Chapter 92: Chapter 92 Cardin's Persistence
The next morning, the sun streamed into Beacon Academy's cafeteria.
It was a busy, noisy place. Students chatted, ate, and laughed.
Team RWBY sat at their usual table, a mountain of pancakes piled high in front of Yang.
"These pancakes are amazing!" Yang declared, syrup dripping from her chin. "Seriously, I could eat these all day!"
Ruby, ever the early riser, was already halfway through her own stack.
She scarfed down the pancakes, her silver eyes bright.
Weiss, however, ate her breakfast with polite precision, a small frown on her face.
Blake was quiet, as usual, engrossed in a book.
"Yang, must you be so loud?" Weiss sighed. "And honestly, you're going to get syrup everywhere."
Yang just grinned. "Lighten up, Weiss! It's breakfast! And besides, we're on a break from classes today. No Grimm fighting, no sap collecting. Just pure, unadulterated relaxation!"
Blake looked up from her book, a faint smile on her lips.
"I wouldn't call it relaxation, exactly. We still have combat training later."
Ruby bounced in her seat. "Oh, combat training! I can't wait! Professor Arthur's lessons have been so cool! Remember how he taught us to move super fast without even using our Semblance?"
Yang nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! My punches feel way stronger now! It's like there's extra 'oomph' behind them!"
She demonstrated with a powerful punch into the air, causing a small gust of wind.
Weiss, despite her earlier complaints, looked thoughtful.
"He certainly has unique methods. My glyphs feel more… solid now. More real."
"And my shadow clones are almost impossible to tell apart from me," Blake added, closing her book. "It's like they have a bit of my own life in them."
Just then, Team JNPR walked by. Jaune looked confident and calm, leading his team.
Pyrrha walked beside him, a proud smile on her face. Nora bounced ahead, full of energy, with Ren calmly following behind.
"Hey, guys!" Ruby called out, waving.
Team JNPR came over to their table.
"Morning, Team RWBY!" Jaune said, his voice steady and clear. "Enjoying your breakfast?"
"We are!" Yang boomed. "Come join us! There are plenty of pancakes!"
Nora's eyes lit up. "Pancakes! My favorite!" She practically leaped to the table, pulling up a chair.
Ren sighed good-naturedly and sat down next to her.
"So, what are your plans for the day?" Pyrrha asked, taking a seat beside Jaune.
"Just enjoying the break," Weiss said. "And then more of Professor Arthur's… unique training."
Jaune chuckled. "His training is definitely something else. I can't believe how much I've improved. Remember how clumsy I was during initiation?"
Ruby giggled. "You were pretty funny, Jaune. But now you're, like, super strong! And your aura is so bright!"
Jaune blushed slightly.
"Thanks, Ruby. It's all thanks to Professor Arthur. He really pushes us to be better."
The conversation flowed easily between the two teams.
They talked about their classes, their training, and even some of the strange things Nora had said in her sleep.
The atmosphere was light and friendly.
As the morning wore on, students slowly left the cafeteria.
Team RWBY and JNPR were among the last to finish. As they gathered their trays, a familiar sneer caught their attention.
Cardin Winchester stood by the exit, glaring at them. His team, CRDL, stood behind him, looking uncomfortable.
Cardin stepped forward, a smirk on his face. "Well, well, if it isn't the mighty Jaune Arc. Still pretending to be a big shot?"
Jaune simply looked at him, his expression unreadable. "Cardin, don't you have something better to do?"
Cardin's smirk widened. "Oh, I have plenty to do. Like making sure people know their place." He gestured towards the mess Team CRDL had made cleaning up the sap.
"Still haven't forgotten that little incident yesterday, have we? Or how you made me look like an idiot."
"You made yourself look like an idiot, Cardin," Pyrrha stated, her voice calm but firm. "By acting childish and endangering others."
Cardin's eyes narrowed. "Stay out of this, Nikos. This is between me and Arc."
Yang stepped forward, her hands glowing faintly.
"Hey, leave them alone, Cardin. You already got what you deserved."
Cardin flinched slightly at the sight of Yang's aura. But he quickly recovered, trying to appear brave. "Oh, what's this? The little blondie needs her friends to fight her battles?"
Jaune sighed, a quiet, almost weary sound. "Cardin, I'm not interested in this. If you have a problem, address it maturely. Otherwise, just leave us alone."
Cardin scoffed. "Maturely? You think you're so smart, don't you? Well, let's see how smart you are without your little magic tricks."
He took a step closer, his fists clenched.
"How about a little sparring match, Arc? Just you and me. No Semblances, no Aura. Just raw skill."
Team RWBY and JNPR exchanged worried glances.
Cardin was physically stronger than Jaune, and without their powers, it would be a very uneven fight.
But Jaune simply looked at Cardin, that same indifferent expression on his face. He didn't seem bothered. "No thanks, Cardin. I'm not interested in proving anything to you."
Cardin scoffed again. "Too scared, huh? I knew it. You're still the same weakling underneath it all."
Suddenly, Jaune took a slow step forward. Cardin instinctively took a step back, a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes.
"Cardin," Jaune said, his voice quiet but clear, "you are consistently trying to pick fights that only you start. You try to bully people. You endanger others with your foolish actions."
He paused, his gaze unwavering. "And frankly, it's boring."
Cardin's face flushed red with anger. "Boring? You think I'm boring?"
"Yes," Jaune replied simply. "You're predictable. You always do the same thing. It's tedious."
This calm dismissal seemed to hit Cardin harder than any angry retort.
.He stood there, speechless for a moment, his anger warring with a strange sense of confusion.
He had expected fear, or at least a challenge. Not boredom.
"Now," Jaune continued, "if you'll excuse us, we have training to attend to. And I suggest you do the same. Perhaps Professor Ozpin can teach you how to be less… boring."
With that, Jaune turned his back on Cardin and walked away, his team following him.
Team RWBY shot Cardin some disdainful looks before joining their friends.
Cardin stood rooted to the spot, fuming. He had been dismissed, again, as if he were nothing.
The casual indifference in Jaune's voice stung more than any insult.
He clenched his fists, his face a mask of frustration.
His teammate, Russel, cautiously approached him.
"Cardin, maybe we should just… let it go?"
Cardin whipped around, his eyes blazing. "Let it go? Never! He's going to pay for this! He's going to pay for everything!"
He stormed out of the cafeteria, his team trailing behind him, their faces a mix of worry and exasperation.
Later that afternoon, in one of Beacon's many training rooms, Professor Arthur observed the students.
The room was large and open, with various training equipment scattered about.
Team RWBY and JNPR were in the middle of a complex drill, their movements a blur of controlled power.
Ruby zipped around, her speed incredible, but now she was also changing direction with pinpoint accuracy, weaving through obstacles that would have tripped her up before.
Weiss created a series of ice glyphs, each one shimmering with a faint inner light, and used them not just for attack, but for swift movement and defense.
Blake's shadow clones moved with such fluidity that it was hard to tell which was the real Blake, and she used them to create misdirection and flanking attacks. .
Yang's punches landed with visible shockwaves, pushing against the training dummies with incredible force.
Team JNPR was equally impressive. Pyrrha's control over magnetism was astounding.
She could manipulate the metal training weapons with subtle gestures, disarming her opponents and redirecting their attacks.
Nora, usually wild and unpredictable, now channeled her raw strength with surprising precision, her hammer striking with controlled power.
Ren moved with a serene grace, his dual pistols firing with silent accuracy, targeting weak points on the dummies.
And then there was Jaune. He stood tall, directing his team, his voice calm and steady.
He no longer hid behind his shield. Instead, he used Crocea Mors with renewed purpose, deflecting blows with ease and launching powerful counter-attacks.
His aura, once so faint, now radiated a quiet, unyielding strength that seemed to envelop his team, providing a subtle layer of protection. He was not just strong; he was intelligent, anticipating moves and coordinating his team with an almost effortless authority.
Arthur watched them, a faint smile on his lips.
They were growing, not just in power, but in understanding. They were learning to control their inner strength, to wield their abilities with precision and purpose.
Glynda walked into the training room, her eyes widening as she saw the students.
She had observed them before, but today, the difference was even more pronounced.
It was as if they had undergone another transformation.
"Professor Arthur," Glynda said, her voice hushed with awe. "They're… they're even stronger than yesterday. What have you done?"
Arthur chuckled. "They're simply understanding themselves better, Glynda. True power isn't about how much force you can exert. It's about how well you understand and control that force. And how well you understand yourself."
He gestured towards Jaune, who was calmly deflecting a barrage of attacks from a training drone.
"Look at Jaune. He's not just using his shield; he's one with his shield. He's found his center."
Glynda nodded slowly, still mesmerized. "It's truly remarkable. I've never seen such rapid progress in students before."
Arthur's smile remained, but his eyes held a hint of something deeper, something far away. "They still have a lot to learn. The world out there is far more complex than they can imagine. They need to be ready for everything."
He turned to Glynda, his voice becoming slightly more serious.
"The threats they face aren't just Grimm, Glynda. There are other dangers, other forces at play. Forces that will test them in ways they can't even begin to comprehend."
Glynda frowned, sensing the gravity in his tone.
"What kind of dangers are you referring to, Professor?"
Arthur simply looked at her, his expression unreadable.
"Just know that these students are more important than you realize. They are the future, and they need to be strong enough to face whatever comes their way. Strong enough so I don't have to worry about them when other dungeon climbers come to the third floor."
He didn't elaborate, leaving Glynda with a sense of unease.
She watched the students, their movements powerful and graceful, and a quiet determination settled within her.
Whatever challenges lay ahead, she knew one thing: these students, under Arthur's guidance, were becoming something truly special.
