"Damn it!"
Scott cursed under his breath, his dangerous gaze locking onto the target. Blazing beams of energy ripped through the night sky.
But just then, the Spatial Manipulator raised a hand and sliced through the air, creating a spatial gate before him.
In an instant, the scorching beams vanished as they passed through the gate.
A second later, Scott's instincts screamed danger, and he rolled away just in time.
"Boom!"
The scorching beams reappeared through another spatial gate directly behind him, leaving two charred scars on the spot where he had just stood.
Scott's scalp tingled with unease.
This ability countered his powers far too well, especially when combined with those eerie mental attacks.
As for the fact that he had just taunted his opponent moments ago...
What? Never happened.
Wiping the blood trickling from his nose, Scott took a deep breath and began moving rapidly, searching for the optimal position to attack. He cautiously fired a few weaker energy beams to test the waters.
But no matter where he attacked from, the Spatial Manipulator skillfully redirected his beams back toward him through spatial gates.
"Bang!"
Another invisible wave of mental energy slammed into Scott's mind, causing him to stumble, a pained groan escaping his lips.
From a distance, Mike observed the scene, his brows furrowing. He reached for the sniper rifle beside him.
If he could just take out the Spatial Manipulator and the Mental Manipulator, the Hellfire team could regain the upper hand…
But as his hand hovered over the rifle, Mike froze momentarily and withdrew it.
A new figure stepped out of the twisting air.
She had platinum blonde hair, exquisitely beautiful features, and an air of cold nobility. It was the White Queen, Emma Frost.
Walking gracefully through the pure white snow, she approached the battlefield. Snowflakes danced around her like an ice queen stepping into her domain.
Her gaze swept lightly over the Spatial and Mental Manipulators, and a terrifying wave of psychic energy silently surged forth.
The Spatial Manipulator froze in place, like a puppet with its strings cut. Meanwhile, the Mental Manipulator's expression twisted as she tried to resist with her formidable mental power.
But Emma merely let out a cold snort, unleashing an even greater torrent of psychic force.
"Elvin!"
The Mental Manipulator screamed, her body locking up under Emma's psychic control.
Emma's brows furrowed ever so slightly.
This woman was more difficult to deal with than she had anticipated. Her mental strength was formidable, forcing Emma to expend more energy to maintain control.
Scott had asked her to remain hidden to scout for additional enemies in the vicinity and to seize control of the battlefield when the critical moment arrived.
Now, Emma was certain there were no more enemies nearby. She also knew she could dominate the current battlefield.
Emma nodded at Scott and turned her gaze toward the prison transport. Her icy voice echoed in Elvin's mind.
"It's over for you."
Elvin's expression darkened, but his lips curled into a faint smirk. He pressed a black controller in his hand.
The next moment, Emma's psychic energy surged, and Elvin fell completely under her control.
Emma exhaled softly and telepathically informed Scott, "Raven is inside the transport. Let's move quickly."
Scott nodded and headed for the prison transport. Meanwhile, Emma turned her attention to the three individuals she had subdued. With a cold snort, she directed the Spatial and Mental Manipulators to place their hands around each other's necks.
Scott opened the transport.
"Scott, hurry up!" Raven shouted.
Scott hesitated for a moment, then adjusted the power of his beams and blasted open the lock restraining her. Smiling, he said, "Don't worry. We've got this under control."
"Stop wasting time! Move!"
Raven flexed her wrists and, spotting Elvin nearby, prepared to snap his neck.
But before she could act, a spatial gate suddenly appeared between them.
Her expression changed, and without hesitation, she leaped out of the transport, grabbing Scott's hand and pulling him toward Emma. At the same time, she shouted to the others on the battlefield, "Retreat! The real trouble is coming!"
The real trouble?
All the Hellfire members paled. Before they could make any further moves, figures began pouring out of the prison transport.
One. Two…
It was like watching a magic trick.
Scott halted mid-step, his energy beams cutting through the air like twin columns of light, blasting toward the prison transport in his line of sight.
But at that moment, a figure stepped in front of the vehicle, using their own body to block Scott's attack. Meanwhile, another individual inside pulled Elvin out, then kicked the prison transport's door open, revealing the still-active portal that continued to spew enemy figures.
How is this possible?
Emma, who had been controlling the Spatial Manipulator, frowned deeply.
Was there another enemy with the same ability?
Seeing that the number of enemies had already grown to dozens, Emma let out a cold snort, fully unleashing her psychic power. Her overwhelming energy surged toward the newly appeared enemies, swiftly seizing control of their minds.
"Impressive power."
A voice filled with admiration cut through the chaos. From the portal emerged Mister Sinister, his face obscured by a helmet, and he regarded Emma with a look of genuine appreciation.
Emma ignored him, her psychic energy intensifying. Those under her control began to cry out in agony.
"Though I'm not overly attached to them, their deaths would still cost me dearly in terms of effort. So… let's not go that far," Mister Sinister said, his tone calm yet commanding.
With a casual gesture, he released a pulse of energy from his palm, sending everything in its path flying. A massive wave of snow and debris swept toward Emma like an avalanche.
Emma's expression shifted. In the split second before the onslaught hit, and amid the shouts of Scott and Raven, she transformed into her diamond form.
"Boom!"
Emma was sent flying by the impact. Though her diamond form shielded her from harm, the transformation disrupted her psychic control.
Mister Sinister watched her with undisguised fascination. "Striker actually let such a priceless treasure slip through his fingers. Unforgivable."
If Striker weren't already dead, Mister Sinister mused, he wouldn't hesitate to kill him a hundred times over for this blunder.
Emma landed heavily, rolling across the ground before colliding with a streetlamp, which snapped under the impact. Only then did she come to a halt.
She stood quickly, glaring at Mister Sinister from dozens of meters away, her eyes blazing with fury. Dismissing her diamond form, she unleashed a torrent of psychic power toward him.
But to her shock, her abilities had no effect.
She couldn't sense his mind. She couldn't penetrate his defenses.
Mister Sinister casually waved a hand and said, "Go capture the others. Leave this one to me."
The dozens of mutants obeyed without hesitation, rushing toward the other Hellfire members. Meanwhile, Mister Sinister focused his gaze on Emma. As she hesitated, considering whether to assist her comrades, he made a subtle gesture. Invisible energy surged toward her like an unseen hand, lifting her off the ground.
Left with no choice, Emma reverted to her diamond form once again.
"Boom!"
She was slammed into the ground with tremendous force.
The earth beneath her cracked and shattered, but her diamond form left her unharmed. Still, her heart clenched tightly.
In the brief moments that had passed, two of the Hellfire members who had come with them—aside from Ricky—had already been overwhelmed and killed by the flood of enemies.
Mister Sinister smiled elegantly, but to Emma, he looked like a devil incarnate.
"You are far more valuable than your sister."
"Kara?!"
"Yes, I believe that's her name. Compared to you, her abilities were utterly unimpressive."
"Where is she? What did you do to her?"
"She was too weak and held little value as a specimen. I merely kept a sample and allowed her to rest permanently," Mister Sinister replied nonchalantly, stroking his chin as if recalling a trivial memory. "I think… just before her death, she was muttering… Emma. Logan."
Emma's pupils contracted as she let out a cry of anguish, her composure shattering. With a scream of rage, she charged at Mister Sinister like a storm unleashed.
