Chapter 27: Chapter 27 : Rescue of Jotunheim Prison
"Who is Black Adam? Is he really that strong? Does Diana actually need Superman's help?"
After Wonder Woman left, Clark asked the Amazonian warrior who had been training him. In his mind, Wonder Woman Diana was as powerful as Superman, if not more so. Yet, even she needed the help of Superman and others at the Fortress of Solitude to fight an enemy named Black Adam.
"Black Adam? If he's also infected, then yes, he is indeed very strong."
Paradise Island might be isolated, but its inhabitants weren't ignorant of the outside world. For their own protection, they needed to understand it. Whenever Wonder Woman returned to Paradise Island, she brought news from beyond their shores. So, it was no surprise that this Amazonian warrior knew about Black Adam.
"Black Adam possesses powers granted by the wizard Shazam. When he says 'Shazam,' he gains the abilities of the Egyptian gods. These powers are…"
"The endurance of Shu, the god of order, allows Black Adam to survive without breathing or eating, and gives him a body of steel, much like Superman's."
"The speed of Horus, the god of vengeance, enables Black Adam to fly at incredible speeds."
"The power of the sun god Amon is so immense that he can even match Superman. He might be the second most powerful being after Superman."
"The wisdom of Thoth, the god of wisdom, makes Black Adam incredibly intelligent and gives him vast knowledge. Of course, after being infected, he might not be able to use this power."
"The power of Aten, the ancient Egyptian sun god, not only strengthens his body but also allows him to travel through space and control lightning."
"The courage of the Serpent God, though called courage, grants Black Adam the ability to heal himself and others from fatal injuries. It also further strengthens his body and makes him immortal."
After hearing about the powers of these six gods, Clark understood what a formidable enemy Black Adam was. On top of that, such an enemy could spread the nearly unstoppable Anti-Life Equation virus just by harming an opponent.
"Does that mean it's dangerous for Diana to go alone?"
The Amazonian warrior nodded, not denying it. If Diana faced Black Adam alone, even if he was irrational due to infection, it would be extremely difficult for her to escape unharmed. At that moment, the warrior also noticed something was off with Clark.
"Hey, kid, you're not thinking of—"
Before she could finish, the warrior saw a shield flying towards her. Instinctively, she jumped back to avoid it. But when she looked up, Clark had already flown off in the direction Diana had gone. It was clear he intended to help her.
"That rascal!" she cursed inwardly. But the warrior had no intention of stopping him. She knew she couldn't fly and couldn't catch Clark, who was determined to leave. Also, she knew that even if she managed to stop him, with his kind heart, he would surely find another chance to slip away.
"Kid! When did you learn to fly?!"
"Just now! We'll continue training when I get back!" Clark shouted back as he sped up and flew away.
"This kid…" The warrior smiled, but a hint of worry touched her face. "You must come back alive. I don't want to cut off your head myself someday."
Meanwhile, at Jotunheim Prison, survivors watched as a massive number of infected people from Kahndaq swarmed them. They picked up their guns and fired, but these weapons were only effective against ordinary infected individuals. Against powerful magical users like the Black Witch Eve, or even the corrupted Black Adam himself, thermal weapons were useless.
"I have an idea!"
Just then, Lucian's girlfriend, a hero named Shunshan (or possibly another established DC character with teleportation, depending on the original text's intention for the name 'Shunshan'), suddenly had a thought. She jumped onto the windowsill, and with a purple flash, she vanished.
The next moment, she appeared on the back of the rapidly flying Black Adam. Crouching there, Shunshan watched Black Adam crash toward Jotunheim Prison. The instant before he hit, she placed her hand on his back, activated her teleportation power, and disappeared with him.
Soon, she reappeared inside Jotunheim Prison.
"Where did you send him?" a survivor asked.
Shunshan stomped her foot on the ground. "Into the mountains. I used my ability to teleport him directly there." She knew a mountain alone wouldn't hold Black Adam, but their goal was to buy as much time as possible, waiting for Wonder Woman to arrive.
Indeed, just as Shunshan finished speaking, the entire Jotunheim Prison and the mountain supporting it began to tremble. Cracks appeared, and terrifying bursts of thunder spilled out from them. Black Adam was about to escape.
Some of the survivors at Jotunheim Prison also had superpowers and could handle other infected Kahndaq people. But it now seemed that before the infected could bite them, the escaping Black Adam would turn the mountain and the prison into ruins.
The counterattack stopped. As the mountain collapsed, Jotunheim Prison crumbled, and the survivors inside couldn't even stand steadily, let alone fight back. To make matters worse, the Black Witch Eve opened a portal, teleporting countless infected people directly into the castle. The survivors had no time to react and lost nearly half their forces in the ambush.
At the same time, with an explosion of lightning, the mountain that had held Black Adam completely gave way, and Jotunheim Castle collapsed. The survivors inside lost their ability to resist under the torrential downpour of debris.
Suddenly, an afterimage flashed across the sky and arrived at the collapsing castle. It was Wonder Woman, who had come to help. She held up the massive 36,000-ton building with both hands, preventing its complete collapse and allowing the survivors inside to finally fight back against the invading infected. This was not her full strength, but she could not let go, for she was holding up not only the building but also the remaining lives within.
To make matters worse, Black Adam, now free from his trap, crackled with lightning as he appeared before Wonder Woman.
