Chapter 56: Chapter 56: A Multitude of Mutant Clones

Chapter 56: A Multitude of Mutant Clones

Meanwhile, at the headquarters of Alkali-Transigen.

Dr. Zander Rice stared at the rows of glass containers filled with muscular bodies hooked up to various instruments. His latest experimental data brought a triumphant grin to his face.

"I knew I could do it. It won't be long before I rule this world. Every nation will bow to me, and I will become the sole king of Earth!"

His previous attempt to hunt down the escaped mutant children with X-24 had failed, but the data collected had allowed him to refine his experiments on mutant clones.

After three to four months of research, he had not only replicated several new Wolverine clones but also made breakthroughs in cloning other mutants.

In another month or two, he might be able to replicate Professor X, Magneto, Phoenix, and Cyclops.

However, preliminary tests showed that these clones' abilities were significantly weaker than the originals.

Of course, he knew that even with successful cloning, the clones' strength wouldn't match the originals. But even at 20-30% of their power, they would still be formidable.

Especially since he was focusing on quantity. In a few years, he could create an entire army of mutant clones, remotely controlled by computers. Conquering a country wouldn't be too difficult.

A single Level 3 Magneto clone might not be impressive, but what about a thousand Level 3 Magneto clones? Could they challenge the real Magneto?

While this was still just a possibility, the groundwork had been laid. With time and success, it might become a reality.

By then, no nation would be able to stand against him.

If George were here, he'd tell Dr. Rice he was being naive. The world was far more complicated than he imagined.

"Get Donald in here!"

After organizing his experimental data, Dr. Rice remembered something and called for the base's commander, Donald.

"Any progress on locating those failed experiments?"

"Not an exact location yet, but we've confirmed they're in New York.

They kept switching vehicles, but according to our tracking experts, they eventually entered New York City and haven't left since. They're likely hiding in a secret location."

Commander Donald reported.

For the past few months, his focus had been on tracking down Wolverine and the escaped mutant children, seeking to avenge the humiliation at the border facility.

Unfortunately, the trail went cold in New York. It seemed the targets had gone underground after arriving in the city.

"The clones will need field testing to collect data, and those failed experiments must be dealt with. Once I perfect the cloning process, I'll create a clone of Caliban.

Using Caliban's mutant-tracking ability, we can quickly locate their whereabouts.

But if you fail this time, don't bother coming back!"

Dr. Rice's tone was icy.

Donald broke into a cold sweat, knowing his boss meant every word.

"Don't worry, sir. This time, I'll bring back the bodies of every one of them, including Wolverine and Professor X."

"Good. For now, don't waste energy searching. I'll notify you once I've perfected the clone."

Dr. Rice dismissed Donald with a wave.

He believed he was superior to all the scientists who had studied mutants before him—Dr. Trask, General Stryker—they were all beneath him.

Their Sentinel robots and synthetic mutants were nothing compared to his army of mutant clones.

The key was that these clones were controlled by computers, completely obedient to his commands. They didn't fear death or betrayal, making them more reliable than even Donald.

"Too bad there's not much Adamantium left. These Wolverine clones will have to make do with bone claws.

But that's fine. It'll help counter Subject 757!"

Adamantium was scarce. Most of it had been used on X-23 and X-24, leaving little in the base. Thus, the new Wolverine clones had to rely on their original bone claws.

Bone claws weren't affected by Subject 757's magnetic abilities.

Honestly, Dr. Rice couldn't understand why Subject 757, a failed experiment, had become so powerful. He had tried replicating it several times, but the results were disappointing.

Five of them couldn't even defeat a single bone-clawed Wolverine clone, forcing him to abandon the idea of cloning Subject 757.

At the same time, in the director's office at the Triskelion, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

"Director, Tony Stark isn't cooperating. It'll take more time."

Nick Fury nodded as he listened to Agent Coulson's report via video call:

"Tony Stark couldn't have escaped that terrorist base with Dr. Yinsen unharmed without outside help. Based on our investigation of the site, a third party must have intervened.

Your mission is not only to find out who hired the terrorists to attack Tony Stark but also to identify the third party that rescued him."

"Understood, Director."

After Coulson ended the call, Nick Fury picked up another file and began reading.

About half an hour later, he summoned S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top female spy, Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff, into his office.

"Based on years of investigation, we've confirmed that the disappearance of mutants is closely linked to Alkali-Transigen.

Recent intel suggests they're using mutant genes to create artificial mutant weapons.

I want you to infiltrate their base and uncover their true objectives. Ideally, obtain their experimental data as evidence so we can intervene."

Alkali-Transigen was a global corporation with ties to high-ranking officials in many countries.

Without solid evidence, S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't act rashly. It would draw criticism from the World Security Council and risk cutting their funding.

Thus, the best approach was to send Black Widow in to gather evidence covertly.

Of course, Nick Fury was also deeply interested in Alkali-Transigen's genetic experiments. If they could enhance S.H.I.E.L.D.'s capabilities, he wouldn't mind having S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists continue the research.

"Yes, Director."

Black Widow, clad in a sleek black suit with a striking figure and captivating face, nodded and accepted the mission.

For her, this wasn't an overly challenging task.

Her previous mission had involved infiltrating high-ranking government officials to gather evidence of a general's treason. The general, until his arrest, had believed he'd found true love in his twilight years, unaware she was a spy.
