Chapter 9: Breakout
"I'm here!"
Kian's face showed a crazy smile, and he ran straight toward the shell position without hesitation! His simple plan was to kill the German high command and their heavy firepower units!
The high command had already been taken care of earlier, so that was done. The tank units were nearly wiped out during the daytime attack and were no longer a threat. The only remaining threat was the German heavy artillery unit, which had played a crucial role in the daytime attack, nearly killing himself. He was determined to get his revenge.
Under cover of darkness, Kian lurked forward and quickly arrived at the heavy artillery position. He took out an explosive from his storage space. He placed it in a hidden spot where it was almost impossible to be detected without a flashlight.
After finishing his task, he quickly ran in the opposite direction of the artillery units.
He ran more than 500 meters and found an empty trench where he crouched down. He pulled out a long rifle from his hand Mauser 98k rifle that he had picked up from the German position earlier, with no scope.
But that didn't matter.
Quickly setting up his gun, Kian's eyesight was three times better than an average person's, allowing him to see clearly even in the darkness. He could clearly see the shell position several hundred meters away.
He also spotted the explosive device he had planted.
"Goodbye, scumbags!"
A strange smile crept onto his lips, Kian pulled the trigger, and the bullet flew out of the barrel. Almost at the same time, Kian quickly lay down on the ground, opening his mouth wide and covering his head with both hands!
"Bang!!"
"Boom!!!"
The first thing that entered his ears was a loud explosion, followed by a violent shockwave that shook the ground, and a hurricane quickly swept by. The soil bag in front of him was instantly reduced by half, and the soil covered Kian's body.
Even though he was several hundred meters away and had three times the physical ability of an average person, Kian still found it difficult to withstand the impact. He felt his blood swirling, and his internal organs seemed shocked out of his body. His consciousness almost began to pass out.
Obviously, he had underestimated the power of the heavy shell ammunition explosion. If he were an ordinary person, the shockwave alone would have been enough to kill him ten times over.
Even though his consciousness was still very hazy, Kian knew he had won!
At the command post of the 107th regiment!
"He did it!"
Carter, who had been observing the German positions through a telescope, saw the flames rising behind the German positions and shouted, "The signal is up!"
Without her saying a word, Colonel Alex standing behind her, also saw it. The hurricane created by the explosion was still raging and even blew toward them. He exclaimed in amazement, "What an incredible young man!"
After his exclamation, the Colonel didn't forget his mission. With a serious expression, he ordered the communications soldier standing by his side, "Order the artillery to conduct a carpet bombing of the German positions. Do not hesitate to use all the ammunition. In addition, order all units to launch an assault as soon as the shelling stops. All tanks move forward and provide heavy fire support. Whether we can survive this or not depends on this one attack!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Germans on the opposite side were utterly shocked. First, their commander and other high-ranking officers were killed, and they hadn't even caught the perpetrator yet. Then, a thunderous explosion occurred in their artillery positions. Before they could recover from the explosion, they were shocked to discover that the Americans had launched a full-scale attack against them!
When the transport plane finally arrived carrying the American flag, all the German soldiers knew there was no possibility of winning anymore!
...…
After an unknown amount of time, Kian gradually regained consciousness.
"Hmm"
He suddenly sat up and looked around, realizing that he was in what appeared to be a hospital room. Faint sounds of soldiers training could be heard from outside the window, and Kian guessed that he was probably in a hospital.
Looking around, there was no doubt that it was an American hospital.
This discovery relieved him, and he lay back down with a sense of joy in his eyes, feeling relieved that he had survived.
During a violent explosion, Kian passed out, but now he had woken up and realized he had not been captured. It was clear that they had won.
Feeling something strange on his face, Kian touched it and felt a piece of gauze. There was still a slight sensation of pain.
He remembered now he had nearly been shot in the head on the battlefield, and this injury was from that time. It didn't look like it had healed yet, even though he had three times the physical body of an average person.
Just then, there was a noise at the door, and he quickly closed his eyes and pretended to be unconscious. The door was pushed open, and two sets of footsteps approached.
"Is this him?" asked an old man's voice. "You know, Agent Carter, I'm very busy. He'd better have something special about him. Otherwise, I don't think he's worth me personally making a trip!"
"I believe you've read my report, Colonel!" answered a female voice, which belonged to Agent Carter.
"He is the person I mentioned!"
"Really? Your report didn't say he was still alive. I thought he was dead! He's lucky to have survived that situation."
"It's not just luck, Colonel! Please take a look at this first!"
Then there was the sound of pages flipping. The man known as the colonel should be reading some kind of report. After a while, the sound stopped. Just as Kian was about to listen to what they would say next, he heard the colonel say "Okay, kid, if you're awake, get up for me. Don't pretend to be dead!"
Kian's breathing stammered. Obviously, he didn't expect the other party to see through his facade of sleeping. He thought he wasn't a criminal anyway, so why be afraid.
He opened his eyes.
The first person he saw was Carter, who was smiling at him gratefully. And next to her stood a middle-aged man with a colonel's rank, looking at him with deep and piercing eyes.
Kian guessed who the man was - the highest commander of the Strategic Science Corps, Colonel Phillip. He was holding a folder that they had just been looking at.
"What do you think, Colonel?" Carter nodded at Kian before turning to Phillip.
Phillip looked at Carter and then at Kian before turning and walking away. "We'll discuss this later," he said.
Carter took a glance at Kian and followed Phillip out of the room. He was waiting for her outside.
"If this evidence is true, then he might be the person we've been searching for," Phillip said, holding the folder. "I'll sign the documents to recruit him, but whether it will work or not depends on Dr. Erskine's decision."
"Understood!"
