Chapter 72: Chapter 72 : Hot Springs
---
Autumn is different from other seasons. The bleak autumn wind and the withered, yellow vegetation create a somber atmosphere.
From ancient times to the present, countless poets have used autumn to express their sorrow, blending their emotions with paper and ink.
But autumn is also a feast for the eyes.
The sky was bright this morning. Finn went out for his usual morning run, and the sides of the street were covered with golden leaves.
Vehicles parked along the road were also dusted with fallen leaves, enhancing the autumnal scenery.
However, his early morning run wasn't just for fitness—it was also a test to confirm the effects of last night's amnesia spell.
And it worked.
When Finn encountered passersby during his run, their previous expressions of fear and disgust—due to his close relationship with Wanda—were gone.
Now, they greeted him as they always had, as if nothing had ever changed.
Everything was back on track.
Back home.
After taking a shower, Finn sat down to watch the news. Surprisingly, there was no mention of Mysterio.
Not a single report, not even online. It was as if the whole event had never happened.
"Is this spell altering reality itself… or just people's memories?"
Finn checked every possible source.
There was no trace of the recent events regarding Mysterio. The only thing he found was an old news report about a supervillain named Mysterio attacking the River Thames in London.
Reading this, a chilling thought crossed his mind.
"Is the amnesia spell really just tampering with memories? Or… is it directly distorting reality?"
The evidence suggested the latter.
The spell hadn't just erased Mysterio's recent actions—it had rewritten the world's perception of him.
"No wonder Wong and Strange warned that this magic is unstable. This isn't memory manipulation… it's full-on reality distortion."
Finn repeatedly reviewed the information available about Mysterio. And now, he was completely sure—the so-called amnesia spell was actually a reality-warping technique.
No wonder it was considered a forbidden spell. If left unchecked, it could affect the fabric of the multiverse itself.
"Maybe… I can refine it. Make it even stronger."
That thought from this morning resurfaced.
With his current skill in spellcraft, modifying a forbidden technique wasn't impossible. It would take time, of course.
But the potential was exhilarating.
"Create what?"
A familiar, slightly husky voice suddenly came from behind him.
Turning around, Finn saw Wanda standing there, rubbing her sleepy eyes in a daze.
"She looks refreshed today."
The exhaustion from yesterday was completely gone, replaced by a peaceful radiance.
A faint pinkness colored her delicate features, making her look unreasonably stunning.
"Is this because of last night's massage?" Finn wondered.
"Finn," Wanda muttered, still half-asleep, "are you still obsessing over the Darkhold?"
Finn blinked, startled for a second.
He quickly composed himself. "No, of course not."
Wanda narrowed her eyes.
"Strange told you not to mess with the Darkhold. Just listen to him and drop it."
She stood on tiptoe and patted his head, her clear, red eyes filled with warmth.
Finn could feel the tenderness in her gaze.
It was a stark contrast to yesterday's sorrow—today, she was genuinely happy.
"Mmm."
Finn nodded but then hesitated. "By the way, do you remember Mysterio?"
Wanda frowned. "Finn, are you running a fever or something?"
She placed her hand on his forehead, comparing it to her own. "Not hot… Did you hit your head during training?"
She looked at him with growing confusion. "We took care of that fraud in Germany, remember?"
Finn's heart skipped a beat.
She really had forgotten.
"It's nothing," he replied smoothly. "I was just in a good mood and suddenly thought of him. I'll go make breakfast."
He suppressed the satisfaction bubbling inside him.
The amnesia spell had worked.
Even Wanda—who had directly faced Mysterio—no longer remembered him.
Everything was perfect.
The following days passed in peace.
Finn could finally relax and enjoy a quiet, shamelessly happy life in town with Wanda.
---
"53…?"
Wanda murmured, pausing mid-step as she walked to the bathroom.
A strange feeling crept up her spine.
It was as if she had forgotten something important.
She frowned, trying to recall it, but no matter how hard she racked her brain, nothing surfaced.
"Whatever," she muttered. "If it was something serious, Finn would remember. So it's probably nothing."
Shrugging off the unease, she went on with her morning routine.
---
Breakfast was pleasant.
Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a golden glow across the room.
Wanda sat on the couch, bare feet tucked under her as she flipped through the Book of the Damned.
Her delicate, pale toes curled and uncurled absentmindedly against the soft cushions.
Occasionally, her eyes widened at certain passages, and her toes twitched slightly.
Finn smirked at the sight.
"Witch, the weather's nice today. Want to go to the hot springs?"
He had finished washing the dishes and walked over, gently pinching Wanda's cheek.
"There's a hot spring in Westview?" she asked, glancing up.
"Not exactly in town. There's a manor in the west end," Finn explained. "It's the perfect season for it."
Wanda hesitated. "Just the two of us?"
Finn smirked. "Of course. I wouldn't let anyone else see you like that."
It wasn't just possessiveness—no, it was much worse than that.
How could he allow anyone to see his Wanda in a swimsuit?
Wanda pursed her lips. "I don't know… I feel like you'd try something weird again."
Finn raised an eyebrow. "Weird? What weird thing?"
"You know exactly what I mean!" Wanda huffed, her face flushing slightly.
Still, the idea of going didn't sound too bad…
Her mind drifted.
She unconsciously recalled last night—the firm muscles under her fingers, the defined collarbone, the deep timbre of Finn's voice…
Her heart skipped a beat.
"Damn it… why am I thinking about that?"
"So, going or not?" Finn grinned, seeing her inner conflict.
He pinched her cheek again, this time a bit harder.
"Ow! Don't squeeze so hard!" Wanda pouted. "Fine, I'll go. But no weird stuff!"
Finn chuckled. "Deal."
Wanda nodded.
Then she hesitated.
"Wait… I don't have a swimsuit."
Finn's grin widened. "It's okay. I already bought one for you."
He turned toward the bedroom, completely ignoring Wanda's sudden look of horror.
Her face turned crimson.
"Finn… you better not have prepared anything ridiculous!"
Her mind flashed to certain outfits she had seen in Germany—ones that, thankfully, had been delayed in shipping.
But knowing Finn…
A very bad feeling settled in her gut.
"Should I refuse…?"
She swallowed hard.
Because if he really got that kind of swimsuit…
She wasn't sure if he would be the one who couldn't handle it—or her.
