Chapter 42: Reincarnation III
Time unconsciously passed as Michael was immersed in his magical studies.
Knock, knock.
"Michael, it's time. Let's go," his mother said as she knocks on the library Door. Michael quickly stored the grimoire back into his hand as tattoo and rose to return the book he had been taken for the act, to the shelf.
He emerged from the library to see his mother waiting. She wore her Grand Mage robe, its elegant design highlighting her high status. "Let's go," she said, taking Michael by the hand and leading him outside. Once there, the family carriage was already prepared to take them to their destination.
Lutia Village wasn't far, just a three-hour journey by carriage. To pass the time, Michael picked a book from the family library to read during the trip. It was about necromancy.
"Are you interested in necromancy?" his mother asked, noticing the title as she glanced over.
"It's fascinating to see how one can manipulate corpses and unlock their potential," Michael replied honestly.
Amelia nodded thoughtfully. "If you're serious about it, we could send you to Black Griffin Academy when you're of age," she offered.
Michael shook his head. "I'm not that interested in necromancy. I just like learning about it," he clarified, and Amelia nodded in understanding.
The Black Griffin Academy was a renowned magical institution, particularly famous for its teachings in dark magic, of which necromancy was a branch. The academy is a respected magical hub, and in this world no magic is termed evil, unless of course you use it to harm innocents.
As the carriage rode along, Michael continued his study to make the best use of his time. He had already started to hear chatter about the Spring Festival, an annual event celebrated in Lutia Village.
The Spring Festival was a lively tradition, where young individuals of marriageable age could meet and show off their charms in hopes of finding a good match. It was also customary for the local people to participate in it, with some gods believed to offer their favor to couples destined to marry within the year.
' It's time to meet the protagonists,' Michael thought to himself with a smirk, closing his book and placing it back in his spatial ring as the village came into view.
Stepping out of the carriage, Michael followed his mother into the village. Upon noticing Amelia's Grand Mage robes, the villagers quickly backed away in respect. The fear in their eyes was evident, but they greeted her courteously, bowing deeply as she passed.
"Let's look around," Amelia said warmly, attempting to ease the villagers' tension. Michael nodded and began exploring with her.
To better blend in, Amelia stepped aside to change her attire, donning a simple villager's dress. Michael did the same, switching to modest clothing that made him indistinguishable from the other festivalgoers. With their disguises in place, they easily mingled with the crowd.
The festival was bustling with activity. Children ran around laughing, villagers played games, and performers entertained spectators. Many people were curious about the new faces, but none suspected anything unusual. As every year there are many new people who come to see the festival.
"Did you hear? The Lutia prodigy is showing his skills today," someone nearby whispered.
"Really? Has he always been this talented?" another asked.
"They say he's destined to become a great mage in the future."
Hearing the chatter, Michael grew intrigued. "Mother, let's go see this prodigy," he suggested.
Amelia smiled, sensing her son's curiosity. "Alright," she said as they followed the murmurs of the crowd.
After a short walk, they arrived at the center of the festival, where a small crowd had gathered. In the middle stood a Middle aged man with a round, puffy face and Dignified expression. Despite his fatty features, his demeanor carried a certain charm. Standing beside him was an elderly woman who Michael instantly identified as the Protagonist first master, Nana.
And then there were two children, one clearly a Noble Kid, and other was an simple villager kid, but from there expression it was clear who is the protagonist, the Villager kid stood there calmly while Nobel kid has a face of Disdain, Ignoring the Noble kid, Michael looked at the villager kid, aka Lith.
"This must be Lith, the protagonist," Michael thought to himself, a small smile playing on his lips.
Lith, about six years old—just like Michael—was demonstrating his magic for the villagers. At his master's encouragement, he extended his hand and cast a simple spell. A chunk of ice formed in midair before shooting forward and hitting a cabbage target ten meters away with impressive precision.
The crowd erupted into applause, praising the boy's talent. Michael watched closely, " he is god for his age" his mother said as Michael nodded, but it was not to the point she was impressed.
"One last thing, dear Lith. If you manage to indulge this poor old lady, I will treat you and all your family for free until you start your apprenticeship. Are you willing to humour me one last time?"
Lith had no need to think before accepting. His sister is sick and Nana is a powerful healer, so he nodded to her.
Nana smiled, full of confidence enough for the both of them.
"Bromann, toss one of those as high as you can."
Bromann threw a head of lettuce with a lob shot, sending it about three meters (10") high. When it reached its peak, Nana made a simple gesture, cutting the air horizontally with her extended hand and fingers, conjuring ten ice darts.
Five struck its left side, five the right side. When the head of lettuce started falling, Nana cut the air again, this time vertically, splitting it evenly in four parts.
Then she simply opened her palm toward the sky, conjuring four small vortexes that brought down the four pieces slowly.
Once again everyone started to applause as they saw her performance.
"Now is your turn. Bromann!"
Another head of lettuce, another lob shot.
When the shot reached his peak, Lith made hands signs with both hands shouting "Jorun!", conjuring four ice darts, two per side. When the lettuce started to fall, he used "Brezza" to cut it unevenly in half, using it again to summon two vortexes to bring the pieces down. Once again, they were rotating in opposite directions, the phenomenon highlighted by the slowly spinning lettuce.
