Marvel: My New Life as Reed Richards

Watcher POV (Narrator)

Reed and his friend are glued to the TV after watching Magneto's proclamation and his fight against the United States of America.The news channel switched immediately back to the main studio after they lost contact with the female reporter. The news anchor looks shaken, scared, and troubled. His voice is shaky and hushed. His hands are trembling under the table. What nobody knows is that the two have been dating for a year.

Mortals — their feelings are a strength and a curse at the same time.

"It is hard to believe…"The news anchor begins. He stays professional even though the love of his life may have been killed. However, you could hear his voice crack for a bit.

"… that one person could defeat the US Army in seconds."

Denial is written all over his face, but also hatred.

"It's unbelievable that mutants are real. That we lived our everyday lives with such monsters without knowing. They could be anywhere among us and kill us."He gathers his thoughts because they are in turmoil. He thinks about his emotional companion, about work, that he is live on TV right now. He feels like the government failed him and everyone else.

…

"I'm sorry, people on the TV, but I had to gather myself." He gives the people a cracked smile.

"I'm a bit overwhelmed, because my girlfriend was just now reporting live from Fort Benning. I just feel lost and left alone." He now looks sad and dejected.

"I would like to know what the government will do against those 'Homo superiors'." He says it with venom in his voice.

"That is unbelievable! Those conspiracy theories are all true!" the pilot cries out of pure shock and worry. He also points his index finger at the TV and exclaims "Mutants are real!"

Benjamin Grimm looks equally shocked and worried about this incident. He froze on the spot, not saying a word, only processing everything that happened.

In contrast to the others, Reed is brainstorming about things to do now, because Magneto started to show himself to the world.

'Well, he just destroyed all my plans for smuggling Captain America into the US. Thank you for that, Magneto. Now I have to create a stealth boy in order to get him to America. I also have to send Ben back home for safety reasons and because I would like to be trained by Captain America and I don't want him to kno...'

Reed Richards' thoughts got cut short by a confused Steve Rogers.

"What are mutants?" he asked. For him, it sounds like a name for a green alien-looking monster, and not a name for people that could bend metals. It also sounds like a racial slur.

"They…"All three talked simultaneously, cutting each other off.

"You guys can explain it to him," suggested Reed Richards and beckoned them to begin explaining.Both of them disagreed with him by shaking both their hands and heads.

"No, no, you should explain it, because you are the genius here."Both objected to Reed's idea and gestured with their hands for Reed to start explaining. Reed put his hands up in the air to show that he agrees.

"So in short, Captain, mutants are people who have powers like metal bending, pyrokinesis, atmokinesis, telepathy, and so on. They got those powers because they have a specific DNA sequence called the X-Gene."

Reed is looking at Steve Rogers in order to gauge if he understands. Seeing that he is nodding, Reed continues, but what he doesn't notice is that Steve finds many parallels to Toro's abilities, he was a comrade of Steve Rogers."The name 'Mutants' was invented by a scientist called Prof. Charles Xavier. He truly doesn't have any naming sense. It's like he wanted for Mutants to be discriminated against and hated, with that kind of name."

"True!"All three of them agreed to Reed's ranting.

"Why doesn't he call them Enhanced Humans or Meta-Humans? 'Humans' should be part of that term, or else he risks enhanced-humans getting alienated because of their superpowers."All three nodded and gave Reed a smile approving of his logic.

'It truly doesn't make sense that they are called mutants' they all thought together.

"I see. Thank you, Reed," says Captain America thoughtfully and nods.

"No problem. For you, always, Captain."They both smiled together.

"Stop smiling like a lovesick couple, you two. Let's eat good old American burgers and French fries, because I'm starving!" joked the pilot, running to the kitchen.

"Ey, come back here!" Reed Richards shouted after him. "I'm not gay!" Running after him. Captain America just smiles and shakes his head, while Benjamin was, what mortals would call, laughing his ass off. The mutant incident may now be overshadowed by banter, laughs, and good old American fast food, but never forgotten.

After Dinner

"Ben, can we talk?" asked Reed nervously, because how should you tell your friend that he needs to go home, since you will do some criminal actions and want him to be safe?

"Yeah sure. What's the long face for, Braniac?" answered Benjamin with a smirk.

"It's hard for me to say, but I want you to go home earlier."That made Benjamin's face lose his smirk. He thinks that he may have done something wrong to upset Reed.

"Why?" he asks, disappointed. You can hear and see the sadness in his voice and face. He really hopes that he didn't do anything wrong.

"To protect you, because I will do some things that aren't going to be in the right sight of the law. And with all the things that happened with Captain America and Magneto…"Reed Richards, with all his genius, cannot predict human emotions. He doesn't know that Benjamin wouldn't care about these things, as long as he doesn't cross the line. That is why Ben is laughing out of relief.

"What?"Reed looks at him confused, as if Benjamin were a crazy person.

"I thought I did something wrong, Braniac *wheeze*."Reed's eyes open as realization hits him.

"NO!" he squealed. "I didn't mean it like that. I wanted you to go home because of your safety and because of your bachelor thesis, since I will stay here longer until the situation in the airports gets better. It will then be easier to smuggle Captain America." Reed explained to him.

"I know what you mean."Benjamin gives him a smile and a thumbs up."I wouldn't mind you smuggling Captain America, but staying longer than planned is a problem," agrees Benjamin.

"How about you think it through for two days and then decide?"Benjamin looks at Reed thoughtfully and nods.

"You're right. Let's go to the others."They both made their way to the living room. They saw Steve Rogers and the pilot talking in the living room.

"Hey guys! Captain America is going to tell a World War II story, don't miss it!"

They spent their evening hearing Captain America's stories, eating snacks, and drinking hot chocolate.
