Chapter 226: Alex – As Powerful As Ever
Twin beams of crimson energy clashed in midair, colliding with an earth-shaking detonation that rattled the underground plaza to its very core. The impact carved a glowing scar through the chamber, bathing stone pillars and jagged walls in a violent, blood-red light. Dust rained from the ceiling in trembling cascades, while the very air quivered as if the world itself had been struck like a giant drum.
The heat was unbearable. The nearest mutants staggered back, hands shielding their faces as the collision churned up waves of blistering wind that scorched the skin and seared the lungs.
And at the heart of it, locked in a blazing deadlock, stood Alex.
Opposite him was Nocturne—the infamous diamond-skinned warrior, a terror among mutants, one of the dreaded Three Horsemen. His massive frame strained against the torrent of energy, muscles bulging, veins glowing faintly under crystalline skin. He gritted his jagged diamond teeth, face twisted in stubborn defiance.
But he was losing.
The gathered mutants, once arrogant and assured of victory, now stared wide-eyed, their expressions caught between disbelief and raw terror.
Only Charles and Hank remained steady. They exchanged no words, no nervous glances, just a quiet acknowledgment in their eyes. They had seen this before.
Every battle. Every impossible confrontation. Alex always came out on top.
He wasn't just powerful—he was inevitable.
The deadlock cracked. With a sound like glass splintering under tidal pressure, Alex's crimson beams flared, suddenly surging forward with unstoppable force. Nocturne's diamond-hued energy collapsed instantly, swallowed whole like a fragile flame devoured by a raging inferno.
"No…!" Nocturne roared, the sound scraping from his throat like grinding stone. His entire body shook, diamond fists clenched, yet the torrent was merciless.
BOOM!
Alex's energy slammed into his face, blasting him backward with devastating force. His heels gouged trenches in the ground, each step tearing chunks of stone, but he couldn't stop the momentum.
Before he could even breathe—
CRACK!
A thunderclap split the chamber as Alex blurred forward, breaking the sound barrier. He appeared above Nocturne in an instant, boot cutting through the haze of scorched dust. The brutal kick came down like a meteor, smashing into the Horseman's head.
The impact was sickening. Diamond cracked, fissures spreading in jagged spiderwebs across Nocturne's skull. He staggered, his towering form brought low under that single strike.
"STOP!"
A roar tore through the chamber as a golden comet streaked across the battlefield. It blazed with blinding radiance, a miniature sun trailing a wake of molten air as it hurtled toward Alex. The kinetic force alone shattered stone walls and sent mutants flying like ragdolls.
The golden figure closed the distance in a blink, fist cocked back, wrapped in a dazzling corona of explosive energy.
"Daybreak is here!" one of the mutants cried out, voice trembling between awe and desperation.
The second Horseman. Stronger than Nocturne. Their true weapon.
The radiant fist arced down toward Alex's head, the blow promising annihilation.
Alex didn't blink.
He moved with casual disdain, as though swatting away a gnat. His arm lashed out in a simple backhand.
WHAM!
Daybreak was ripped from the air, hurled sideways with bone-shaking velocity. His body tore through three concrete walls, each impact detonating into dust and debris before his form finally vanished in a storm of rubble.
The plaza fell into silence.
Dozens of mutants stood frozen, the fight drained from their bones. Faces that had brimmed with arrogance minutes ago were now pale, eyes wide, mouths slightly agape.
Daybreak, their trump card—the warrior whispered to be unstoppable—had been brushed aside like nothing.
But he wasn't finished.
A low hum rose from the far side of the chamber. Dust parted, golden light blazing once more as Daybreak emerged. His body hovered in the air, bruised but unbroken, his aura flaring like a miniature star. His lips curled into a tight smile, fury restrained but burning.
"Alex Winters…" His voice reverberated, laced with grudging respect. "You are everything they say."
Behind Alex, Charles narrowed his eyes, voice firm, demanding answers. "But who are you people? I've scanned every mutant in New York. You shouldn't exist."
Daybreak's gaze slid toward him, amusement flashing. He chuckled, low and mocking. "You think your machines can see everything? We're not your average anomalies."
But his focus quickly snapped back to Alex, the intensity of his glare sharpening. "You've earned my respect. Release Nocturne, and let's see what you're really—"
CRUNCH.
The words died as Alex's boot pressed down, merciless and final. Nocturne's fractured skull gave way, diamond cracking apart in a grotesque shatter. The shards scattered across the floor, glinting like broken glass under the crimson light.
The plaza fell into an even deeper silence.
Even Daybreak froze midair, the smirk wiped clean from his face. For a heartbeat, there was nothing—no noise, no bravado, just the stark reminder of what Alex truly was.
Alex did not look up. Did not raise his head, or gloat, or explain.
He simply spoke. His voice calm, steady, absolute.
"Talk less."
His eyes ignited again, molten red flaring like twin suns.
"Fight more."
