Ah—um—ah—ah—!"

The Hydra captain continued screaming, firing red lasers, but his tone started to change, transforming into a horrifying scream.

As he fired the lasers, his eyes began to distort, the lenses melting and oozing out of his eye sockets.

His body trembled uncontrollably, unable to handle the power coursing through him. Blood and tissue gushed from his eyes, staining his face crimson.

"He's clearly out of control," Adrian muttered, his sharp gaze locked on the Hydra captain.

Adrian's eyes shifted to the tubes protruding from the captain's back, resembling the apparatus on Bane's back in another universe. However, this wasn't Titan venom.

"Mutant Growth Hormone," Adrian said, his tone laced with intrigue.

The mutant growth hormone had its origins in the 1960s, developed by Professor Hank McCoy—also known as Beast—during his research into isolating mutant genes. Though initially kept a secret, it later circulated in the black market as a substance granting temporary mutant-like powers, such as laser vision, super strength, and teleportation. However, its side effects included extreme addiction and vulnerability to Sentinel robots.

Adrian speculated that Zemo had modified the serum further, blending it with other dangerous substances to create this unstable "Captain Hydra."

The captain's condition worsened. He fell to his knees, his screams ceasing as he crumbled lifelessly.

Adrian approached, his eyes scanning the experimental laboratory surrounding them. Clint and Wanda trailed close behind, their weapons ready.

"For Hydra—!"

A Hydra soldier tried to rally, but Adrian quickly fired his weapon, cutting him down mid-sentence.

"Is that all you can say?" Adrian remarked dryly, reloading his weapon.

"Cut off one head and another—"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Adrian shot the remaining soldiers before they could finish.

"Apologies. I shouldn't have asked," he said with a smirk, holstering his weapon.

The last Hydra soldier, trembling in fear, dropped his gun and raised his hands in surrender. "I surrender!"

Adrian stepped forward, disarming him and raising an eyebrow. "Good. Now, where's Baron Zemo?"

The soldier, still shaking, stammered, "He's in the underground base… in the central control room."

"Lead the way," Adrian ordered, pushing the soldier forward at gunpoint.

As they moved through the labyrinth of corridors, any resistance they encountered was swiftly eliminated. Eventually, they arrived at the control room's entrance.

The Hydra soldier hesitated, glancing nervously at the sealed door. Adrian stepped back slightly, his voice cold but calm. "I don't kill those who surrender."

"Thank you! I swear, once I'm out of here, I'll turn my life around—"

Before he could finish, an arrow pierced his skull. Blood sprayed as his lifeless body crumpled to the floor.

Clint stood behind, his bow still drawn. "He's Hydra," he said simply, his expression unreadable.

Wanda looked at Clint, her eyes reflecting quiet disapproval.

Adrian stepped over the body without a word, approaching the control room's sealed door.

Just then, a voice called out behind them. "Wait! Are you the Avengers?"

The trio turned to see a bald, middle-aged scientist in a lab coat rushing toward them, clutching a metal case.

Adrian exchanged a glance with Wanda before replying, "You could say that."

The scientist caught his breath, wiping sweat from his brow. "I'm a researcher here. I know Hydra's plans, but I didn't want to help them. I've gathered all the critical data in this case. Please, help me and my team escape!"

"You can't leave," Adrian said firmly, blocking the scientist's path.

"What? Why not?"

Adrian didn't answer directly. Wanda stepped in, her voice gentle but firm. "We still have unfinished business here."

"Right," Clint added, readying his bow. "We're not leaving until Zemo is dealt with."

The scientist seemed to hesitate, his faith in the Avengers shaken. "But…"

Before he could argue further, Clint pressed the door control. The heavy doors creaked open, revealing a dark room beyond.

Clint stepped in cautiously, his bow drawn. The dim light of the corridor revealed a figure seated in the center of the room.

The man sat motionless, his purple mask glinting in the faint light. The metallic ring securing the mask caught the light ominously.

"Get up, Zemo!" Clint bellowed, his voice filled with rage. "Or are you just going to sit there mocking me?"

Baron Zemo remained silent, unmoving.
