Chapter 392: Death not Dead

And now, after "Death" died, it was even less so.

Once again, the scene reverted to how Zane had released the "Divine Realm's Descent."

The space was once more filled with countless glowing celestial bodies.

Zane stood on a faintly glowing planet, feeling a subtle sense of unease.

At that moment, the planet beneath his feet suddenly exploded.

A gray figure shot out from the shattered core and lunged toward Zane at lightning speed.

Whoosh!

Zane transformed into a golden streak of light and dodged to the side.

Then, as he turned to look at the figure, he noticed it was wearing a floating gray robe.

Inside, there appeared to be nothing, like an empty void.

"Did you go through all this trouble just to let me know you're still alive?" Zane asked, curling his lips in mild annoyance.

From beneath the gray robe, a skeleton slowly emerged, transforming into the familiar form of a woman Zane recognized.

The woman, looking somewhat weak and disheveled, gave an awkward smile. Instead of answering Zane's question directly, she playfully chided him, "Shouldn't you ask me why I came back to life?"

"No need. I already know," Zane said coldly.

"When I killed your clone earlier, I noticed something different from the projections I've destroyed in the past," he continued.

"At first, I thought it was unique to the eighth dimension. But now, I've also reached the eighth dimension."

"Thinking about your name, 'Death,' and seeing you resurrect, I understood the reason."

"To be precise, you never truly died. You are the embodiment of death itself."

"So, in essence, when I killed you, I also recreated you, allowing you to be reborn."

"Hehehe... Not bad. You figured it out," the woman giggled.

"As expected, you're unlike the other seeds I've sown," she said, shedding her robe to reveal a flawless, alluring figure that stirred limitless temptation.

"Do you know? So far, you are the most challenging seed to capture."

"The twelve seeds before you were all effortlessly absorbed into my 'Reaper Legion,' serving me in managing the endless domains of death within the Omniverse."

"Anyone drawn to my seed of death is invariably filled with a desire for slaughter."

"Thus, the Twelve Apostles, along with Hela of Asgard and Thanos of the Titan race, all followed the same pattern."

"Through them, I harvested countless souls, while they sought to claim my seed for greater power."

"This seed grants mortals the divine essence to reach godhood in the eyes of men."

"The divine essence resides deep within their souls, and when it turns completely black, they achieve the pinnacle of mortal divinity."

"By then, the mortals hosting my Death Essence have already become killing machines under my complete control."

"So, in most cases, I don't harm them. With more people killing on my behalf, it saves me a lot of effort."

"However, you, Zane Sy, are an exception."

"I want to see if you can break free from mortal constraints and grow to my level."

"Only then can I consume your divine essence and discover the limits of my existence as a being born a god!"

After hearing Death's words, Zane let out a cold sneer in his heart.

He knew very well how he had suddenly gained such immense power back then.

There were several moments where he had almost succumbed to an uncontrollable desire for slaughter, barely able to pull himself back from the brink.

It wasn't until he acquired the Mind Stone and gained the "Clarity of Thought" ability from the Arcane Furnace that he managed to maintain a constantly clear mind, immune to any external influence.

Reflecting on it now, Zane thought perhaps it was precisely because of his ability to maintain mental clarity and his exceptionally strong soul that the Phoenix Force had chosen him as its host.

At that moment, Death, having shed her robe, cast a seductive glance at Zane and let out a mournful sigh.

"It seems seduction doesn't work on you, does it..."

With those words, she flickered and lunged directly at Zane.

Her ghostly movements made her unpredictable, even to Zane.

"If you know you can't kill me, then how do you plan to deal with me?"

Shing!

Zane gazed at the elegant figure leaping toward him, showing no mercy as he drew his black scythe of death, and swung it down in a single, decisive strike.

In an instant, the woman Death had transformed into perished, her form dissipating into a wisp of blue smoke.

A second later, the woman reappeared out of thin air in the same spot.

Without pause, she flashed away to a nearby planet, putting some distance between herself and Zane.

The woman gazed at Zane with amusement as her facial features twisted into a grotesque expression. Her long black hair floated unnaturally, and waves of black energy radiated from her body, adding to her enigmatic aura.

"You know you can't kill me, so why waste your effort?"

"Why not let me devour that pure black walnut in your head instead?"

"Perhaps I might even spare a tiny fragment of your soul, so you could remain and be pampered by me every day..."

Hovering mid-air, Zane ignored her taunts. The so-called walnut was the divine essence rooted deep within his soul.

If someone else destroyed it, his entire soul would cease to exist. No matter how high his dimensional level, he wouldn't be able to resurrect.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom boom boom!!!

At that moment, Zane noticed that the glowing celestial bodies he had summoned with the "Divine Realm's Descent" began to explode one by one, just like when Death first appeared.

From each shattered celestial body emerged a woman identical to Death in appearance.

The sheer number of them, packed densely together, sent a wave of discomfort through Zane, as if triggering a fear of clusters.

He silently cursed to himself. The number of these women matched the number of celestial bodies he had summoned.

Every glowing star he had conjured earlier now corresponded to a seductive woman clad in thin black armor.

"I told you, these souls are me, and I am these souls," Death said.

"When you killed me in the Absolute Zero Domain, I hid these soul fragments within the stars you created."

"I realized your stars shared the same source as soul energy, making them the perfect place to conceal my souls."

With every word Death spoke, Zane noticed the outermost edges of the vast space filled with even more identical women.

He understood that these newly formed women came from the souls of those dying every second across the Omniverse.

Summoned by Death, they arrived here, transforming into replicas of her.

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!!!
