Chapter 17: Chapter 17

Chapter 17: Waste Collection

The next day, after school, Luke found an excuse to decline Peter Parker's invitation to go home together. He then went alone to a dock area in the southwest of Queens.

This was the western section of Manhattan's Long Island, bordering Brooklyn, the former home of Captain America. There were many large and small garbage dumps near this dock area, filled with all kinds of scrapped cars and household appliances.

Luke planned to collect some scrap metal today and use it to modify his grenades. At least it would be much more powerful than the current homemade ones.

The owner of the garbage dump was a tall, thin, middle-aged white man wearing a baseball cap. When he saw a little kid like Luke wandering around the garbage dump, he came over and tried to drive him away.

"I want to buy scrap metal," Luke said directly, no nonsense.

"Leave... What did you say?" The garbage dump owner suspected he had heard it wrong.

"I have a hundred dollars here."

Luke pulled a crumpled bill from his pocket and handed it over.

He couldn't use the money in the card for the time being. In order to avoid being tracked, he planned to wait for a while and figure out a way to launder the money before using it safely.

The safest way to use it was to pay the system directly. But Luke had already paid enough for now, and it would take some time to digest all the skills he had obtained.

"Okay, take whatever you want. As long as you can carry it, you can take as much as you want."

The junkyard owner took the hundred dollars, flicked his fingers on the bill, sneered, and said.

Pfft, a hundred dollars? The junkyard owner thought, this must be a handicraft assignment required by the school?

He guessed this kid couldn't take away much.

He didn't think a kid like Luke had the strength to carry much.

There were mountains of garbage everywhere, and all kinds of waste and scrapped metal products were piled up to the point of not being able to see the light of day.

The owner of the garbage dump was too lazy to even pay for security guards to look after the dump, because no one would be interested in the junk.

After letting Luke choose by himself and telling him to be careful and not to climb up, the garbage dump owner flicked the freshly earned hundred dollars, hummed a cheerful tune, and decided to have an extra meal tonight.

Luke was happy that no one was watching him, so he began to pick up suitable metal waste.

As for how heavy the load could be, the owner of the garbage dump was wrong. Very wrong.

In addition to the 19 skill books drawn yesterday, don't forget to get other guaranteed rewards. Among them were two bottles of primary strength potions, which had extraordinary effects.

Even though he still looked like a child, after drinking the potion, his physical strength was no less than that of an adult.

Not to mention, he also had storage space.

The original storage space of 30cm×30cm was expanded to a large capacity of 100 cubic meters, 10m×10m, by him spending money.

He was determined to make back the hundred dollars he paid.

Luke never intended to do business at a loss!

The garbage dump owner sat under an awning in the distance, drinking coffee leisurely, basking in the warm Manhattan sunshine, humming pop tunes, and felt that this was truly a day full of hope.

Luke stopped at the foot of a garbage mountain filled with old televisions.

Squatting on the ground, he looked at an old-fashioned cathode ray tube TV that looked intact.

"This will be useful."

He muttered to himself, then reached his hand out, and the TV disappeared out of thin air and was put into the storage space.

He walked around the TV graveyard and found a few old TVs that were still in good condition and collected them. Then he walked toward another garbage mountain not far away.

There were all kinds of integrated circuits piled here.

Luke squatted on the ground and picked and chose. Soon, he found there were quite a few good gadgets here. Many of the things were not completely broken, and with his current knowledge of mechanical repair, he could just repair them a little and reuse them.

But this was not his main purpose. He was here to look for the materials he needed for the next thing he was going to make.

After picking up some circuit boards, diodes, copper wires, and the like, Luke turned to the other side and came to a car cemetery that blocked out the sun.

Here, all kinds of scrapped cars were stacked up layer by layer, forming piles that looked precarious and as if they would collapse at any time.

Here, Luke selected large pieces of intact iron sheets, gears of various types, and was even lucky enough to find a car engine that seemed to have no problems.

This engine alone must cost more than a hundred dollars, right?

The garbage dump owner was still drinking coffee leisurely in the distance. He glanced casually in Luke's direction and couldn't help but sneer when he saw the few small things in Luke's hands.

For such a little kid, it's good enough that he could pick up these few things.

Then he got up and went back into the house to get some water.

Luke took advantage of this opportunity to put a scrapped food truck that he liked next to him into the storage space.

Fix this thing, so we don't have to sneak out of Uncle Peter's RV anymore.

After the garbage dump owner came out again, he took a look and seemed to be stunned for a moment, thinking that something was missing. But after thinking about it carefully, he couldn't figure out what was missing, so he could only shake his head in confusion.

After spending an hour, Luke underestimated the chances of finding good stuff in the garbage dump, and he also underestimated his own greed.

The 10m×10m storage space was actually filled up by him, and not even a screw could be put in.

At his feet, there were some miscellaneous items that he couldn't bear to discard. If someone else saw them, they would think: What a mess of junk.

But in Luke's eyes, these were treasures that could be put to good use after a few repairs, and would be perfect for his next plan.

When Luke finally left, he was dragging behind him a pallet made on-site from scrap materials.

The original shape of the trailer was the trunk door of a scrapped car. He installed three wheels underneath and towed it with a thick rope.

As Luke dragged it, the plank kept making a creaking sound as if it was about to collapse.

There were really too many things on it, and the drag platform could hardly bear their weight.

There were several layers of things stacked on the tray:

The bottom layer was made up of several large metal plates, which alone weighed at least 10 kilograms, some made of iron and some made of aluminum alloy.

On the metal plate was a white air conditioner. Luke took a close look at the intact fan and the integrated circuit inside.

There were two LCD monitors lying on the air conditioner. They looked intact but a little old.

On top of that, there was a small microwave oven.

There were two speakers, one large and one small, placed on the microwave.

Adding all the things together, it must be less than 100 kilograms.

Even if there was a simple trailer underneath, it still took some effort for an adult to drag it.

However, Luke dragged it out easily. The things on the trailer behind him were taller than he was.

When the owner of the garbage dump accidentally saw this scene, his eyes almost popped out of his head.

He seemed unaware that the coffee in his hand had spilled and stared at the scene in amazement.

He couldn't understand how such a small body could drag something so heavy!?

This world is crazy...

After a while, when he came to his senses, Luke had already disappeared.

The garbage dump owner gave a bitter smile.

With so many things, I'm afraid a hundred dollars won't be enough?

"Damn it... Never mind. They're just junk anyway. Just take them."

The garbage dump owner weighed the matter in his mind and felt that the compensation would not be much if it was just these.

He turned his head and looked around again, scratching his head a few times in confusion.

For some reason, he always felt that something big seemed to be missing from the field.

"It's an illusion."
