Marvel: I Started by Containing SCPs

Chapter 278: Chapter 278

["When the Containment Foundation first received reports of mysterious deaths caused by an unknown virus, they initially assumed that the new anomaly was a never-before-seen pathogen. They immediately launched an investigation into the deceased bodies and, as expected, discovered an extremely bizarre virus."]

["This virus was capable of blocking arteries, leading to heart failure. Many victims had died in this manner. However, as researchers studied the virus, they found that existing human virology knowledge could not decode it. No known medication could eliminate the virus."]

["As the research deepened, more questions arose. Where did this virus come from? The deceased came from various backgrounds, with no apparent connections to each other. It was impossible for them to have transmitted the virus among themselves. So, how did they all become infected?"]

["The Foundation deployed a large number of personnel to investigate all the locations these victims had visited before their deaths. They even applied Locard's Exchange Principle to analyze the evidence. However, they were unable to find traces of the virus anywhere outside of the victims' bodies."]

["This baffled many researchers. A virus couldn't possibly appear out of thin air, right? However, the discovery of a videotape led to an unexpected revelation—the virus was somehow linked to it."]

["Investigations showed that all the victims had watched an infamous cursed videotape exactly seven days before their deaths. According to urban legends, anyone who watched this tape would die within seven days."]

["Given that the Containment Foundation deals with countless bizarre incidents, they did not dismiss this urban legend. Instead, they decided to conduct experiments to verify the claims."]

["They brought the videotape into a research facility and assigned a death row inmate to watch it."]

At this point, the screen changed, displaying a high-definition television broadcast.

["Inside a laboratory, a prisoner was instructed to watch the videotape."]

["As the tape played, the television screen showed a full moon with clouds drifting past it. Then, the scene switched to a mirror, where a woman could be seen combing her hair. Strangely, based on the reflection, she should have been visible in front of the mirror—but the space before the mirror was empty."]

["Then, within two seconds, the mirror began shifting eerily across the wall—appearing on the right side one moment and then on the left the next. The woman seemed to notice something and turned her head."]

["Suddenly, the screen displayed a chaotic mix of symbols and text, their meanings unclear. Just looking at them caused a headache. The scene then transitioned to a group of people lying on the ground, writhing in unnatural ways, as if mimicking the movements of insects."]

["Next, the image shifted to a coastal scene where a figure in a white dress stood on a rock. A white cloth draped over their head, and for some reason, their right hand was pointing to the left."]

["The screen then cut to a close-up of a blinking bird, the details of its eye disturbingly clear."]

["After numerous repetitions of the bird blinking, the scene abruptly changed to an old well. The image remained on the well for a while before turning to static. Just as it seemed like the video had ended, the static faded, revealing the same well—but now, a woman with long black hair covering her face and dressed in white was crawling out of it."]

["Then, another burst of static. When it cleared, the woman had crawled further out of the well and was slowly making her way toward the camera."]

["Shhhk—"]

["Each time she moved closer, the screen momentarily filled with static. As soon as the distortion passed, she appeared even nearer to the camera."]

["Finally, the image froze with the woman standing very close to the screen, and the tape ended."]

Strange: "What is the significance of this videotape? How does it relate to the unknown virus and to Sadako?"

Robin: "Aren't we dealing with ghosts? Why is there talk of viruses and technology like videotapes?"

Nick Fury: "Just keep watching. There's definitely more to this than meets the eye."

Nobita: "I-I really don't want to keep watching… I'm scared!"

Doraemon: "Nobita, pull yourself together!"

The screen continued displaying the experiment.

["Hey, what's the deal here? You're telling me that all I have to do is watch this tape, stay here for seven days, and I'll be set free? That's way too easy!"]

["The test subject for this experiment was a death row inmate. The Foundation promised him that if he participated in the experiment, he would be granted his freedom and have all charges against him dropped."]

["At first, the prisoner assumed he would have to endure some complicated, sci-fi movie-style experiment. However, when he found out it was as simple as watching a video, he couldn't help but feel pleased with himself and even started whistling in satisfaction."]

["The researchers paid no attention to his attitude. They simply instructed him to remain in the observation room for seven days to see what would happen."]

["During this period, the researchers and security staff provided full protection for the prisoner. His physical and mental health were closely monitored. Every object he came into contact with was examined. They ensured he remained in perfect condition. Yet, despite all these precautions, something unexplainable occurred."]

The screen flickered.

["The prisoner was seen writhing in agony on the ground, his body convulsing violently. A team of medical personnel surrounded him, desperately attempting to save his life. However, no matter how hard they tried, they were unable to prevent his death."]

["Postmortem analysis confirmed that he had succumbed to the exact same virus that had killed previous victims. His arteries had become blocked, leading to heart failure."]

["But the strange thing was that just fifteen minutes before his death, he had undergone a thorough medical examination. He was in perfect health—no signs of any illness, not even a common cold. So how had he suddenly been infected with this mysterious virus and died?"]

["This mystery baffled the researchers. With no other explanation, they shifted their focus to the rumored cursed videotape."]

["The researchers then proceeded to conduct further experiments, bringing in more death row inmates to watch the tape. To differentiate between cases, they divided them into two groups."]

["One group of five inmates watched the tape together, while the other group took turns watching it individually. The reason for this approach was that, according to urban legends, passing the tape on to another viewer could transfer the curse."]
