Chapter 9: THE CHURCH (II)
MASS RELEASE CHAPTER→ 2
------
The younger children gasped in unison. Nash raised a skeptical eyebrow, arms still crossed.
"Yeah right," Nash muttered. "Nobody can do that."
Nova just grinned wider. "Wanna test me?"
"Go on," he teased the kids, waving his hand theatrically. "Make a wish. Anything you like."
Rekka immediately burst out, "I wanna fly like a bird!!"
Nova chuckled. Of course he does.
Glancing once toward Father Orsi, who looked on with a patient, indulgent smile, Nova subtly activated Reality Script: Wishmaker's Command, keeping it light and harmless.
"The air under Rekka's feet lifts him gently."
A playful breeze curled around Rekka's feet, lifting him a few inches off the ground. The boy's eyes widened in amazement as he hovered, waving his arms like a bird flapping its wings.
"Woooah!! I'm flying!! Look at me!!" Rekka shouted.
The others cheered and clapped, except Nash, who looked slightly annoyed but intrigued.
Not far from the churchyard, Yuno was lazily guiding a breeze to dry the last of the clothes when something odd brushed against his senses — a shift in the wind that wasn't his doing.
He turned his head toward the commotion.
A few feet away, Rekka was floating a couple of feet off the ground, arms spread, laughing like a madman.
"Woooah!! Look at me!!"
Yuno blinked. That's wind magic but it's not my magic.
His sharp eyes moved toward the source — a tall guy he didn't recognize, crouched with one hand raised, a faint shimmer of light lingering around his fingers. The guy looked like a traveler: cloak, a worn bag slung over his shoulder, and a lazy grin that suggested he wasn't too worried about being a stranger here.
Yuno watched for a second, then sighed and started walking over. Guess I better check this out.
As Rekka touched down and the kids swarmed the newcomer, Yuno's voice drifted in, calm and cool as always.
"Never seen you around here before."
Nova turned, meeting the sharp, gold-eyed stare with an easy smirk. "Yeah, new face. Just passing through."
Before Yuno could say anything else—
"Yo!! What's goin' on over here?!"
Asta's voice crashed into the scene like a cannonball, and a moment later he came running up, sweat-soaked and dirt-smudged.
"Whoa! Who's this guy?!" Asta asked, blinking at Nova.
"Name's Nova," Nova replied casually, offering a lazy wave. "Met these little troublemakers a minute ago."
"He made Rekka fly!!" Hollo piped up.
"For real?!" Asta grinned wide, dropping down to do a push-up with the two girls still clinging to his back. "That's awesome! What kinda magic you got?"
Nova chuckled. "A good one."
Yuno frowned," That was wind magic, right?"
"For real?!" Asta grinned wide, dropping down to do a push-up with the two girls still clinging to his back. "That's awesome! What kinda magic you got?"
Nova chuckled. "A good one."
Yuno frowned, eyes narrowing. "That was wind magic… right?"
Nova's smile didn't fade. "Close."
He took a step back, raising one hand. The air grew subtly heavier, a faint shimmer surrounding his palm. Then, he spoke — not loud, but clear.
"Reality Script: Ignis Orb."
A small, flickering ball of fire appeared in his right hand.
The kids gasped.
Before anyone could react, he raised his other hand.
"Reality Script: Aqua Sphere."
A perfectly smooth globe of water materialized, hovering above his left palm.
"WHOA!!" Asta practically shouted, nearly dropping the two kids on his back. "No way! Two different elements?!"
Nova smirked. He shifted slightly, and with another command:
"Reality Script: Zephyr Drift."
A playful swirl of wind swept through the churchyard, rustling hair and sending loose grass tumbling.
Nova wasn't done. He tapped his boot against the ground and muttered:
"Reality Script: Terra Rise."
A chunk of earth lifted up, forming a small pillar at his feet.
And finally, raising a finger, he spoke:
"Reality Script: Lumen Spark."
A soft spark of light magic flickered and crackled above his fingertip like a tiny star.
The whole yard went dead silent.
Even Nash, arms crossed and skeptical earlier, gawked openly.
"Wh-what the heck…?!"
Just then, Sister Lily appeared, carrying a basket of clean linens. She paused at the sight of elements floating in the air — fire, water, wind, earth, light — and children staring slack-jawed.
"My goodness… what on earth is going on here?" she asked, both alarmed and fascinated.
Nova gave her an easy grin. "Just showing the kids a harmless little trick, Sister."
The children erupted in excited cheers.
"That was amazing!!"
"Do more! Do more!!"
"You're so cool, Mister Nova!!"
Even Asta was practically vibrating. "Dude, you're insane! Are you some royal Magic Knight or something?!"
Nova chuckled as he snapped his fingers, and with a soft hum, all the elemental spells dissipated into harmless motes of light.
"Nothing like that," he replied, brushing imaginary dust off his coat. "Just a traveler with a few good tricks."
Sister Lily set her basket down, visibly impressed but gently chiding. "Well, Mister Nova — that was quite the show. But let's not work up the children too much before evening chores."
"Awwww!!" The kids groaned in unison.
Nova laughed. "Later, I promise."
Father Orsi, still watching closely, spoke up at last. "Those were incantation-based spells… but the structure was strange. I've never heard magic commands like that."
Nova gave a shrug and a small, knowing smile. "Different style. Not something you'll find in a normal grimoire."
Asta, of course, was grinning like he'd just met his new favorite person. "You gotta teach me sometime!"
Nova grinned right back. "Maybe I will."
----
In just a few short days, Nova had become a beloved part of life in Hage Village. He wasn't loud or overbearing about it, but the easy way he spoke, laughed with the kids, and pitched in wherever he was needed made him impossible not to like. Even Father Orsi and Sister Lily had welcomed him like a long-lost relative.
What made him truly unforgettable though, was his Wish Magic/Ability.
Unlike most travelers who passed through, Nova didn't hide his ability. In fact, he'd shown it off the very first day, turning a child's innocent wish into a harmless little spectacle. Rekka had wished he could fly, and Nova, with a lazy grin, made it happen — lifting the boy a few feet into the air in a gentle swirl of wind.
Since then, the orphanage had taken to treating him as something between a big brother and a magician-for-hire.
Small, harmless wishes came his way every day.
"I wish the well would stop being dry!"
Nova tapped the old stone rim and whispered his command. By morning, water flowed clean and fresh.
"I wish our ball wasn't all ripped!"
Nova smiled, spoke softly, and in an instant the worn old leather ball was as good as new.
Asta had, of course, immediately bombarded him with ridiculous requests.
"I wish I could shoot lasers from my eyes!"
"I wish I could punch through a mountain!"
To which Nova always laughed and said, "Sorry, kid — you're not ready for that yet."
One day Asta came to Nova and looked hesitant to speak, Nova just smiled at him and gave a book which contained martial arts and sword techniques, saying," You don't have to worry, as long as you work hard and never give up, you can fulfill your dreams."
Well since, Nova helped Asta, he naturally gave Yuno a book too. It contained various basic magic theories, magic control techniques and basic knowledge about the magic knights.
And Nova would demonstrate, patiently guiding Yuno's technique, correcting the way he shaped his mana, teaching him simple tricks for control.
Even Sister Lily had asked once, blushing a little as she joked, "I wish the roof would stop leaking during storms."
Nova granted it with a grin, the old patched roof holding strong through the next downpour.
Everyone in Hage Village knew about Nova's Wish Magic. They didn't understand the full extent of it — Nova made sure to keep the true limits and risks of his ability under wraps — but to them, it was a rare and precious blessing. A kind-hearted traveler with a rare gift who never asked for anything in return.
The kids adored him, following him everywhere.
Father Orsi spoke openly of how fortunate they were to have someone like Nova among them, even if just for a while.
And Nova didn't mind. Because while the warmth was genuine, in his heart he understood what he was really building.
An investment.
The small wishes he granted now, the smiles he earned, the gratitude quietly stockpiling in their hearts — it would all mean something later. When the wheels of fate turned and these children became key figures in a changing world, they would remember the man who once helped them, taught them, and made their small wishes come true.
Exactly as planned.
