Chapter 198: MD-Chapter 197 Another Bet!

I am translating a new novel (Multiverse Conquest Starting from Dragon Ball). Read it and support me.

The air suddenly felt heavier, with only the soft music of the bar still playing in the background. Steve was silent for a moment before speaking, "What about me? Why would they kill the Instructor but not me?"

"You're different than the Instructor," Natasha replied. "Your stance isn't clear yet. You haven't explicitly rejected SHIELD, and there's a good chance you'll follow SHIELD's orders. In contrast..."

"I could be unwittingly manipulated into doing things that benefit them!" Steve was smart. Natasha had barely begun, but he already understood where she was going.

They both turned to look at Arthur.

Arthur clapped his hands and praised, "Looks like I don't have to explain anything."

"Can you be sure?" Steve took a sharp breath. "This is unimaginable! If SHIELD really is what you're saying, we're facing the worst possible situation!"

"Steve..." Arthur thought for a moment, then said, "To be honest, the situation is a lot more complicated than you think."

"What do you mean?" Steve's eyes widened. "Is there anything worse than this?"

"There is..." Natasha looked at Arthur and said, "What you mentioned earlier about the universe was clearly just a prelude. Compared to human conflicts, an alien invasion would be far more terrifying."

Arthur wasn't sure how to react.

This woman...

Then Arthur nodded. "Exactly. Even though I was only out there for six months, most of which I spent flying my Spaceships, the truth is, the universe has more than one power-hungry figure. Compared to them, Schmidt is just a minor player. No matter how strong Hydra is, at least they haven't expanded beyond Earth. But in the far reaches of the universe, there are ancient beings on the level of tyrants. Once their gaze turns to Earth, it will be a global catastrophe."

Steve quickly took another drink to steady himself before speaking with a grave look on his face. "This is a little too much excitement for an old man like me. So, not only do we have to face Hydra, but we have to prepare for possible alien invasions? Even seventy years ago, writing that in a novel would have been dismissed as nonsense."

"But this is reality..." Arthur shrugged. "So, guys, don't just focus on Earth. Look beyond, to the universe."

"We can look to the universe," Natasha said, "but our immediate concern is dealing with Hydra. How do we do that? They've infiltrated deep into SHIELD, and rooting them out won't be easy."

"Subtlety is the key, and it's not as difficult as it seems. Our biggest advantage right now is that they don't know we've discovered them. Otherwise, this assassination attempt on my life wouldn't have happened. And they... they're all part of a network. Find one and the rest will be exposed."

Arthur then turned to Steve.

Steve thought for a moment and said, "That's how you dealt with them back then."

Arthur nodded.

After a brief silence, Natasha spoke again, "But there is one problem we must consider - the possibility that we may not be able to eliminate them completely. An organization so deeply embedded in SHIELD must have roots buried deep underground. We can remove the visible parts, but what about the hidden, invisible parts? Once we make our move and reveal ourselves, those parts will retreat even deeper underground, taking root and growing again. And at that time, our advantage will be lost.

"Any official organization will always be at risk of infiltration," Arthur replied calmly.

Steve looked at Arthur and said, "Although it's somewhat inappropriate for me as a soldier to say this, even the military leaders of the past were not free from espionage infiltration. And now, they will be hiding even deeper."

Arthur looked at Natasha and Steve before speaking. "So we have to hide even deeper than they do! I've made a deal with Fury. An agreement that isn't written down, isn't stored on a computer, and doesn't exist on paper anywhere."

"You could just say that it's a verbal agreement," Natasha said with a sarcastic tone.

Arthur took a sip from his drink. "I will form a group. A group that will revolve around me and exist for one purpose only. This group will be deep underground. Fury is aware of this and will turn a blind eye to this group's activity, even helping to deceive and mislead."

"Avengers?" Natasha asked.

Arthur shook his head. "No, the Avengers are on the surface. Fury is already working on the plan, and it's been submitted to the Security Council. Approval is only a matter of time. So the Avengers are essentially a semi-official organization. Our team, however, has no ties to any official institution. No one will know of our existence or what we have done for this world.

Though Thanos' arrival is inevitable, and even though the Power Stone is now in the Disassemble Sapce and the Tesseract has been recovered by SHIELD, that doesn't stop what's coming.

When Thanos arrives, he will undoubtedly wage wars over the Infinity Stones.

Rather than being passive or fighting alone when that time comes, it's better to unite and collaborate with all available forces to prevent that day from arriving.

However, relying on any official background for this effort would make it vulnerable to various questions and scrutiny.

No official organization can tolerate a purely powerful and unregulated group. In reality, any official entity, regardless of its intentions, would seek to gain control once involved.

Therefore, the group Arthur plans to form will have no official background and will operate entirely underground.

"I have plans for the team's members. If needed, I will inform you about the identities of the other members later."

Arthur continued, "Moreover, the issue with Hydra is another bet I have with Fury."

"What does it involve?" Natasha asked with curiosity.

"It concerns… who listens to whom."

Arthur smiled and said, "If we completely eradicate Hydra from SHIELD and clean it up, even though we don't have an official background, our influence will be rooted in the official channels."

"And Fury would be that influence."
