Chapter 4: Chapter-4-Brutal
The wolf-like creature burst from the underbrush, a massive shadow with gleaming yellow eyes, its muscles rippling beneath a thick coat of fur. It was at least three times the size of a normal wolf, exuding a ferocious strength that made Leon's pulse quicken. He had no time to ponder how it had escaped from the lab; his instincts took over as it lunged at him with a snarl that reverberated through the air.
"Leon, move!" Lisa's voice echoed in his mind, urgent and clear.
He sidestepped just in time, narrowly avoiding the creature's massive jaws as they snapped shut mere inches from his face. The ground shook beneath them as the beast crashed into a nearby tree, the impact reverberating through the forest. Leon's heart raced as he felt a power surging within him, awakening from the depths of his being—a kinetic energy he had yet to fully understand.
"Focus, Leon! Amplify it!" Lisa urged, her presence steadying him.
He felt a spark igniting inside, a sense of control he hadn't experienced before. Leon took a deep breath and concentrated, envisioning an aura of energy surrounding him, ready to unleash. The world around him blurred, his senses sharpening as he harnessed that energy.
The creature, now angry and disoriented, turned its attention back to him, its yellow eyes burning with primal fury. Leon understood this moment; he wasn't merely running from danger anymore—he was ready to fight.
As the wolf charged at him again, Leon pushed off the ground, feeling the kinetic energy build within him, amplifying his speed and strength. He dodged to the side, the beast narrowly missing him once more. Time seemed to slow as he rolled back onto his feet, an instinctual calm washing over him.
With the aura around him pulsing with energy, he unleashed a powerful kick aimed at the beast's side. The blow landed with a sickening thud, the impact reverberating through his leg and sending the creature sprawling. Leon could feel the energy coursing through him, enhancing his movements and heightening his senses.
The wolf let out a howl of rage, quickly regaining its footing. It lunged at him again, but Leon anticipated the move. He intensified his aura, feeling the energy envelop him like a protective shield, amplifying his reflexes. He leapt into the air, dodging the creature's snapping jaws as it lunged.
From his elevated position, Leon could see the wolf's confusion and fury. He twisted in midair, feeling the power swell within him. As he descended, he channeled that kinetic energy into his fist, striking the creature's back with all the force he could muster.
The impact was explosive, the ground trembling beneath them as the wolf crumpled under the weight of his blow. Leon landed deftly, the exhilaration of the moment flooding him. "I did it," he murmured, disbelief tinging his voice. "I actually did it."
"Leon, you're controlling it! This is amazing!" Lisa's excitement was palpable, even in his mind.
As the wolf struggled to rise, Leon felt a sense of unease wash over him. He had never encountered such a creature before—one bred in the very lab he had escaped. What other horrors were out there?
Before he could ponder further, the creature surged upward, desperation fueling its movements. Leon prepared to strike again, but this time, he was more calculated. He unleashed the full extent of his aura, amplifying his speed and strength into a single, devastating punch aimed at the wolf's jaw.
The blow connected with a resounding crack, the force sending the creature sprawling once more. Leon stood over it, breathing heavily, the thrill of victory mingling with concern. The wolf let out a low growl, but it was clear he had the upper hand.
"What is this thing?" he wondered aloud, his breath heavy with exertion.
"Leon, whatever it is, we need to get moving! There could be more of them," Lisa urged, her tone shifting to urgency.
He nodded, adrenaline still coursing through his veins. The battle had awakened something profound within him, but lingering dangers threatened to undo everything he had just achieved. As he glanced back at the wolf, a chill ran down his spine. How many more of these creatures had the lab released into the world?
"Enough, Lisa," he said, trying to block out her anxious voice. He concentrated, absorbing her presence into his consciousness, silencing her with a wave of focus. The world felt quieter, his thoughts clearer. He could handle this on his own, at least for now.
As he turned toward the cabin, ready to retreat, he felt a low rumble echo through the ground, jolting him from his thoughts. Leon's senses heightened, scanning the area around him, instinctively aware that the night was far from over.
"Something's coming," he thought to himself, dread pooling in his stomach.
More than just the wolf… something else had escaped. It was close!
Leon steeled himself, readying for whatever challenge awaited him outside. He was no longer a victim of circumstance; he had the power to confront whatever horrors lurked beyond the shadows.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the forest into deepening darkness, he prepared for the battle ahead, feeling a renewed sense of purpose igniting within him. But just as he braced himself, he heard a low growl, deep and resonant, echoing through the trees, a sign that the night was far from over.
