Chapter 116: Chapter 115: Dinosaur Crisis?
Reinforcements never arrived, and most of his fellow officers were either dead or gravely injured.
Now, he was the only one left, fighting and retreating just enough to cling to life.
There was good news and bad news.
The good news: they had successfully lured the five Allosauruses onto the bridge. Once they blocked off both ends and unleashed heavy firepower, these creatures wouldn't stand a chance against modern weaponry.
The bad news: he was out of bullets.
Although bullets didn't do much against these Allosauruses—mostly serving to attract their aggression—there's a certain confidence that comes from holding a loaded weapon. As the saying goes:
"When there's ammo in the gun, your words carry weight."
ROAR!
The Allosaurus that George Stacy had just unloaded his final bullets into suddenly let out a pained, frenzied howl, thrashing its head wildly.
It turned out—perhaps thanks to a stroke of luck—the last bullet had hit it squarely in the eye!
While these Allosauruses seemed to have unnaturally toughened skin, some biological vulnerabilities couldn't be altered.
Like their fragile eyes.
That shot inflicted a devastating injury.
The wounded Allosaurus lost control, stumbling and crashing madly into its companions, disoriented and crazed.
ROAR!
Suddenly, the largest Allosaurus let out a thunderous roar, leaping forward and stomping the injured one to the ground with a powerful strike.
Then, something astonishing happened.
The apparent leader of the Allosauruses opened its mouth—and spoke.
George Stacy, hiding behind a car, couldn't understand the strange sounds. It wasn't the guttural growl of a beast but a rhythmic sequence of tones—clearly some form of language.
As George watched in shock, the Allosaurus pinned beneath the leader gradually calmed down. It whimpered softly, seemingly submitting.
Only then did the leader release it.
The one-eyed Allosaurus stood up, growled lowly, and turned its remaining eye toward George Stacy, filled with murderous intent.
George's heart skipped a beat.
But he didn't turn to run. He knew there was no outrunning a dinosaur.
Instead, he stood tall, facing the charging one-eyed Allosaurus head-on.
"Come on!" George roared, hurling his empty pistol with all his strength, bracing himself for the end.
A foul, bloody wind rushed toward him.
George squeezed his eyes shut, his final thoughts drifting to his wife, daughter, and son.
THUD!
Suddenly, a heavy impact echoed, followed by a pained wail and the sound of something crashing to the ground.
Instinctively, George opened his eyes—and saw a familiar figure standing in front of him.
"Spider-Kid?" George muttered in confusion. "No… wait, the suit's design and material are different. Who is this?"
Peter had no idea that the man behind him was the father-in-law of another Spider-Man from a different universe.
Without turning around, Peter replied, "Officer, your job's done. Leave the monster-slaying to a monster like me."
"Who are you?" George Stacy asked the question burning in his mind.
"Me? I'm just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, passing through."
With that, Peter stepped forward, unfazed.
"Be careful!" George called out from behind. "They might be intelligent beings—not just simple dinosaurs."
Peter paused for a moment. "Intelligent beings?"
George continued, "Maybe… maybe everything we thought we knew is wrong. Perhaps, over a hundred million years ago, it really was dinosaurs that ruled the Earth."
Peter hesitated briefly before resuming his stride, speaking and gesturing as he approached the creatures.
"Hey, I'm talking to you. Are you really intelligent beings? Can we talk?"
George Stacy's words snapped him back to reality.
This was the Marvel Universe—was it really that strange for animals to talk?
After all, Spider-Ham was literally a talking pig.
If Spider-Ham could come from a universe full of anthropomorphic animals, then dinosaurs possessing intelligence didn't seem all that hard to accept.
What puzzled Peter even more, though, was that nothing like this had ever happened in the original The Amazing Spider-Man storyline.
Could this be something from an unmade sequel?
But why was it appearing now?
Or had something gone wrong with this universe?
Peter decided to first see if communication was possible. If reasoning didn't work, well… physics would.
"Roar?" The Allosaurus leader tilted its head slightly, staring at Peter, as if genuinely trying to understand him.
But Peter couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't looking at him—it was eyeing his suit.
The next moment, the Allosaurus leader suddenly threw its head back and let out a thunderous roar.
"ROAR—ROOOOAR!"
Immediately, the five Allosaurs, including the one-eyed one Peter had punched to the ground earlier, charged straight at him!
"Alright, I figured I wasn't exactly a master negotiator," Peter shrugged, unfazed.
Thwip! Thwip!
Crossing his arms in front of him, he fired webs in rapid succession, anchoring them to the bridge's pillars on both sides. Then, with a swift motion, he crisscrossed the strands in front of him.
In the blink of an eye, he'd created a web tripwire across the bridge.
With a light push from his toes, Peter vaulted into the air, firing another web mid-jump to pull George Stacy up to safety.
"Hang tight here for a bit, buddy. Things are a little rough down there," Peter said, placing George securely on the bridge's thickest beam.
"Thanks," George replied, catching his breath.
BZZT!
Peter was about to respond when his Spider-Sense flared violently.
His head snapped toward the source of danger.
A massive shadow was soaring toward them from the city.
It was a pterosaur!
Judging by its wingspan, it was at least 15 meters wide!
A name surfaced in Peter's mind, unbidden.
Quetzalcoatlus!
The Quetzalcoatlus was the largest known species of pterosaur, also called the feathered serpent pterosaur. Its wingspan exceeded 11 meters, with the biggest specimens stretching beyond 15 meters—roughly 1.5 meters longer than an F-16 fighter jet. It was the largest flying creature humanity had ever discovered.
This particular Quetzalcoatlus, rapidly approaching, had green on its head and wings, with purple streaks running along its neck and back. The color scheme was odd, yet strangely familiar to Peter.
But for the life of him, he couldn't remember where he'd seen it before.
One thing was certain:
This Quetzalcoatlus was definitely connected to the Allosaurs.
BOOM!
A series of loud crashes erupted below.
Peter glanced down to see the Allosaurs charging straight into his web tripwire, tumbling over themselves like oversized, prehistoric dominoes.
"Well then, guess I'll deal with you guys first!"
