Chapter 49: Chapter 49: For a Better Life
Noah didn't know what Ms. Haifin was going to Los Angeles to deal with, and frankly, he was too lazy to ask.
She had her own career and personal commitments, and Noah wasn't interested in prying.
However, he did know one thing—if anyone dared to provoke her, he would take action, even if it meant violating the Ministry of Magic's regulations.
After all, she had taken care of him for so long. It wouldn't be accurate to call her a mother figure, because if Noah hadn't been reincarnated, they would be around the same age.
But as an older sister? That was a different story.
Noah never considered himself an easygoing person, especially now that he had reached the level of a fully trained wizard.
A fully trained wizard compared to ordinary people was like a butcher standing over livestock—it was no contest.
Of course, Noah didn't have that kind of arrogant mindset. Muggle technology was still powerful—just look at Tony Stark. That guy certainly wasn't afraid of wizards.
At least, not in the future.
After getting his passport and other necessary documents, Noah boarded the flight to Los Angeles with Ms. Haifin.
Then, mid-flight, something dawned on him.
He was a registered wizard.
Did that mean he needed to go through the Ministry of Magic's travel procedures?
That realization gave Noah a headache.
Sometimes, wizards seemed free, but the moment they had to integrate with the Muggle world, all that freedom disappeared.
"What are you thinking about, Noah? Are you nervous about flying for the first time?" Ms. Haifin asked, noticing his troubled expression.
"I'm not nervous, just thinking about school-related matters," he replied.
"Nonsense! It's the holidays now. I won't allow you to think about school. You need to relax, understand?"
"Yes, yes! Dear lady, I believe we should get some rest. The flight is twelve hours long, and it's best to sleep early to adjust to the time difference."
"Oh? Did you check the travel information in advance? And you're really not excited about flying?"
Noah simply curled his lips and didn't answer.
What was there to be excited about? If he really wanted to, he could fly from London to Los Angeles on a broomstick!
Of course, that was assuming every Ministry of Magic along the way didn't arrest him for breaking international magical travel laws.
Oh, and assuming Muggle radar systems wouldn't detect him first.
The flight was smooth, and when they landed, they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport.
As Noah stepped off the plane, he had a strange sense of déjà vu, like he had been here before.
He couldn't figure it out at first, but as they drove deeper into the city, it finally clicked.
"Oh my god... I wonder if I'll run into a trio of two white guys, a Black guy, and a dog in this city one day?"
Those three were absolute lunatics, but Noah had to admit—their story was fascinating.
Even if it was a bit too violent.
Eventually, Noah and Ms. Haifin found a decent hotel in the central district. It was a bit far from the most bustling part of Los Angeles, but still convenient.
Of course, the liveliest and most famous part of LA was Hollywood, but staying there was ridiculously expensive.
Even now, the ticket prices for Hollywood attractions were absurd. Ms. Haifin had no intention of wasting money on that.
"Thanks to your suggestion on the plane, we saved a lot of time adjusting to the time difference. I'm going to meet my friend Anna to discuss some business matters. Will you be okay resting here alone?"
"Of course."
"Good. Let's go out for a walk this afternoon. Damn, I really hope this meeting goes smoothly."
"It will," Noah reassured her.
Lying on the hotel bed, he watched Ms. Haifin leave. They had landed in the morning, and after checking in and freshening up, the plan had been to rest.
But Ms. Haifin seemed more concerned about her business matters than resting.
Noah couldn't help her, especially not here.
And speaking of problems... were all American Aurors trained like bloodhounds?
Ever since he landed, he had felt someone watching him. They weren't even trying to hide it.
After thinking it over, Noah figured they had to be Aurors from the American magical government.
The fact that they were being so blatant about it probably meant they had already identified him as a kid.
And maybe the reason they hadn't approached him yet was because he had an adult guardian with him?
Noah wasn't sure, but he didn't feel like wasting time worrying about it.
If they did come knocking, he would have no choice but to go through their standard screening.
It wasn't a secret that the magical world looked down on the Muggle world, and Noah had long since accepted that.
The American magical government probably didn't even recognize his Muggle passport.
Still, after waiting a long time, no American Aurors showed up. Eventually, Noah started dozing off.
So instead, he decided to pass the time by entering his system's library.
Ever since he had reached first-level strength, his system library had changed significantly.
The space inside had expanded, and the number of books stored within it had increased.
These books were incredibly useful. Most importantly, he had found one called Elementary Magic Encyclopedia – First-Order Magic.
It was perfect for him.
Although Noah still didn't dare to use any magic he had learned from the system, not even minor spells, he was cautious.
He didn't want anyone discovering that his magic was different from standard wizardry.
But as his magical power grew, and as his overall strength improved, he knew he would be able to use these spells eventually.
"For now, I'll treat it as knowledge for later," he thought to himself.
The magic he learned was essentially elemental magic.
Noah wasn't entirely sure just how destructive elemental magic could be, but he was confident that it was far more powerful than the Unforgivable Curses.
Even the Wind Blade spell from the First-Order Magic Encyclopedia felt stronger than Diffindo!
If Snape or Dumbledore had access to elemental magic, the results would be terrifying.
"Maybe one day, I can use this knowledge as a bargaining chip," Noah mused.
He wasn't a fan of scheming, but for a better life...
Sometimes, change was necessary.
