The wind howled through the trees as crows scattered into the night sky, their wings rustling in the air. Peter stood alone on the rooftop of Mount Sinai Hospital, his eyes scanning the horizon. The city's skyline was blocked by the looming structures, and beyond them, the shadowy mountains seemed to whisper secrets he could not understand.

Peter exhaled deeply, letting his thoughts drift. The body Dr. Ryan had mentioned was nowhere to be found, and after checking the morgue records, there was still no sign of it. Had the hospital disposed of the body, or was something more sinister at play?

His gaze was distant, but his mind raced, puzzling over the mystery. Below him, a stray cat rummaged through a trash bin. The cat suddenly paused, lifting its head, confused by a fleeting shadow above it.

"Meow," it muttered, staring up at the figure that passed by, before returning to its scavenging.

Then, with a sound like a soft thud, a figure landed lightly on the rooftop. The figure's silver hair shimmered in the dim light, and as she stood, her piercing eyes glowed, revealing the mystery of the shadow.

The figure—Black Cat—surveyed the scene with the grace of a predator. Her feet barely touched the ground before her hands pushed off, propelling her into the air. She moved effortlessly, swinging from a metal rod across the side of the building before landing on the balcony below. She cut through the glass with a device, making a clean circular gap, and entered the jewelry store with ease.

She quickly disabled the security, accessed the safe, and grinned as she saw the sparkling jewels inside. Just as she was about to leave, she sensed someone was there.

"Do you enjoy scaring people like this, Parker?" she called without surprise.

Peter, leaning against the wall, watched her, an almost amused expression on his face. "Maybe I have a habit of sneaking up on people."

"Clearly," Black Cat said, her eyes glinting. "But I'm no prey, Parker."

Peter raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you?"

"No," she replied, an arrogant smirk curling on her lips. "I'm the hunter. But good hunters always know how to play the part of the prey, so they're often mistaken."

She closed the distance between them. "I've heard about your recent 'achievements.' You fought a monster, nearly destroyed the Brooklyn Bridge, and now everyone's calling you a hero."

Peter's expression turned serious. "Is my 'spider-girlfriend' okay? I heard she was beaten up pretty badly by the green monster."

Black Cat chuckled darkly. "She's fine, thank you for asking." Then she glanced at him teasingly. "Are you really going to stop me from taking these jewels?"

Peter hesitated, then shrugged. "No, I'm not really interested in playing the hero. But you should know that you won't get away with it so easily."

Black Cat didn't seem phased. "I know. The thing is, there's a tracker on these," she said, tapping the jewels in her pocket. "I just wanted to see if I could pull it off without your help."

Peter's gaze sharpened. "Do you know what happens to a curious cat?"

Her grin only widened. "Yes, I do. But I'm confident I know how to win by surprise."

In a sudden motion, Black Cat twisted Peter's arm behind him, using his own momentum against him, flipping him to the ground. His back hit the hard surface of the roof with a soft thud, but he wasn't injured. He hadn't used his full strength.

Black Cat, now seated casually on the ground, peered up at Peter with a curious expression. "Did you really come here to catch me?"

Peter glanced at her, clearly unfazed. "I actually came here to talk about something else."

At the mention of a new topic, Black Cat tilted her head. "Something else? Well, we can talk. What is it?"

Peter was quick to move on, not interested in her teasing. "Have you heard anything about the strange monsters appearing in Bear Mountain recently?"

Black Cat raised an eyebrow. "Is that what's bothering you, Parker? Monsters?"

"Do you know anything about it?"

"I've heard the rumors," she said nonchalantly. "But most people dismiss them as urban legends—just stories to keep themselves entertained. Kind of like how people think the 'black cat' is just a myth."

Peter absorbed her words in silence as Black Cat continued, her legs dangling off the side of the rooftop.

"I've heard about people disappearing in New York lately," she added, looking at him with an odd glint in her eyes. "I'm sure the cops are aware of it, but they're probably too distracted by you and your spider girlfriend to do anything."

Peter's mind raced as he processed her words. "Do you know who these people are?"

She shrugged. "No, I'm not a fortune-teller. I'm just telling you what I've heard."

"Anything else?" Peter pressed.

She leaned back, thoughtful for a moment before speaking. "Some things that were hidden in the dark are starting to move. Things that no one really understands."

Peter frowned, intrigued by her words. "What kind of things?"

Black Cat smiled slightly, clearly enjoying the air of mystery she created. "Werewolves, vampires, goblins—who knows? It's all just speculation. But I can feel something lurking in the shadows. I can even feel their eyes on me."

Peter didn't respond, his expression serious as he pondered her words. Despite the wild nature of her claims, he trusted her instincts. After all, she had a sharp sense of danger, honed by years of experience as a thief.

Black Cat stood, stretching her limbs before giving Peter a mischievous grin. "Alright, time's up. I've got to go. Wouldn't want the owner of the jewelry store sending someone after me."

Before she left, she handed Peter a card, a phone number written on it in pink ink. "If you want to see me again, just call. Or if you want to talk to Spider-Man, you can leave a message with the Daily Bugle. When you read it, we can set up a date."

Peter raised an eyebrow, looking at her with suspicion. "You've always been this crazy?"

Black Cat smirked. "Not always. Just when I'm feeling wild."

She took a step back, her eyes gleaming. "One day, I'll get you to take off that mask willingly, Parker."

With a sudden movement, she leapt off the roof, disappearing into the night with the swiftness of a shadow.

Peter stood still for a moment, the card in his hand, his mind racing with the new information he'd received. The night sky above him had darkened even further, heavy clouds looming ominously over the city.

The Next Day at Midtown High School

As Peter entered the school, he could hear whispers in the hallway. The Brooklyn Bridge incident was all anyone seemed to talk about. Even Norman Osborne had been dragged into the conversation, with many speculating that his death had something to do with Spider-Man and Spider-Woman.

"Looks like you missed the drama, Gwen," Glory said as she walked past her friend.

"Sorry," Gwen replied, adjusting her trendy sweatshirt. "I've been busy with band practice."

"Maybe you've been putting too much pressure on yourself," Betty chimed in, her voice light and teasing. "Maybe you need a corn dog."

Gwen shook her head with a small laugh. "I don't think corn dogs are the answer right now."

Glory gave Betty an amused look as the two watched Gwen run off toward Peter. "Gwen's in love," Glory remarked with a smirk.
