Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - Beginning

The sterile hum of machines filled the laboratory, a relentless reminder of the cold, mechanical world Leon was born into. His existence began not in a cradle but in a glass chamber, surrounded by beeping monitors and whirring devices. The air was thick with antiseptic, and the harsh fluorescent lights cast a clinical pallor over everything.

Leon's tiny body lay suspended in a fluid-filled pod, connected to an intricate network of tubes and wires. The machines kept him alive, and their ceaseless hum was his only companion. He didn't cry. He didn't know how. His world was devoid of comfort, of warmth. The only sounds he knew were the mechanical ones of his prison.

---

As the years passed, the experiments became more invasive. Leon, now a ten-year-old boy, had learned to bear the pain in silence. The needles and serums were a constant torment, each injection a reminder of his purpose. He had no sense of normal childhood. No friends, no games—just endless rounds of tests designed to push him to his limits.

The scientists spoke in detached, clinical tones, their voices devoid of warmth. "Subject 117 is responding well to the latest serum," one would say. "The enhancements are proceeding according to plan," another would report.

Leon had long since stopped expecting kindness or sympathy. He had been molded into a vessel of power, an instrument of the Hand. His strength grew with each passing day, but so did the darkness within him—a simmering rage that only intensified with every painful experiment.

---

One night, after another grueling session, Leon lay in his cot, staring up at the cold metal ceiling. His heart pounded with a mix of fear and fury, his fists clenched tightly. The anger inside him was a living thing, growing more uncontrollable by the day.

"I can't do this anymore," he muttered, his voice cracking with frustration. "I can't take this."

The words echoed in the empty room, swallowed by the oppressive silence. For a moment, he thought he was alone—until a soft, soothing voice broke through the darkness.

"You don't have to," said the voice, calm and gentle.

Leon bolted upright, his eyes wide with alarm. "Who's there?" he demanded, scanning the dimly lit room. "Show yourself!"

From the shadows emerged a girl. She was around his age, with short dark brown hair and glasses perched on her nose. She wore a simple turtleneck sweater and a skirt, her expression kind and understanding.

Leon's breath caught in his throat. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice hoarse.

"My name is Lisa," she said softly, taking a step closer. "I've been with you for a long time."

Leon's eyes narrowed. "No, you haven't. I would've seen you. I would've known."

Lisa's gaze was steady and reassuring. "I've been with you in a different way. I was created to help you. To manage the anger inside you."

Leon shook his head, disbelief and anger mixing in his chest. "You're not real. You're just a part of the experiments, something they put in my head."

Lisa didn't argue. Her expression remained calm and gentle. "Perhaps I am a part of the experiments, but that doesn't mean I can't help you. I was designed to be a source of comfort, to help you control your rage."

"I don't need comfort," Leon snapped, his anger flaring. "I can handle it on my own."

Despite his words, the fury inside him seemed to flare even hotter. He could feel it building, a storm of rage ready to explode. His body trembled with the intensity of it. He wanted to break free, to destroy everything around him. He wanted out.

Lisa took another step closer, her voice soft but firm. "You don't have to do it alone. We can work together to control it. There's a way out, but you need to be calm to find it."

Leon's fists tightened, and he sank down onto the edge of his bed, his shoulders sagging. The storm inside him roared, but Lisa's presence was oddly soothing. For the first time in years, he didn't feel entirely alone.

"You're just... in my head," Leon murmured, more to himself than to her. "You're not real."

"Maybe," Lisa replied, her voice filled with a touch of sadness, "but that doesn't mean I can't be of help."

Leon looked at her, his eyes reflecting the turmoil inside him. "If you're real, then prove it," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "Help me get out of here."

Lisa nodded, her eyes filled with determination. "We'll do it together," she said. "I'll guide you."

---

The opportunity for escape came sooner than Leon had anticipated. The date was August 9, 1945—a day that would change everything. The scientists had been focused on their work, oblivious to the world outside. They had no idea that an event was unfolding that would alter their lives forever.

The city of Nagasaki, where the research lab was located, was under threat. The world outside was in chaos, and news of the atomic bombings had reached even the remote corners of the world. Leon was in the middle of another agonizing procedure when the first tremor shook the facility.

The ground beneath him quaked violently, and the lab's lights flickered ominously. Panic erupted among the scientists as they scrambled to assess the situation. Leon could hear their shouts and the clattering of equipment. His heart pounded with a mix of fear and exhilaration.

"This is it," Lisa's voice came through, steady and calm. "It's our chance. You need to move now."

Leon's eyes widened as the alarms blared, the facility plunging into chaos. He could feel the intense vibrations of the explosions, the walls shaking as if the very earth were coming apart. The experiments were abruptly halted, and the scientists fled, their frantic movements leaving Leon momentarily unattended.

He seized the opportunity, his rage and desperation propelling him into action. He smashed through the glass of his containment pod with a forceful kick, shards of glass scattering around him. The pain was intense, but he barely felt it. His mind was focused solely on one goal: freedom.

Lisa guided him through the tumultuous corridors of the facility. The walls were cracked and crumbling, the facility in disarray. Leon's heart raced as he sprinted through the wreckage, his path illuminated by the flickering emergency lights.

"Left, then right," Lisa instructed, her voice clear and unwavering amidst the chaos. "We need to avoid the guards."

Leon followed her directions, dodging debris and making his way through the crumbling structure. His muscles burned with exertion, but he pushed through the pain. The facility was falling apart around him, and every step was a step closer to freedom.

As they reached the final exit, the intensity of the explosions outside was deafening. The heat from the fires was palpable, and the night sky was illuminated by the raging inferno. Leon's breath came in ragged gasps as he stumbled out into the open, the cool night air hitting his face like a welcome embrace.

He looked at Lisa, her expression a mixture of relief and sadness. "We did it," he said, his voice trembling with exhaustion.

Lisa nodded, her eyes reflecting a deep sense of pride. "Yes, we did. And now you have the chance to live a life of your own."

Leon took a deep breath, the weight of his past beginning to lift. The darkness inside him was still there, but he had escaped the lab, and with Lisa's help, he had found a path to freedom. The future was uncertain, but for the first time, he felt a glimmer of hope.

The atomic bomb had provided the chaos needed for his escape, but it was Lisa's guidance that had given him the strength to seize the opportunity. As the fires of Nagasaki burned in the distance, Leon looked forward to a new beginning—a chance to redefine his life and confront the darkness within him, with Lisa by his side.
