Marvel With Spider Power and Omnitrix

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Doctor Animo

The interior of the Oscorp building was completely dark, save for the faint green glow of emergency exit signs.

However, the darkness barely hindered Ben's vision. If Peter could see clearly through black lenses, Ben's enhanced senses made navigation even easier.

"Connors's laboratory should be around here..."

When he'd hacked into Oscorp's system earlier, he'd already mapped out his route. Not only that, but he'd added universal access credentials to his profile, ensuring no security checkpoint could stop him.

Soon, he located Connors's original laboratory.

The place was completely devastated.

Equipment lay scattered across the floor in twisted wreckage, with even the laboratory tables overturned. A pungent chemical odor filled the air. Ben frowned, covering his nose as he entered by the red glow of the Omnitrix.

For some reason, he felt an unsettling sensation—not danger exactly, nor his spider-sense, but the distinct feeling of being watched.

He glanced around the laboratory. Several lab mice that hadn't been used in experiments regarded him warily, quickly scurrying into corners when they felt his gaze.

Nothing seemed overtly suspicious.

Ben suppressed his unease, righted a laboratory table, found several intact test tubes, gathered the remaining materials in the lab, and began synthesizing the lizard serum antidote.

However, he failed to notice that the small white mice hiding in the dark corners were watching him with increasingly feral intensity.

Meanwhile, in New York's underground pipe system, Peter had found a central junction where conduits connected the entire city—the largest sewage collection point in the area.

"In a confined sewer, even small vibrations carry clearly."

He shot spider silk into the depths of different tunnels, connecting all the strands into an enormous web. The spider web formed a massive trap, waiting for prey to become ensnared, with him as the hunting spider at its center.

"Now I just wait quietly."

Peter settled onto his web.

Only then did he have a moment to catch his breath.

However, he almost regretted breathing because the stench was overwhelming.

"Iron Man would never venture into sewers, and there's Ben—no wonder he didn't want to help me..."

Peter muttered to himself.

Suddenly remembering something, he jumped back to solid ground, retrieved his backpack, and extracted his camera.

"This is a perfect opportunity. If I can photograph Spider-Man fighting the Lizard, not only can I clear Spider-Man's reputation, but I can make some money too."

To this day, Peter remained furious that Captain Stacy thought Spider-Man and the Lizard were collaborating.

He'd worked so hard helping police capture criminals. If they weren't going to thank him, fine—but thinking he was a villain?

"It must be because they don't know I caught those criminals. Maybe I should leave notes next time: 'From your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.'"

Peter had a minor obsession with ensuring his good deeds were recognized.

But he didn't realize others viewed his behavior as provocation.

"And the Daily Bugle—if they'll pay $500 for a Spider-Man photo, they'll definitely pay $1,000 for a Lizard picture."

He adhered the camera to the sewer wall.

Peter was already planning what to do with a thousand dollars. That amount would cover living expenses for quite a while, but he figured he could make money photographing Spider-Man regularly, so finances wouldn't be so tight.

"I could buy Uncle Ben a new car, or a used RV for family trips."

It seemed like a wonderful idea.

In the future, he and Ben could handle family expenses, and Uncle Ben and Aunt May wouldn't need to work so hard. For him, taking a few photos could earn hundreds or thousands of dollars—easier than lifting a finger.

Their family hadn't traveled together in ages.

Peter was lost in these pleasant thoughts when the enormous web suddenly vibrated slightly.

He immediately refocused, crouching low as he peered toward the tunnel entrance, trying to locate the source of the disturbance.

However, in the darkness, the spider silk beneath his feet began vibrating violently like guitar strings being swept by fingers—not just one strand, but all of them!

It was like a massive symphony. Peter thought his movements on the web had disrupted the vibration frequency, so he scrambled around frantically until he saw rows of densely packed lizards crawling from all directions, converging together.

Like tributaries flowing into a river, they gathered to meet their king!

Found him! The thought flashed through Peter's mind, and he couldn't help feeling nervous.

He held his breath and crawled carefully in the direction the small lizards were moving. The dark sewer resembled a monster's throat and esophagus, swallowing his tiny figure.

Peter continued forward, but suddenly the disturbances ceased.

The spider silk stopped trembling, as if the prey had escaped the web.

Peter instinctively halted.

At that moment, the sewer fell silent like those few seconds before a monster appears in a horror film...

Peter swallowed nervously, then felt a sharp tingling in his head, like electrical current coursing through his body.

He peered into the sewer depths, alert for enemies that might appear at any moment.

But he didn't realize that massive claws were hovering directly above his head.

The stinging sensation intensified. Peter looked up and met a pair of glowing eyes!

The lizard monster opened its mouth wide enough to split its head and lunged down at him!

At that moment, spider-sense rang like an alarm in Ben's head.

Without thinking, he executed a backflip and leaped onto the ceiling, dodging the attack.

Hanging upside down, he saw the creature with green fur and scales.

This was a mutated monster nearly eight feet tall. Its body retained characteristics of a laboratory mouse but had begun transforming into a lizard.

Its gnarled tail whipped around like a giant club.

Before Ben could react, a heavy crash echoed from outside the laboratory, as if something massive had fallen.

Then Ben heard a sharp voice.

"An antidote for the serum?"

"I cannot allow you to ruin my plans!"

Ben looked toward the sound, his eyes widening in shock.

"Dr.Animo???"
