Chapter 74: Chapter 074: John's Strange Behavior

When Mitchell came out of the room, he looked completely dazed.

Because the photo of the chairman of the Wellden Group that he got from his friend—he recognized it at a glance. It was the same Carl who was downstairs!

This meant everything Carl said was true, and it was Mitchell and his father who were overthinking things.

Realizing this, Mitchell felt embarrassed but also a bit happy.

With a big listed group like the Wellden Group, even the leftovers from their table could make Grandpa Aden's clothing company very successful.

Since Carl really was the boss of the Wellden Group and had such a good relationship with his nephew, he would likely help their company out of respect.

Right now, the world economy wasn't doing well, and things were especially tough for small companies like theirs.

Mitchell had been worried about this lately, but he didn't expect to run into such a lucky break just by coming to dinner at his sister's house.

"Raymond, don't forget to say some good words for us in front of your friend. Half of the company still belongs to your mom," Mitchell quickly reminded him once he realized the situation.

"I know," Raymond replied, just to stop Mitchell from going on and on.

As for Carl, Raymond didn't think he needed to say anything.

Carl was a smart and experienced man. Helping out a friend's family business without spending much wouldn't be a big deal to him.

Raymond was sure that once Carl went back, he'd arrange something to help Grandpa Aden's clothing company.

"Maybe it's time for me to think about making some money too," Raymond suddenly thought.

He didn't feel as insecure as when he first arrived in this world.

Especially now that he had two powerful Silver-ranked sub-personalities, plus the mysterious John Constantine as a hidden ace. Most of the time, he could easily protect himself—or even intimidate others.

If anyone messed with him now, they'd be asking for trouble.

Now that he was safe, maybe it was time to pursue some personal goals too?

"Hmm, what should I do to make money…"

After John & Group left Raymond's house, John looked angry the whole way, like someone owed him money. (TL/N: John here is Thunderbird not Constantine)

They didn't let Clarice drive them. The three of them left together in a car.

"What's wrong, John?" Lorna finally noticed that something was off and asked.

"I'm fine," John replied at first, but then added, "You guys should stay away from Clarice's brother. There's something weird about him and those people."

"Weird? What's weird about them… I think Raymond and Betsy are both really nice," Lorna said, confused.

She had a short talk with Psylocke earlier and actually liked her. Even though Psylocke didn't explain what she meant by some of the things she said, Lorna felt she was kind.

What she didn't know was that Psylocke was actually older than her foster parents, even though she looked under thirty.

And it wasn't just Psylocke—she also had a good impression of Raymond.

Even though Raymond had seemed a bit arrogant when he first appeared, she'd heard Clarice talk about how great her brother was so many times that her opinion of him had been changed.

Also, this time Raymond was quite different from the last time they met. He was much more polite. Aside from being a little cold, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with him.

But to her, being cold wasn't a big deal at all.

That's why she didn't understand why John suddenly said she and Sonya should stay away from Raymond and his group.

Sonya could more or less guess what her boyfriend was thinking, so since there were no outsiders around, she spoke honestly: "Honey, from what I've seen, Clarice's brother and his friends aren't targeting you. Maybe they're just always like that…"

"You think there's nothing wrong with them too?" John interrupted her, sounding annoyed. "So you're saying I'm petty and just talking bad about them behind their backs?"

"You know that's not what I meant," Sonya replied quietly.

"Then what do you mean? Are you saying I'm useless, and I'm not as good as them?" John suddenly shouted. "Yeah, makes sense. They're either elites from the Hellfire Club or top agents in S.H.I.E.L.D. And what am I? Just the leader of some trash organization…"

"John! How can you talk to Sonya like that?" Lorna said angrily.

"Am I wrong? If you two feel like hanging out with them makes you feel more important, then go ahead. You don't need to stay with me and feel miserable. I can't take it anymore!"

"John, you—" Sonya looked at him like he was a stranger. Her eyes were full of disappointment, and tears started forming at the corners.

Seeing her look at him like that, John suddenly snapped out of it and realized he had gone too far. He quickly tried to fix it: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that…"

"Don't say anything. Just let me be quiet for a while," Sonya interrupted him, closing her eyes and turning away.

Seeing that Sonya was really upset, John started to panic.

But because of his pride, he didn't want to apologize in front of Lorna, so he just stayed silent.

Seeing John like this, Lorna couldn't help but compare him to Raymond in her heart.

And that comparison only made John look worse. Whether it was confidence or how they handled things, Raymond was way ahead.

With that thought, Lorna started to doubt if joining the Mutant Underground had really been the right choice…

Meanwhile, after leaving Raymond's house, Juggernaut and the other two headed straight for the airport. All three of them had tickets to fly out of Richmond tonight.

Once they got in the car, Juggernaut immediately turned to Carl and said, "When you get back, help me look into someone. Keep it quiet—use your own people if possible."

"Who?" Carl asked.

"It's the guy Raymond mentioned before. His fellow patient from Clockwork Psychiatric Hospital. I think his name was David Haller?"

"That's the one," Carl nodded, remembering the name. "So you want me to investigate him?"

"That's right."

At that moment, Psylocke suddenly joked, "So what Raymond said might really be true? That David guy is actually your nephew?"

"Seems likely," Juggernaut nodded slightly.

"First we get Erik's secret daughter, now Charles's secret son… Tsk tsk, you men really can't keep it in your pants," Psylocke said with a smirk.

Neither Juggernaut nor Carl argued back.

Because… she wasn't exactly wrong.

After all, male mutants were still men too…
