Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Unlucky or Lucky
Of course, Noah knew John Constantine. He was also an Englishman!
Born in Liverpool, England, Constantine had the ability to perceive demons and angels since childhood. This so-called gift brought him endless trouble, eventually pushing him to the brink of suicide.
But unfortunately for him, neither Heaven nor Hell wanted to accept him. He lost faith in humanity, demons, and even angels, wandering between the realms of Heaven, Hell, and Earth.
Sounds cool, right?
But Noah had read from the library in the system space that so-called angels, demons, and even gods didn't dare set foot in this world too easily. After all, this world was being watched over by the Ancient One!
Well, Asgard was an exception.
Those beings labeled as angels and demons were already bound by their roles. Any that managed to manifest on Earth were either weak entities or mere fragments of their power.
The Ancient One would never allow them to run amok, not to mention that Asgard kept a watchful eye on Earth from the outside.
So while exorcists existed, they were only necessary to deal with minor disturbances. True threats were handled by those with real power.
What unsettled Noah, however, was—what kind of bizarre, mixed-up world was this?!
He had been prepared for a Marvel universe, but now a DC hero had shown up?
System ! What kind of jumbled mess did you throw me into?! Aren't you worried this world will just collapse under its own contradictions?!
Noah was feeling increasingly uneasy. If John Constantine was here, did that mean he might one day see a trio of two white guys, a Black guy, and a dog running around solving mysteries?
Or worse—what if he looked up and saw a guy in red underwear flying across the sky?
Or maybe a brooding billionaire in tights skulking around in the shadows?
A flood of ridiculous thoughts filled his mind. But then, as if sensing something, Chase nudged him for help, looking helpless.
"Are you looking for trouble, Smoker?" Noah snapped back to reality, his mood foul.
"I don't want trouble, I just have an urgent matter. Let Chase take me there first, then he can drop you two off. I'll even pay your fare. How's that?"
Hearing Noah's British accent, Constantine's expression softened slightly.
"What do you two think?" Chase asked hesitantly.
"Forget it, just drive. I want to see what urgent matter this gentleman has," Ms. Haifin finally spoke. Perhaps hearing his accent made her a little more tolerant.
Noah didn't object. If Marvel already exists, what's the harm in adding DC to the mix?
Besides, he had never heard of places like Gotham City in this world. If they did exist, he was too lazy to care.
"I'm a time traveler. I know the plot. Why should I be afraid of anything? Don't make me laugh!"
Noah smirked to himself.
Even if General Zod and his forces really did exist, the Asgardians wouldn't sit idly by and let them run rampant on Earth.
The Ancient One and Asgard had to be connected. Two of the most powerful protectors of Earth couldn't possibly be strangers. Their relationship was probably closer than people realized.
Then Noah suddenly realized something—
This world doesn't just have the Ancient One and Asgard.
The X-Men were still around. Magneto, Xavier, and even the Phoenix Force existed.
Not to mention Captain Marvel.
"Honestly, unless Thanos himself shows up, anyone else is just asking for a beatdown!"
...That is, if everyone worked together. If they started shifting responsibility and saying 'this isn't our problem', then things could still get messy.
The car ride continued in awkward silence until they arrived at their destination.
By now, the sun had set.
Constantine flicked away his cigarette, lit another, and strode toward the house.
As soon as they arrived, Noah felt a strange energy fluctuation.
It was similar to the three-headed dog he had encountered before—but stronger and far more sinister.
Noah scrutinized the house. It was gloomy, almost oppressive.
"This place is awful," Ms. Haifin muttered under her breath. Then, to Noah's horror—she opened the car door and stepped out.
"What are you doing?!" Noah called out, alarmed.
"I want to see what's going on. Everything about this place feels unsettling."
"If it feels unsettling, why not just stay in the car?"
"No, I feel even more suffocated sitting in the car!"
…Women.
Noah sighed. There was no winning an argument with a woman.
Reluctantly, he got out and followed her.
He had a good guess as to what Constantine was dealing with—probably some minor demon.
Noah could handle those things effortlessly. In fact, compared to Constantine, his methods were far superior.
Sure, Constantine was an exorcist. But exorcists were nothing compared to real Wizards.
At best, the most powerful exorcists were barely on the level of a fresh Hogwarts graduate!
They had all sorts of flashy tricks—soul projections, rituals, and incantations—but when it came to actual magical power, they were seriously lacking.
"Even Gabriel was just a fragment of divine power. If he were the real deal, how could he have been defeated so easily?"
Noah was starting to feel just how huge the gap between him and ordinary people had become.
Especially now that he had become a full-fledged Wizard.
Just as he was contemplating this, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
His eyes flickered toward a shadowy area nearby.
There.
Something far more powerful was lurking in the darkness.
"Noah? What's wrong?" Ms. Haifin asked, noticing his hesitation.
Noah didn't respond immediately. Instead, he quietly reached into his coat and pulled out a wand.
It looked ordinary—but Ms. Haifin felt a strange power emanating from it.
Then, after a long silence, a chilling voice spoke:
"I didn't expect to find a Wizard here. Should I call this unlucky… or lucky?"
From the shadows, a handsome young man stepped forward.
An intricate silver coin spun effortlessly in his fingers.
