Marvel: Rise of the Ultimate AI

Chapter 144: We Are… Venom

A monstrous black creature appeared in front of Jessica. It had bulbous white eyes, jagged, deadly fangs, and an overwhelming aura that screamed danger.

"What the hell is this thing?" Jessica cursed internally as she struggled, using both hands to push away the massive head pressing down toward her face, trying to stop it from biting down. "What the hell are you?!"

Her instincts weren't wrong.

The beast moved with terrifying agility, suddenly appearing before her and slamming her body with brute force. Jessica was launched like a cannonball, crashing through a nearby shipping container with a deafening clang.

Lying on the ground, she could feel it—her ribs had definitely cracked. The searing pain made her vision blur.

Then came the monster—black, grotesque, and absolutely revolting. It crouched over her face, its pink tongue dripping slimy saliva onto her cheeks.

Disgusting. Absolutely revolting.

To her surprise, the creature spoke, its voice deep, guttural, and full of nasal resonance:

"We... are... Venom!"

"What the hell?!" Jessica gasped, her chest feeling like it had been smashed by a meteor hammer. Her body flew backward like a kite with its string cut, nearly losing consciousness from the shock.

This black monstrosity, secreting vile mucus and calling itself Venom, had monstrous power. The thugs she'd fought earlier? They were nothing compared to this. They were cannon fodder. Venom was the final boss.

Boom!

She hit the ground hard. Every bone in her body screamed in agony. Her head spun.

Suddenly, something sticky coiled around her waist—it was Venom's arm. It stretched like rubber, pulling her toward him with terrifying strength. It reminded her of Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards, and that made it even creepier.

Jessica struggled, but the next thing she saw was a massive, black fist swinging straight for her face.

She twisted her body just in time. The punch missed and smashed into the ground, sending painful debris into her face.

Gathering every ounce of strength, she crouched, then drove both legs straight into Venom's abdomen.

The pain radiating from her cracked ribs nearly knocked her out again.

Venom, surprisingly nimble despite his bulk, flipped mid-air and landed on top of a nearby container. Then, with an inhuman screech, he lunged straight at her.

Jessica squared herself—timing this kind of aerial attack was crucial.

Her punch landed squarely on his face. The sensation of her fist connecting with his slimy surface made her stomach churn, but she didn't stop. Her long legs slammed into his gut, and when he landed unsteadily, she followed through with a punch filled with all her might.

Boom!

Her fist smashed into his face, knocking his head sideways. His grotesque tongue lolled out of his mouth, dripping with that same sickening slime. She swore she could see shreds of flesh stuck to it.

That was definitely not animal meat.

Venom turned his head slowly, unaffected. His bulbous eyes locked on her with a mocking grin. His tongue traced his fangs, lazily licking off the meat strands.

Jessica had no time to react. His next strike was straight for her face.

She raised her arm instinctively to block it—but the real blow came to her abdomen. Pain exploded through her gut. It was like a tsunami crashing through her insides.

Venom roared, lifting her into the air like a ragdoll.

With a loud splash, Jessica was hurled straight into the Hudson River.

The cold, bone-chilling water numbed her pain. Her mind finally surrendered.

She passed out.

Elsewhere, on a quiet street in New York, Wanda strolled along with Daisy, taking a much-needed break.

Ever since Daisy had overcome her inner fears and learned to control her powers, her playful side had fully emerged.

"Wanda, why did you join S.W.O.R.D. anyway?" Daisy asked, tilting her head.

Wanda smiled softly. "Me? I'm not really sure. Maybe it was fate?"

She paused, recalling the first moment she met Gene.

It had been inside a HYDRA facility. She and her brother, Pietro, had discovered that eerie black armor... and the terrifying truth that came with it.

She wasn't even sure why she'd thrown her lot in with S.W.O.R.D.—maybe it was the unity, maybe the mission. Or... maybe it was that black armor.

Her expression shifted, just a bit.

Why was she thinking about him again?

As the two young women continued their walk through New York's streets, Wanda suddenly stopped.

It was faint—but she sensed it clearly.

Dark magic.

"What is it?" Daisy noticed her change in demeanor.

"Dark magic," Wanda replied calmly.

"Dark… magic?" Daisy blinked, confused.

Wanda's gaze locked onto a district in the distance.

If she remembered the map correctly, that direction pointed toward the docks.

"I think… we need to check it out," Wanda said firmly.
