Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 39: Chapter 38: Turning the Tables

Gwen Spider had suffered a cut on her arm.

Fortunately, Peter treated it promptly and effectively. Thanks to the Spider-Man's remarkable healing abilities, her wound had almost fully healed by dinnertime, just a few hours later.

Still worried, Peter insisted on unwrapping the bandage to inspect it closely. He found the wound hadn't started scabbing yet, so he carefully disinfected the area again and wrapped it with a fresh bandage.

Although Gwen Spider thought Peter was making a big deal out of nothing, she thoroughly enjoyed being cared for and even found herself relishing the attention.

The other Spider-People noticed the subtle change in their dynamic but chose not to comment.

The group's biggest concern at the moment was Miles Spider.

He wasn't with their little team anymore.

His uncle, the Prowler, had been sent to the hospital shortly after the battle ended, and naturally, Miles had gone with him.

At this point, they still didn't know if the Prowler had pulled through.

Everyone tacitly accepted that Miles would be absent from the night's operation.

Fortunately, in their original plan, Miles had been assigned a supporting role for Peter.

Although losing a support member was less than ideal, based on Peter's performance over the past day, Shadow Spider and the others unanimously agreed that he had proven himself capable of taking charge and completing the mission.

After some discussion, they finalized the plan for the evening.

The operation was divided into four steps:

Step One:

Peter, Gwen Spider, Peni Parker, and Middle-Aged Peter would head to Fisk Tower with the invitation Kingpin had provided to attend the Ultimate Spider-Man's memorial.

According to their research—primarily conducted by Peni—Kingpin's particle collider control room was located directly beneath Fisk Tower.

The invitation from Kingpin further corroborated the credibility of this information.

Step Two:

Find Kingpin and follow him.

Kingpin's goal in conducting the particle collider experiment was to locate his wife and son in a parallel universe to fill the void in his heart.

Given the significance of such an occasion, Kingpin was bound to be present when the collider was activated.

By following him, they could effortlessly locate the particle collider's exact location without wasting time searching for access points.

This was precisely why Gwen Spider had accepted Kingpin's challenge.

Step Three:

Shadow Spider and Spider-Ham would handle their part.

With Shadow Spider's stealth skills and Spider-Ham's agility, the two would infiltrate the area near the particle collider's main structure through the subway tracks that Miles had identified earlier.

This information came from Miles' uncle, the Prowler.

Before all of this had transpired, Miles had been just an ordinary boy.

The Prowler, while working for Kingpin, had a hideout in an abandoned underground warehouse near the collider.

The hideout served as both a temporary rest area between jobs and a checkpoint to prevent outsiders from stumbling upon Kingpin's secret.

After all, discovering the secret could be deadly, and that's very dangerous.

As for who dies, I won't mention names.

One time, Miles Spider was brought here by the Prowler because the walls were empty, providing a perfect place for him to doodle.

It was that very visit that led to Miles being bitten by a spider, granting him spider-like abilities.

Later, in an effort to find the spider that bit him, Miles returned to this place.

Following the subway tracks, he heard the sounds of a fight.

Tracking the sounds, he unexpectedly stumbled upon the battle between Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Green Goblin.

So, that path could lead directly to Kingpin's particle collider!

After learning all of this, Peter asked Miles to mark the route on a map.

Originally, their plan was to take that route directly.

However, there was one risk associated with it.

Miles had been spotted by Kingpin and the others and was subsequently chased by the Prowler, who didn't know his identity at the time.

Eventually, he managed to escape thanks to a subway train that happened to be activated at the right moment.

As a result, Kingpin likely took precautions along this route.

The combination of Step Two and Step Three formed a deceptive feint strategy.

Peter and the others would enter openly and cause as much chaos as possible to draw attention.

Meanwhile, Shadow Spider and Spider-Ham would sneak in through another path, further weakening Kingpin's forces.

This way, they could hopefully gain control of the particle collider.

The final step, of course, would be to go home and shut down the particle collider.

Peter would be the one to carry out the final step.

He had already prepared himself for the possibility of staying in the Ultimate Spider-Man world forever.

"Maybe inheriting the mantle of Ultimate Spider-Man and becoming the second Ultimate Spider-Man wouldn't be so bad?"

Peter thought to himself, his mind drifting to the serious yet humorous Orlando police officer and the old lady who invited him to eat special meat pies.

In his old world, he was insignificant. If he went back, the book might even get censored.

It might be better to stay here.

— Of course, that was just a passing thought.

If Miles Spider could carry the weight and be the one to shut down the collider, Peter wouldn't mind trying his luck to see if he could return to his original world.

Unfortunately...

Peter could already tell just from thinking about it that Miles certainly had no intention of joining the fight.

No one would fault him for that.

However, considering that after tonight, they might never see each other again, and at the suggestion of Middle-Aged Peter Spider, they decided to go as a group to say their goodbyes to Miles.

At least they had met, even if only for a few short days. Leaving without saying anything felt a bit wrong.

Brooklyn Community Hospital.

The operating room light was still on.

On the bench outside the operating room, Jefferson Davis and Miles Morales sat, anxiously waiting.

Jefferson had not yet removed his police uniform. Upon receiving the call from Miles, informing him that Aaron Davis had been shot and was in critical condition, he rushed over immediately.

Miles had taken off his spider suit, not wanting to reveal his identity to his family just yet.

The expressions on both father and son were identical, full of worry and concern.

Aaron Davis's injuries (The Prowler) were clearly worse than expected.

The surgery had been going on for two hours, and there was still no sign of it being over.

Jefferson Davis rested his elbow on his knee, hands clasped over his forehead, sweat dripping down his face, his anxiety at an all-time high.

When he arrived, Aaron had already been rushed into the emergency room, but from Miles's description, he knew the location of the gunshot wound.

It was likely to the lung, and things were looking grim!

Meanwhile, Miles Spider was filled with regret.

He was thinking to himself, if it weren't for him, Uncle Aaron wouldn't have been shot.

He even had the thought: If he hadn't accidentally stumbled into the situation, would Spider-Man still be alive?

Had he caused Spider-Man's death?

And now, was he about to cause Uncle Aaron's death, just like Spider-Man?
