acknowledging Reana's hard-won victory.
'Spare no one,' the red wolf commanded, his mental voice firm and unyielding.
Just as his command dropped, a few wolves from Reana's warriors stopped fighting and looked in the direction of the hill, their ears perked up and their eyes gleaming with respect. Then, as if acknowledging the red wolf's command, let out a collective howl.
In a burst of renewed strength, they followed behind the black wolf, seven of them, big and black, swept out the rogues with a ferocity that none had ever seen. As if they'd been holding back since the beginning of the fight, as if they'd not tapped into their true strength, they now unleashed their full fury upon the enemy.
And they were unstoppable, bringing down rogues as if they were insignificant prey, their jaws snapping shut with deadly precision, their claws tearing through fur and flesh with ease. The rogues, who had once seemed so formidable, now scattered in terror, unable to withstand the onslaught of the seven black wolves, who fought with ferocity that was both beautiful and terrifying to behold.
The Black Moon Pack warriors were good, but these seven black monsters were better.
Meanwhile, the rest of the pack, sensing their Luna's victory, let out a triumphant chorus of howls and yips, their voices echoing through the terrain as they fell back into fighting with renewed vigor.
Reana stood beside the lifeless beast, panting heavily as she tried to catch her breath. Her chest heaved with exhaustion, but her eyes burned with a fierce determination. She gazed out towards the chaotic battlefield, her gaze sweeping over the carnage.
The rogues had dwindled to less than half. Reana's lips curled into a snarl as she ignored her weakness and the searing pain from the gaping wound on her back. Her white fur was dyed red, sticky with her own blood and that of her enemy, but she refused to yield. With a fierce battle cry, she dashed into the fray, her jaws snapping and her claws flashing in the sunlight as she tore into the remaining rogues.
She had killed the biggest threat, and the rest were just average. It was easier to fight now, her confidence and strength bolstered by the pack's unified support. Another brown wolf, its eyes fixed on Reana, as it dashed towards her from the side, a white Black Moon Pack's warriors collided with it, both tumbling over.
As if there was a tacit understanding, other warriors closed around Reana, protecting their Luna as they fought side by side. The tide of the battle had turned, and it was clear that the Black Moon Pack would emerge victorious. The air was electric with the pack's collective energy, their howls and snarls a symphony of triumph.
The red wolf stood on the hill, his gleaming eyes locked on Reana, almost unable to contain the pride swelling in his chest. His mate, his Luna, was a force to be reckoned with, and he felt honored to stand by her side this time. A low, rumbling growl emanated from his throat, a sound of approval and admiration, as he watched Reana fight with a strength and ferocity that left him breathless.
…
Inside a camp nestled deep within the forest, a group of rugged individuals sat in anticipation. Suddenly, a disheveled figure burst into the camp, breathless and urgent.
"Roman is dead," the newcomer reported, panting heavily.
